Prime Minister Tarique Rahman began his day on Tuesday by attending a breakfast reception hosted by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres for world leaders and their spouses at the UN headquarters in New York. The breakfast was held at the North Dialogue Lounge at 8:00am local time, said Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu. Tarique Rahman and his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman attended the reception, he said. At the start of the breakfast, world leaders and their spouses joined Guterres and his wife for a group photo session, Shiplu said. Tarique Rahman, accompanied by his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman, also joined them on the stage, exchanged greetings with Guterres and his wife and took part in the photo session. The Prime Minister arrived in New York on Monday evening to attend the 81st session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA). After breakfast, he is scheduled to attend the opening session of the UNGA and hold a series of meetings with heads of government and state on the sidelines of the session. According to his itinerary, the Prime Minister will address the UN General Assembly on September 24. It will be his maiden address to the world body as prime minister, and he is expected to deliver the speech in Bangla, in line with the tradition of Bangladeshi leaders addressing the UN in their mother tongue. Alongside the UNGA engagements, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings and high-level engagements with heads of government of several countries and leaders of international organisations
