The interim government of Bangladesh has extended the deadline for submitting income tax returns for individual taxpayers for the second time for the 2025–26 tax year. According to an order issued by the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the return submission deadline has been extended from December 31, 2025 to January 31, 2026. It says the decision was taken in public interest under the powers conferred by Section 334 of the Income Tax Act, 2023, with prior approval from the government. The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a warning to foreign nationals residing and working in Bangladesh without proper documentation, setting a deadline of January 31, 2025, to legalise their status. The ministry said that legal action will be initiated against both undocumented foreign nationals and the institutions employing or harbouring them if they fail to comply by the deadline. According to the statement, a significant number of foreign nationals are currently living and working in Bangladesh without required legal permits.
