Fire at Dhaka’s Mohammadpur Krishi Market under control; smoke still billowing
The massive fire, which broke out at Dhaka’s Mohammadpur Krishi Market early this morning, is now under control.
The fire broke out at the market around 3:43 am and spread soon, said Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of Fire service and Civil Defence Headquarters (Media Cell).

Seventeen firefighting units are working to fully douse the blaze. It was brought under control around 9:25 am.
Smoke is still billowing from the site, making it difficult for the firemen to work.

Mother, son among 3 burned to death in Ctg fire
Three people including a woman and her minor son were burned to death and another was critically injured in a fire at a house in Syedpara area of Chattogram port city on Sunday (May 28, 2023).
The deceased are Nur Nahar Begum, 30, her one-year-old son Maruf, and neighbour Md Imam Uddin, 23. Details about them could not be known immediately.
They succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) at noon, Nurul Alam Ashiq, assistant sub inspector at the hospital police outpost, said.

Condition of burned three-year-old Firiya, daughter of Nur Nahar, was stated to be critical, he said.
Ferdous Jahan, officer-in-charge of Bayezid Bostami police station, said the fire originated from a mosquito coil at the shanty of one Tota Miah and it engulfed two other adjacent shanties within a few minutes around 4:30am.
On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued four people and sent them to the hospital, he said.

Chittro Ranjan, chief leader of Agrabad Fire Station, said on information two firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control later.

Car fire at Chandrima Udyan put out
A fire that started in a car Thursday night in front of the capital's Chandrima Udyan was brought under control.
The blaze was reported at 8:30pm. Two firefighting units responded to the fire and managed to tame the flames after one hour.
"A spark from the car's engine started the fire as the vehicle was heading towards Gulshan. Fortunately, no one was hurt," Ershad Hossain, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters, said.

Fire breaks out at Nilkhet book market
A fire broke out at the book market in Nilkhet area of the city.
The fire started at 7:43 pm at Lovely Hotel on the second floor of the market.
Ten firefighting units are trying to bring the blaze under control, said Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director (media cell) of the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters.
The fire is spreading to the other shops on the ground floor of the market, he said.
However, the origin of the fire could not be known yet, he said.

Father, son die after inhaling toxic gas in Jashore
A man and his son died after inhaling toxic gas inside a septic tank at Singhajhuli village in Chaugachha upazila of Jashore district on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Madhu Das, 53 and his son Sagar Das, 26 of South Kayarpara village in the upazila.

Saiful Islam Sabuj, officer-in-charge of Chaugachha Police Station, said at first Madhu entered the septic tank at the house of one Hadiuzzaman in the morning.
As Madhu was not responding for a long time, the house owner called his son Sagar.
Later, Sagar got down into the septic tank but did not come out.

On information, local firefighting units recovered the bodies of Madhu and Sagar from the septic tank.
An unnatural death case was filed in this connection.
