Minor boy dies in blast of toy-like object in Sylhet
A 10-year-old boy died in an explosion of a toy-like object coined with wire in Gowainghat upazila of the district Saturday night.
The deceased--Jewel Mia, was son of Moina Mia of Mohammadpur village under the upazila.
KM Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gowainghat police station, said the victim’s parents break stones imported from India.
Mother Josna got a toy-like substance coined with cables while breaking the stones recently, he said, adding that the blast occurred around 7pm when Jewel was attaching a battery of his father’s mobile phone to the object, leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to a hospital where physicians declared him dead on arrival, the OC said.

“Explosives often come with the consignment of stone imported from India and those are used in breaking the stones,” he said, quoting businesses and workers.
The body was sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the police officer added.

Youth accused of sodomizing minor boy in Kushtia
A case was filed accusing a youth of sodomizing a madrasa student in Daulatdia upazila of the district on Friday night.
The mother of the 11-year-old victim, a student of a local madrasa and resident of Hussainabad Kandirpara village, filed the case against the youth identified as Joy, 22, of Hussainabad Mallickpara in the same upazila.
In the case statement, the mother said her madrasa-going son went to a local field to cut grass for their cows on Friday morning.

The accused tactfully took the boy to a nearby betel leaf orchard and sodomized him for a long time, the statement said.
As the victim didn’t return till noon, the mother searched for him and found him injured in the orchard. Later he disclosed the matter to his mother.
SM Jabid Hasan, officer-in-charge of Daulatdia Police Station, said the victim was admitted to Kushtia Medical College Hospital for a medical test on Saturday morning.
Though the accused has been on the run, efforts are on to nab him, the OC added.

Minor boy dies falling off building in city
An eight-year-old boy died after falling off a seven-storey building while flying kite in the city’s Gendaria area on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Jisan Hossain Jim, son of Jamal of Gaibandha district.

Jisan’s father is a rickshaw puller while his mother works as a domestic help. They live at Faridabad Madrasha Road in Gendaria.
Jisan went to the roof of the seven-storey building where his mother works for flying kite around 11:30 am. At one stage, he slipped and fell on the tin roof of an adjacent house.
Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital police camp.
