PM halts convoy on expressway to let ambulance pass
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday made way for an ambulance by halting his motorcade on the elevated expressway near Karwan Bazar, breaking the usual VVIP protocol.
Witnesses said the Prime Minister halted his motorcade in the morning while heading to his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
The motorcade was moving towards the FDC intersection via the Banani section of the expressway around 9:00am when an ambulance, sounding its siren, was seen trying to pass through the traffic behind the convoy.
Noticing the situation, the Prime Minister instructed security officials to allow the ambulance to pass.
Following the directive, the convoy slowed down and made space, enabling the emergency vehicle to move ahead without delay.
Witnesses described the move as spontaneous and humanitarian, noting that such scenes are uncommon.
In Bangladesh, traffic is often halted to allow VVIP motorcades to pass, forcing other vehicles to wait.
The Prime Minister’s action reflects a shift from that practice, highlighting a people-first approach, said a witness.
