Inflation increases slightly in March as non-food prices rise: BBS
Bangladesh’s general point-to-point inflation rate rose slightly to 9.35 percent in March 2025, up from 9.32 percent in February, according to the latest data released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
The slight increase was mainly attributed to a rise in non-food inflation, while food inflation showed a decline.
In March, food inflation fell to 8.93 percent from 9.24 percent in February, while non-food inflation edged up to 9.70 percent from 9.38 percent the previous month.
The data also revealed differing trends between rural and urban areas.
In rural regions, point-to-point inflation dropped to 9.41 percent in March from 9.51 percent in February. Rural food inflation declined to 8.81 percent from 9.15 percent, though non-food inflation rose slightly to 9.97 percent from 9.85 percent.

Urban areas experienced an uptick in overall inflation, rising to 9.66 percent in March from 9.34 percent in February.
Urban food inflation declined to 9.18 percent from 9.47 percent, but non-food inflation climbed to 9.95 percent from 9.27 percent.
The 12-month moving average inflation rate from April 2024 to March 2025 stood at 10.26 percent, up from 9.69 percent during the same period a year earlier.
The wage rate index in March was recorded at 8.15 percent, compared to 8.12 percent in February.

Inflation slightly down in January as food prices decrease on back of increased supplies
The general point-to-point inflation rate in Bangladesh slid down to single digit again, thanks to the winter season food supply.
It slightly eased in January to 9.94 percent, down from 10.89 percent in December 2024.
According to the latest data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the decline was mainly driven by a fall in food inflation.
In January 2025, the point-to-point food inflation declined to 10.72 percent, down from 12.92 percent in December, 2024 the BBS data showed.
Meanwhile, the non-food inflation rate showed a slight increase reaching 9.32 percent in January, up from 9.26 percent in December, 2024.

The point-to-point inflation rate both in the urban and rural areas also declined last month.
In the rural areas, it was 10.18 percent in January which was 11.09 percent in December, 2024.
The food inflation in the rural areas was 10.61 percent in January, down from 12.63 percent in December, 2024 while the non-food inflation rate increased to 9.77 percent in January, up from 9.65 percent in December, 2024.
On the other hand, the point-to-point inflation rate in the urban areas in January, 2025 was 9.89 percent which was 10.84 percent in December, 2024.
Inflation eases in Bangladesh in December
The food inflation rate in the urban areas in January, 2025 was 10.95 percent which was 13.56 percent in December, 2024 while the non-food inflation rate in January, 2025 was 9.25 percent which was 9.17 percent in December, 2024.
The wage rate index in January, 2025 was 8.16 percent which was 8.14 percent in December, 2024.
