Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir on Saturday urged students to build themselves as individuals with honesty, morality and human values. “Merit helps a person move forward, but honesty, humanity and moral values make a person truly great,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at a scholarship distribution ceremony for children of police personnel who secured GPA-5 in the SSC, HSC and equivalent examinations in 2024 and 2025. Police Headquarters organised the programme  at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital. The scholarships were funded by the Bangladesh Police Welfare Trust. Additional IGP (Administration) A K M Awlad Hossain presided over the programme, while Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed and AIG Md Ismail Hossain, who delivered the welcome address, also spoke. Senior police officials, guardians and scholarship recipients attended the event. The IGP said the recognition was not merely an award but a recognition of the students’ merit and hard work, the authorities’ confidence in their future and trust in their potential. Fakir also warned them against drugs, saying they must remain alert against temporary curiosity or provocation that could lead them into addiction. “Drugs are a deadly trap,” he said, adding that excessive addiction to mobile phones, social media and internet games could be as harmful as addiction to other intoxicating substances. “Use technology, but remain alert so that technology cannot use you,” he said urging them to obey the law and encourage others to do the same. Scholarship recipients Kazi Md Tanan Hossain, Syeda Sabiha Musharrat Mumu, Md Adnan Zawad and Mustaina Manzur shared their feelings at the event. Among the guardians, Additional DIG Shampa Yasmin and Police Inspector Sheikh Farukuzzaman also spoke. Congratulating the students, DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed urged them to work tirelessly to maintain their success and reduce screen time to focus on studies. Additional IGP Awlad Hossain urged the students to demonstrate their merit in every sphere of life, refrain from wrongdoing and work for the welfare of the country and its people. A total of 801 students who secured GPA-5 in the 2024 SSC examinations and 272 in the HSC examinations received scholarships. In 2025, 845 SSC and 195 HSC GPA-5 achievers received the scholarships. 2,113 students received Bangladesh Police scholarships in the two years. Of them, 360 Dhaka-based students were formally awarded scholarships at Saturday’s ceremony. The remaining scholarships will be distributed through the respective district police superintendent’s offices.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir on Saturday has called on students to contribute to raising Bangladesh’s global image through merit, intellectual development and positive thinking. He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the “IGP Scholarship-2025” distribution ceremony held at the Bangladesh Retired Police Officers Welfare Association complex seminar hall in Rajarbagh, Dhaka. The event was organised by the Bangladesh Retired Police Officers Welfare Association, with its president (retired Additional IGP) Dr M Akbar Ali in the chair. IGP urges honesty, professionalism to earn public trust Addressing the scholarship recipients, the IGP said students should work for the welfare of the country and its people alongside their studies. He stressed the importance of learning laws and developing a mindset of obeying them, adding that students should always maintain positive thinking and prioritise social welfare over personal interests. He also said that members of the Bangladesh Police will not be spared if found involved in crimes, adding that legal action will be taken against them. “Bangladesh Police will stand as back up,” he said. The IGP further stated that every district police station has been declared a “zero complaint” station. Dr Akbar Ali, in his presidential remarks, said police members must maintain good behaviour with the public. Students from different police educational institutions also shared their views on “What kind of police we want”, calling for a friendly and people-oriented police force that balances law enforcement with humane treatment. A total of 400 students who achieved GPA-5 in SSC and HSC examinations in 2025 received the IGP Scholarship funded by CSR contributions of Community Bank Bangladesh PLC. Of them, 100 students from Dhaka-based institutions received scholarships directly at the event, while the remaining 300 will receive theirs through respective district police superintendents. Community Bank Bangladesh PLC Managing Director (CC) Kimia Saadat attended as special guest. Among others, association vice-presidents, retired police officials, teachers and students from police-run educational institutions were present.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir on Tuesday sought support from Ireland in strengthening the capacity of the police force. The IGP said this during a meeting with Irish Ambassador to Bangladesh Kevin Kelly at Police Headquarters on Tuesday. The Irish Ambassador expressed interest in enhancing cooperation between the police forces of the two countries. He also exchanged views with the IGP on police reform in Bangladesh and other issues of mutual interest. Justice will follow for all pre- and post-August 5 police fatalities: IGP The IGP said the Irish Ambassador on the reform programmes and various activities of Bangladesh Police. Senior police officials were present at the meeting.
