Police recovered the bodies of two women from Purba Shibram village in Sundarganj Upazila of Gaibandha on Sunday night. Police said three people, including the husband of one of the victims, have been arrested in connection with one of the deaths. One of the victims was identified as Ayesha Siddika, daughter of Sirajul Islam of Purba Shibram village. She married Mosharraf Hossain, an expatriate from a neighboring village, four years ago. Her father said Ayesha recently learned that her brother-in-law's wife was involved in an extramarital affair. Since she obstructed it, members of her in-laws' house became agitated. Sirajul Islam alleged that his daughter was strangled inside her room on Sunday midnight and her body was later hung from a ceiling beam. Sirajul also alleged that when he went to Sundarganj Police Station to file a case, police did not accept it and instead advised him to settle the matter through mediation. In a separate incident in the same village, Abdul Awal Khan allegedly killed his wife, Sajeda Begum, following a family dispute and later hung her body. Police said injury marks were found on different parts of her body. Following a complaint filed by Sajeda's father, Sahib Uddin, police arrested three people, including Awal Khan. Shahin Mohammad Amanullah, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sundarganj Police Station confirmed the incidents on Monday morning. He said the bodies were sent to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies.
