NGO worker hacked, robbed of Tk 1 lakh in Rajshahi
An NGO worker was hacked and robbed of around Tk 1 lakh by alleged muggers in Durgapur municipality of Rajshahi district on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred in the Singa Paschimpara area under the municipality.
Injured Shahinur Rahman, 29, son of Shahjahan Ali of Buriganj area in Shibganj upazila of Bogura, works as a field officer for SEED.
His colleague Monira Khatun was with him during the incident.
Police said Shahinur and Monira were returning to their office on a motorcycle after collecting instalment payments when their vehicle ran out of fuel on a road south of a mill in Singa Paschimpara.
At that time, two unidentified youths wearing helmets arrived on a motorcycle and began recording video on their mobile phones. As Shahinur objected, this led to an argument.
At one stage, the assailants took out a machete from a bag and attacked Shahinur, leaving him with serious injuries to his right arm and fingers of his left hand. He fell to the ground.
The attackers then snatched a bag from Monira containing around Tk 1 lakh, which had been collected as instalments.
Locals rescued Shahinur and first took him to Durgapur Upazila Health Complex. He was later shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as his condition worsened.
Rafiqul Islam, Inspector (Investigation) of Durgapur Police Station, stated that legal action will be taken after investigation.

26 muggers arrested in Dhaka, RAB says
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in separate drives arrested 26 muggers from different parts of the capital.
The drives were conducted in Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, and Tejgaon Industrial areas of the capital, said a press release of Rab-2.
RAB conducted the drives in the city following growing incidents of mugging in Dhaka.
After primary interrogation, the muggers said they used to snatch belongings from the people at night and refrain from going out during the day time.

5 teen gang operators arrested in Dhaka
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested five people who operates teen gangs from Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area on Friday (February 09, 2024).
The arrestees were identified as Zulfiker Ali, 37,a ringleader of the operator of teen gang of Jamalpur, Harun-or Rashid, 38 of Mymensingh, Shamsuddin Bepari, 48 of Bhola, Krishna Chandra Das, 28 of Munshiganj and Suruj Mia, 30 of Mymensingh districts.
Tipped off, a team of Rab-3 conducted a drive in Mohammadia Housing Society and arrested the five people including ringleader Zulfiker who operate two teen gangs ‘Diamond’ and ‘De Dhakka’, on Friday night, said Azhar Hossain, assistant superintendent of police.

The elite force also seized one foreign made pistol, one magazine, two sharp weapons and seven knives from the possession.
After primary interrogation, police came to know that they had long been involved in engaging drug addicts or teens in different criminal activities including arms and drug business, mugging, extortion, abduction, robbery and land occupation after alluring them of giving money, said Azhar.
The teen members of Zulfiker’s gangs were involved in mugging.

Kalapara AC (land) injured by muggers in Savar
The assistant commissioner (land) of Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali district was injured in an attack by some muggers in CNB area on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital on Monday night.
The injured is Abu Bakar Siddique, son of Kamal Uddin of Mirzapur upazila in Tangail district.

Deepak Chandra Saha, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station, said Abu Bakar came here to participate in a training programme.
A group of muggers swooped on Abu Bakar when he was passing through the CNB area in the night and snatched money and mobile phone set from his possession.

The muggers also stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him injured.
Later, he was taken to Enam Medical College and Hospital.
Police are trying to arrest the attackers, said OC.

13 muggers held in Dhaka
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) has detained 13muggers gang from different areas of the capital.
A team of Rab-3 detained the muggers after conducting simultaneous drives in Shahjahanpur, Motijheel and Paltan areas on Tuesday night, said Commanding Officer of RAB-3, Lt Col Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed.
The elite force also seized sharp weapons and a mobile phone from their possession.
During primary questioning, the alleged gang members said they used to mug people in these areas brandishing sharp weapons.
Legal steps have been taken against the detainees, the officer added.

37 muggers held in city
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members have detained 37 members of a mugging gang from different areas in the capital.
A team of Rab-3 detained the muggers after conducting simultaneous drives in Shahjahanpur, Motijheel, Mugda and Tejgaon areas on Saturday night, said Additional Superintendent of Police and staff officer (Media) Bashir Ahmed.

During primary questioning, the alleged gang members said they used to mug passengers at bus stands and railway stations in the city spraying sedatives on their face and brandishing sharp weapons.

Muggers strike with sharp weapons, make off with Tk 5 lakhs from Rocket agent
Muggers took away Tk 5 lakhs from an agent of mobile banking platform Rocket after stabbing him in Kashimpur Baganbari area of the district on Tuesday.
The injured, identified as Rocket agent of Dutch Bangla Bank’s digital mobile banking Sahed Hossain, is undergoing treatment at a clinic in Konabari area of the district.
Mohammad Jahid Hossain, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kashimpur Police Station, said Sahed went to the Baganbari area to collect money from agents around noon on the day.

A group of five muggers riding two motorbikes interrupted him and snatched away his collected money after stabbing him, said he, adding that the victim suffered serious injury in the incident.
Hearing screams, locals rushed to the spot and took him to the clinic, the OC said adding that the victim lodged a complaint in this connection.
“We visited the scene and collected CCTV footage to identify the criminals and drives are on to nab them,” added the police officer.

Auto-rickshaw driver stabbed by muggers in Dhaka's Khilgaon dies
A CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, who was stabbed by muggers in Dhaka's Khilgaon Sunday, died at a hospital in the early hours of Monday, police said.
Mamun Howlader, 48, was from Mehendiganj upazila, Barishal, and lived in a rented house with his family in Kamrangir Char, Dhaka.
"The incident occurred Sunday afternoon. The critically injured Mamun was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and he succumbed to his injuries at 4:05am today," Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost, said.

"The body was sent to DMCH morgue for autopsy," he added.
Mamun's nephew Arif Hossain said his uncle was attacked as he was having tea after completing a trip to Khilgaon's Taltola.
At this time, some muggers tried to snatch his auto-rickshaw keys. As Mamun resisted he was stabbed repeatedly.

As the auto-rickshaw driver screamed for help, locals rushed there and caught one of the attackers and handed him over to police, Arif said.

Gang of muggers nabbed in city
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) said on Friday that the force detained 21 members of a mugging gang from the city’s Motijheel, Paltan, Shahjahanpur and Tejgaon area.
The elite force also seized sharp weapons and sedatives from them during the drive on Thursday.
A team of Rab-3 detained the muggers after conducting simultaneous drives in Motijheel, Paltan, Shahjahanpur and Tejgaon area on Thursday night, said Rab-3 Additional Superintendent Bina Rani Das.

During primary interrogation, the alleged gang members said they usually hide in the alleys and mug pedestrians, rickshaw riders, and CNG-run auto-rickshaw passengers, brandishing sharp weapons. They also commit murder if anyone resists their bid.
The muggers are active in and around Khilgaon, Malibagh Rail Gate, Dainik Bangla intersection, Pir Jangi Mazar crossing, Kamalapur Battala, Motijheel Calvert Road, Nasirertek of Hatirjheel, Shahbagh, Gulbagh, Rajuk crossing, UBL crossing, Paltan intersection, Golap Shah Mazar crossing, High Court crossing, Abdul Gani Road, Maniknagar Stadium, Nandipara Bridge, and Basabo crossing from evening till dawn.
Legal steps are underway against the detainees, the official added.

Auto-rickshaw driver found dead in Natore
Police have recovered the body of a auto-rickshaw driver from Ghatchilan area of Lalpur upazila in Natore district.
The deceased was identified as Milon Hossain, 30, of Mahishbhanga of Boraigram upazila.

Milon went out with his battery-run auto-rickshaw asusual on Saturday afternoon and he remained missing since then, said police.
Based on a complaint, police started investigation and recovered the body from a roadside sugarcane field in Ghatchilan area on Sunday night, said Monoaruzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Lalpur police station.

There were several injury marks on Milon’s body, said the OC.
Muggers might have killed him for snatching his auto-rickshaw, he added.
