Sheikh Mujib’s mural, AL office vandalised in Chuadanga
A group of students vandalised the murals of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib in Chuadanga on Wednesday night.
They also demolished the district Awami League office and an installation featuring Sheikh Mujib’s portrait during the protest.
The incident took place around 11pm when students gathered in front of Chuadanga Government College and marched towards the deputy commissioner’s office premises. Armed with hammers, axes, and sticks, they smashed the portraits of Bangabandhu and Fazilatunnesa before using an excavator to demolish the installation.
Subsequently, the protesters moved to the district Awami League office at the municipality intersection, where they brought down another portrait of Sheikh Mujib. Entering the office building, they vandalised pictures of Sheikh Hasina and other party leaders before using an excavator to destroy the front portion of the first floor.

The demonstrators then advanced towards the Sadar Upazila Parishad and Zilla Parishad square, where they also damaged a mural of Sheikh Mujib.
Amid the protest, slogans such as “Mujibabad Murdabad,” “Inqilab Zindabad,” and “Mujibabad-er-Kobor-de” echoed through the streets.
The agitation was triggered by resentment over former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s announcement to virtually address a programme organised by the banned student wing of AL.
