Navy arrests wanted terrorist, seizes firearms in Teknaf
Bangladesh Navy arrested Shamshul Haque, a top terrorist with warrants in multiple cases, during an operation in Nazirpara area of Teknaf upazila on Sunday night, seizing firearms and ammunition.
According to the ISPR, a joint operation involving the Army's contingent and the Special Forces (SWADS) was launched based on secret information about Haque's location.
He was apprehended during a night-time chase. Following his arrest, police searched his house in the watermelon field area and recovered two foreign pistols, three rounds of pistol bullets, two rounds of shotgun ammunition, and a domestic sharp weapon.

Haque has long been involved in criminal activities including drug trafficking, extortion, hostage taking, and illegal land grabbing. He was handed over to the local police station with the recovered arms for legal action. In addition to murder and weapons cases, Haque has multiple arrest warrants pending at Teknaf Folice Station, added ISPR.
The Navy, following government and Election Commission directives, continues to secure sea and coastal areas ahead of the 13th national elections. About 5,000 personnel are deployed in 25 contingents across 16 constituencies in eight districts to help prevent terrorism, drug trafficking, and other criminal activities, ensuring a safe and fair election, the ISPR said.
