Sadeeq Agro chairman sent to jail in money laundering case
A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent chairman of Sadeeq Agro Imran Hossain to jail in a money laundering case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam passed the order following a petition filed by CID inspector and also investigating officer of the case Sayedur Rahman.
Masud Ahmed Talukdar, a counsel to the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and also the president of Dhaka Bar Association, filed a petition seeking bail for his client.
Members of CID arrested Imran Hossain from Dhaka on Monday.
He was produced before the court around 1:23 pm on Tuesday.
Zunaid Hossain, sub-inspector of CID ,filed a case against three people including Imran with Mohammadpur Police Station.
According to the case statement, Imran and Touhidul Alam Jenith had laundered nearly Tk 86 lakh abroad through fraudulence in the name of importing Brahman cows, violating the government rules.
They were also found involved in bringing cows of ‘bhutti’ variety from Thailand, Myanmar, Bhutan and Nepal through Teknaf and Ukhia bordering areas of Cox’s Bazar.
They were found to have earned Tk 121,32,15,144 illegally and transferred and converted through various bank accounts in the name of the accused persons and their interested organisations.

Dhaka Customs House seized 15 Brahma cows and kept in the central cattle breeding and dairy farm in Savar, which were supposed to be slaughtered and sold at a fair price as per government instructions.
Besides, they forcibly occupied the Ramchandrapur government canal in Beribandh area under Mohammadpur police station.

Sadeeq Agro chairman arrested in money laundering case
Members of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday arrested chairman of Sadeeq Agro Imran Hossain in connection with a Tk 133 crore money laundering case.
Jashim Uddin Khan, (SS) of CID said a team of police arrested Imran at noon from the capital.
On July 1, last year, the the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) found seven banned Brahman calves and five cows in Sadeeq Agro’s farm located at Savar Vakurta Union Vanga Bridge area.
A nine-member ACC team, led by Assistant Director Abul Kalam Azad, conducted the drive at the farm and found seven banned Brahman calves and five cows, about 250 other cows, 12 camels and two horses.
ACC Assistant Director Abul Kalam Azad said customs officials had seized banned Brahman cows in 2021 from Dhaka airport imported by Sadeeq Agro. Then those cows were sent to the state-owned Central Cattle Breeding and Dairy Farm in Savar. In last Eid ul Fitr, these cows were slaughtered and the meat was sold in auction, he added.
ACC finds banned Brahman cows in Sadeeq Agro farm
ACC source said the Brahman cattle remained banned in Bangladesh since 2016. But in 2021 Sadeeq Agro imported 18 Brahman cows from the USA through Tarkish Airlines. Of them, one cow had died on the air. That time Sadeeq Agro owner Imran Hossain had failed to provide documents over the import.
Later, Sadeeq Agro submitted three fake documents on the Brahman cow import. These were a no objection certificate (NOC) over Cattle import, a letter from Department of Livestock Services (DLS) quarantine unit and a Permit letter on import cattle from the USA.
