Nahid calls for consensus to end ‘Mujibbadi’ politics in Bangladesh
National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam on Wednesday urged political parties to reach a political consensus so that there would be no room for “Mujibbadi” politics in the election and politics of future Bangladesh.
“On August 5, 2024, the people of Bangladesh defeated the force and actually ousted Mujibbad and the fascist Awami League. So, there should be no place for Mujibbadi politics in the future politics and Bangladesh elections,” he said.
Since a trial process is underway in this regard, even this question (return of Awami League to Bangladesh politics) should not come before the trial, he said.
Nahid made the call while addressing an Iftar Party at Dhaka Ladies Club here, which was hosted by BNP in honour of the leaders of different political parties.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and leaders of different parties spoke at the event.
Elections to be useless without reforms, Nahid tells dialogue
Talking about an inclusive election, the NCP chief said he thinks there are political parties to make it inclusive by representing the people of Bangladesh. “We believe that we bear the spirit of the struggle and the mass uprising that took place against Mujibbad (Mujibism),” he said.
Nahid hoped that a political unity would be there in the current political situation.
Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher said he on behalf of his party requested all to forge a national unity on four points -- the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh, a sustainable democracy, a fair election and a corruption-free Bangladesh.
“I think national unity will still be the most powerful tool in building the future of Bangladesh to create a beautiful and prosperous Bangladesh,” he said.

Nahid Islam hints at quitting interim govt to join new party; final decision by week's end
Adviser Nahid Islam has hinted that students who took part in the July Uprising are on the verge of floating a new political party, adding that a final decision on this matter will likely be announced by the end of this week.
He made the statement while responding to reporters' questions after the 11th and final session of the Deputy Commissioners' Conference on Monday (February 17) at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka.
Nahid Islam said, "I have expressed my position on this matter in various media outlets. However, I believe the way the information is coming out in different newspapers and media is not appropriate. Such information should not be spread based on assumptions before any formal decision is made."
Nahid hints at leaving govt role to join new political party
He added, "Those outside, who are against discrimination... The Nagarik Committee had spoken about initiating a political party a while ago, before February. I have said that there is a possibility I might join that party. If that happens, I will formally resign from the government and join it. I haven't made a final decision on that yet, but there is a possibility. Perhaps by the end of this week, I will be able to announce a final decision."
There are various unconfirmed reports that Nahid Islam will be the convener of the new political party formed by the students who participated in the July Uprising.
