Woman’s hanging body found in Chattogram
A 28-year-old woman was found hanging at her residence at Rashidarpara Colony in Lohagara upazila of Chattogram district on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Rina Akter, wife of Sirajul Islam of Sathia upazila in Pabna district.
Atiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Lohagara Police Station, said Sirajul along with his wife and two children used to live at a rented house at the colony.

Sirajul found his wife hanging from the ceiling of the house in the morning and informed police.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to local hospital morgue for autopsy.
“Police suspected that Rina might have killed herself by hanging from the ceiling of the house as no injury marks was found at her body,” said the OC.

Housewife 'commits suicide' in Kamrangirchar
A housewife apparently committed suicide following an internal family feud by drug overdose in Kamrangirchar of the capital.
The deceased was identified as Moni Akhter, 27, wife of Al Amin of the area.

Md Bacchu Mia, In-Charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, said that family members took her to DMCH but doctors pronounced her dead.
The body was sent to the DMCH morgue for autopsy, he added.

In-laws held over death of woman in Sirajganj
Police detained parents-in-laws in connection with murder of a housewife in Tarash upazila in Sirajganj Saturday allegedly by her husband.
The deceased was Nasima Khatun, 22, from Chak Jhurjhuri village.
According to neighbours, Nasima before her death alleged her husband Sumon and three of his associates tried to kill her.
Nasima and Sumon were married seven years ago and they have two children. Due to Nasima’s feud with her in-laws Sumon took her to Dhaka few days ago but they returned home on Friday evening.
Around 3 am Saturday, neighbor Somej Ali and others spotted Sumon and some people trying to strangle Nasima beside a pond.
Sumon and his associates fled the spot immediately seeing them. Later neighbours rescued Nasima and took to her husband’s house but no one opened the gate. At that time Nasima breathed her last.

Later, locals locked Sumon’s father Sarwar Hossain,55, and mother Firoza Begum,50, in their house and informed police, said Officer-in-Charge of Tarash police station.
The body has been sent for an autopsy and Sumon’s parents have been taken into police custody for questioning, said OC Shahidul Islam.
A FIR was lodged at Tarash police station and efforts are on to arrest the absconding accused, he said.

Housewife stabbed dead in Ctg
A 54-year-old woman has been stabbed to death allegedly by her husband at Chandnaish upazila in Chattogram.
The deceased was identified as Rezia Begum, wife of rickshaw puller Abdus Sattar of the upazila.

Locals said the couple had an altercation at their home in West Elahabad area on Saturday evening. At one stage, Abdus Sattar stabbed his wife with a sharp weapon and fled the scene.
Later, Rezia was admitted to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where she succumbed to her injuries early Sunday, said Md Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandnaish police station.

Efforts are on to arrest the husband, he added.
Besides, family members of the deceased are being interrogated, the OC added.

Nor’wester kills 5 in four districts
Five people were killed in separate incidents as a nor’wester swept over different parts of the country on Wednesday.
The deaths were reported from Barishal, Chattogram, Bogura and Manikganj districts.

In Barishal, a woman and her father-in-law were killed when a wall of their house collapsed on them during strom in Mehendiganj upazila in the afternoon, said Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mehendiganj police station.
The deceased were identified as Rustam Ali Hawladar, 75, and Joynab Bibi, 35, of Gaguria village of the upazila.
Over fifteen houses in Gaguria village were destroyed in the storm.
In Chattogram, a 40-year-old woman was killed in Fatikchhari upazila when a tree collapsed on her during the nor’wester in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Rina Akter, wife of Shah Alam of the upazila.
Mohammad Didarul Alam, chairman of Kanchannagar union of the upazila, said a tree collapsed on Rina when she went out of home to bring her cattle during the storm around 9 am, leaving her injured.
Later, she was taken to Fatikchhari Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Besides, a vast track of standing crops was damaged while electric poles were uprooted during the nor’wester.
In Bogura, a 55-year-old man was killed when a branch of a tree fell on him during storm at Bhatgram in Nandigram upazila of the district around 4 am.
The deceased was identified as Rezaul Karim Raju, son of Ishar Uddin.
In Manikganj, a housewife was killed as a thunderbolt struck her while she was working in a field during nor’wester at Khalsi union in Doulatpur upazila , said Doulatpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Imrul Hasan.
The deceased was identified as Firoza Begum, of Rouha village of the upazila.

Housewife killed ‘for not paying extortion money’ in Barishal
A housewife was killed allegedly for refusing to pay extortion money in Barishal city on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Afia Khatun, 45, wife of former army member Gias Uddin and a resident of Khasipur Fishery Road area of Barishal city.
Deceased’s husband Gias Uddin said local terrorist Md. Monu had been demanding extortion from him for building a new house in the area.

As he did not pay the extortion money, Monu beat up Gias at first and later hit Afia Khatun with a brick, he said.
Seriously injured Afia was rushed to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Barishal Airport Police Station officer-in-charge Kamolesh Halder said on information, a police team has been sent to the spot.

Bagerhat gang-rape: 35-yr-old history-sheeter held, second arrest in 2 days
A 35-year-old man has been apprehended in connection with the recent gang-rape of a housewife in Bagerhat, the second arrest in the case.
The arrestee has been identified as Enamul Hawladar, son of Mansur Ali, a resident of Morelganj upazila. A history-sheeter, Enamul was arrested on Friday, police said on Saturday.
"On Thursday, Rab-6 nabbed the prime accused in the case -- Riaz Shikdar, 38, son of Abdul Majid Shikdar -- from the Bagmara area of Kachua upazila," said Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Morelganj Police Station.
"Efforts are on to arrest the other accused in the case," he added.

Al-Asad Md Mahfuzul Islam, company commander of Rab-6, said, "We started a shadow investigation after a rape case was filed at the Morrelganj police station on Wednesday against Riaz and 10 others."
Meanwhile, Bagerhat chief judicial magistrate recorded the statement of the woman in this case, said OC Iqbal Bahar.

In late hours of Tuesday, the 10 accused -- all burglars -- broke into the family's house and raped the woman before decamping with cash and gold jewellery.

Housewife ‘gang-raped’ in Laxmipur
A housewife was allegedly raped by five people at her house in Sadar upazila of Laximpur district early Sunday.
Police said five thieves- Sumon, Nazim, Hossain, Yusuf and Harun- entered the rape survivor’s house at Charmotua village in Teoyariganj union in the early hours and tied up all members of the family.

The family members alleged that the thieves raped the housewife and looted the gold ornaments and cash money.
Later, the rape survivor was admitted to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital in the morning.
Md Anwar Hossain, resident medical officer of the hospital, said her medical examinations and treatment are going on.
Police launched a drive to arrest the five rapists, said the Superintendent of Police AHM Kamruzzaman.

Housewife killed in Kurigram, husband on the run
A housewife was hacked to death allegedly by her husband at her father’s house in Paikerchhara village in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram early Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Shahida Begum, 40, daughter of Shahjahan Ali and wife of Abu Bakar Siddiqui,44, of the same village.
According to Shahida’s family, Shahida came to her father’s house a few days back with her youngest daughter following a prolonged feud with her husband.

On Monday night, Abu Bakar, a wood trader, also came to meet Shahida, a mother of three, said Mahir Uddin, Shahida’s uncle.
At the dead of night, he said, they heard Shahida’s screams and they found her dead on her bed when they reached there.
Shahida’s daughter and mother also suffered injuries during the incident, said Mahir Uddin.
Paikerchara union member (ward-1) Abu Md Bajlur Rahman said the injured were taken to a local hospital.

Shahida’s body, bearing the marks of sharp injuries in her neck, was recovered around 4 am, said Ataur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Bhurungamari Police Station.
Abu Bakar went into hiding right after the incident.

Shocker from Sirajganj: In-laws ‘shave housewife’s hair, eyebrows’
A 43-year-old man and two of his family members were detained by RAB members on Tuesday in a case filed on charge of shaving his wife’s hair and eyebrows in Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj.
The detainees are victim Gulnahar Parvin Minu’s husband Mehedi Hasan Sujon, 43, his brother Md Sumon,35, and mother Maina,55, residents of Satbaria village in the upazila.

They were detained around 6 am from Shahzadpur in Sirajganj and Savar during a joint drive of Rab-4 and Rab-12, said Major Md Mushfiqur Rahman, deputy commander of Rapid Action Battalion-12 (RAB).
Married in 2006, Minu and Mehedi live in Gazipur as Mehedi works in a garment factory.
Minu alleged her husband always tortured her both physically and mentally.
