A Dhaka court on Sunday sent former Shamima Akhter Khanam, a Krishak League leader and former MP from reserved women's seat of Sunamganj, to jail after rejecting her bail petition in a case filed over the killing of a Jubo League Dal leader Shamim. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqur Rahman passed the order after hearing a bail petition. DB Inspector Ferdous Alam, investigating officer of the case, produced him before the court. Advocate Farzana Yeasmin, a counsel of Shamima sought bail petition for her client. Detectives in a drive arrested Shamima from Dhaka’s Jigatola area on Saturday. Awami League announced a counter rally on the same day. Jubo Dal leader Shamim was killed in an attack during the rally. A case was filed with Paltan Police Station on September 24, 2024.
