125,000 health staff to be recruited in 3-4 years: PM’s spl assistant Ziauddin
Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Health Affairs Ziauddin Hyder on Sunday said the government will recruit 100,000 new health workers and 25,000 midwives over the next three to four years to take healthcare services to people’s doorsteps.
He made the announcement at a press briefing at Secretariat to share the outcomes of his recent visit to Europe, including his participation in the 34th International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) Triennial Congress held in Lisbon, Portugal.
Ziauddin Hyder said he attended the congress as a keynote speaker at the opening ceremony.
More than 3,000 midwives from around 122 countries took part in the event.
Representatives from international organisations, including UNFPA, as well as lawmakers and ministers from different countries, were also present.
He said Bangladesh highlighted its commitment to strengthening primary healthcare during the congress.
“We mentioned that the government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is giving the highest priority to strengthening primary healthcare across the country. We are working to transform our healthcare system from being mainly treatment-focused to one that places greater emphasis on prevention,” he said.
