Man to die for killing wife in Cumilla
A Cumilla court on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife in 2012.
The condemned convict is Moazzem Hossain Bhuiya Sumon, 30, son of Sheikh Ahmed Bhuiya of Chouddagram upazila.
Cumilla Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun handed down the punishment.

The court also fined him Tk 10,000.
According to the prosecution, Sumon demanded Tk one lakh from his wife Rozina as dowry. As she refused to provide the money, Sumon stabbed Rozina indiscriminately on February 26, 2012, leaving her dead.
Rozina’s sister Sharmin Akter lodged a complaint with Chouddagram Police. Police later registered a case.

Convict husband held after 21 years over killing wife for dowry
A fugitive convict who was sentenced to death in a case filed for burning his wife to death by pouring petrol on her body in Singair upazila of Manikganj, was detained by the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) from Bangshal area of the capital.The convict was identified as Md Alam,40, of Atipara village of Singair.

Man to die for killing wife for dowry
A Dhaka tribunal on Sunday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife over dowry in Demra of the capital 17 years ago.
The condemned convict was identified as Amin alias Fakir Amin, son of Fakir Chan of Gopibagh in Demra.
Dhaka Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge AM Zulficker Hayat handed down the punishment.
The Tribunal also fined him Tk 50,000.
According to the prosecution, Amin had got married to Shabana in 1993. The couple have been blessed with two children.
Amin used to torture mentally and physically Shabana for dowry since their marriage and to make them happy, Shabana’s parents provide Tk 3 lakh to Amin.

Later, he demanded Tk one lakh from Shabana’s parents but failed to bear the inhuman torture she brought Tk 20,000 from her parents and gave it to Amin. Amin then asked Shabana to provide the rest 80,000 after Eid.
When Shabana denied bringing the money, Amin poured kerosene on Shabana and set her on fire on November 11, 2005.
Later, she was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Shabana’s sister Yeasmin lodged a complaint with Demra Police Station. Police submitted chargesheet against Amin on March 12, 2006.

Man to hang for killing wife, daughter in Khulna
A Khulna court on Tuesday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife and one-year-old daughter over a family feud in 2015.
The condemned convict, Mahabubur Morol, is the son of Siraj Morol of Dumuria upazila of the district. He was tried in absentia.
Khulna Senior District and Sessions Judge Mir Shafiqul Alam handed down the punishment to Mahabubur and also imposed a fine of Tk 50,000.
According to the prosecution, Mahabubur married Reshma Begum in 2014. He used to torture his wife over small issues since their marriage.

On August 31, 2015, an argument broke out between Reshma and Mahabubur as she wanted to go to her parent’s house with her daughter.
At one stage, Mahabubur strangled his wife and daughter to death and left the place hurriedly.
On September 1, 2015, Reshma’s father Abul Kalam lodged a complaint with the Dumuria police and a double murder case was registered.
On December 31 the same year, police submitted a chargesheet against Mahabubur.

Councillor’s son arrested for killing wife in Chattogram
Police arrested a councillor’s son over allegations of killing his wife on Saturday night.
The arrestee has been identified as Nawshadul Amin, son of Nurul Amin, councillor of Saraipara ward no 12 under Chattogram’s Pahartoli police station.
Prior to the arrest, police recovered the body of Rehnuma Ferdous, wife of Nawshadul, from Nurul Amin’s house on the same day.
Rehnuma’s family has alleged that the deceased was killed in a planned way.
“They(Nurul Amin’s family) are saying that my daughter committed suicide, which is nothing but a drama,” said Tareq Imtiaz, father of the deceased.

Tareq filed a case accusing Nawshadul and his mother for the killing with Pahartoli police station, based on which the arrest was made, said Officer In-charge (OC) of Pahartoli police station Mostafizur Rahman.
“We will ask the court to take Nawshadul into remand,” added the OC.
