Banani slum fire under control
The fire which broke out at Godown slum in Dhaka’s Banani area has been brought under control.
The fire started at the slum around 4:05 pm on Sunday and engulfed it, said Talha bin Jasim, station officer of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD).
TK Group’s super board manufacturing factory catches fire in Munshiganj
On information, six firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 5:33 pm.
A team of Bangladesh Army also joined with the fire service teams, said a press release of ISPR.

However, the origin of the fire and extent of damages could not be ascertained yet.

In the main card battles, Amranul Faisal and Aminul Islam both achieved technical knockout wins against their respective opponents, Atiq Hassan Riyad and Praggya Don. Meanwhile, Utshob Ahmed secured a win in the Bantamweight division, and Emon Tongchangya made a striking debut with a first-round technical knockout against Robiul in the Super Middleweight category.

Over 200 illegal shops evicted during DNCC drive in Dhaka’s Banani
Over 200 illegal shops were evicted during a drive conducted by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in Dhaka’s Banani area on Monday.
DNCC extends anti-mosquito drive till Aug 31
During the drive, shops were evicted from both sides of the roads under ward-19, and a total of Tk 2.25 lakh was collected in five cases for illegally occupying footpaths, according to a press release.
Executive magistrates Md Zulkar Nayan and Rakhi Ahmed conducted the drive.

Deshal launches flagship store in Banani Tuesday
Clothing brand Deshal will launch its first flagship store in the capital's Banani Tuesday to continue its effort to carry an artist's work from the walls of the exhibition and transform it into a part of people's daily life.
The umbrella multi-category store brand now has six outlets, including the flagship store, along with its online store.
By 2023 Deshal wants to reach the doorsteps of the buyers with double the number of outlets across the country.

Judgment deferred again in Banani double rape case
With the courts closed in Dhaka Wednesday over the death of a Supreme Court lawyer, the judgment in the Banani double rape case has been deferred for the second time in a fortnight.
The five men are accused in the rape case of two female university students at a posh hotel in the capital's Banani area in March 2017. Police filed the chargesheet against them in June that year.

"The courts are closed due to the death of Abdul Baset Majumder, a senior Supreme Court advocate and that’s why the judgment in this case will not be pronounced," Afroza Farhana Orange, special public prosecutor, told UNB.
On October 3, the trial court set October 12 as the judgment day. But the judgment was deferred on that day too as the judge went on sick leave.

The five accused in the case -- Shafat Ahmed, Nayeem Ashraf alias Halif, Shadman Sakif, Shafat’s driver Billal Hossain and bodyguard Rahmat Ali -- are currently in judicial custody.
