State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir on Thursday said the government is committed to promoting inclusive governance, social justice and equal opportunities. "We seek to protect rights, empower women and youth, and foster social cohesion and sustainable peace," he said, adding that the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) can help advance these nationally led priorities. The State Minister was speaking at the UN Peacebuilding Commission ministerial meeting in New York titled “National Ownership in Practice: Strengthening Inclusive State Institutions through International Peacebuilding Support." He thanked Morocco for convening this meeting as PBC Chair. Bangladesh was elected as Vice-Chair of this session. "We are grateful to Member States for reposing their trust and confidence in us for this important responsibility. I also appreciate our fellow Vice-Chairs for their valuable support and cooperation," Kobir said. Over the past two decades, he said they have witnessed inspiring examples of how local communities, national governments and UN can work together to prevent violence and build sustainable peace. "We believe, PBC should continue to build on these experiences and further strengthen such efforts," Kobir said.
