5 dead, including 4 members of same family, after bus hits private car in Cumilla
Five people, including a husband, wife, and their two children, were killed when a private car was hit by a bus on the Dhaka–Chattogram highway in Kalakachua, Cumilla, on Thursday. The fifth victim was the private car driver.
The collision left the private car mangled, police said. Mainamati Highway Police Station OC Abdul Momin confirmed the incident, which occurred in front of Miami Hotel in Kalakachua, Burichang upazila, in the evening.
The deceased are Abdul Momin (50) of Chatarpaiya village in Sonaimuri, Noakhali; his wife Jharna Begum (40); their children Saif (7) and Labiba (18); and the private car driver Jamal Hossain (52) of Barishal.
Eyewitnesses said a bus of Star Line Transport rammed into the private car, crushing it instantly. The five occupants, including the children, were rushed to Cantonment General Hospital and Cumilla Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where four later died.
OC Abdul Momin added that the bodies were recovered and sent to the morgue, and the bus and car were removed from the highway. Legal action is underway.
