Students of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital blocked the main road of the college demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those relatives of a patient who attacked two intern doctors at the hospital on Monday night. Sources said two relatives of a patient at the hospital misbehaved with an intern doctor on Sunday. Later, they were handed over to the police. To take revenge for the incident, relatives of the patient entered the college campus and chopped two intern doctors. Injured interns are Rudro and Naimur Rahman Imon. They were admitted to the hospital. Read: MAG Osmani’s 35th death anniversary Saturday Ahmad Muntakim Chowdhury, general secretary of MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital Intern Chikitsak Parishad said, “We have called strike protesting the attack by the outsiders. Our strike will continue until their arrest.” Sylhet Metropolitan Police Deputy-Police Commissioner (North) Md Azhar Ali said they are on the spot and trying to displace the agitated students from the road. Meanwhile, patients cannot enter the hospital due to blockades triggering immense suffering.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Friday said Sylhet will become one of the hubs of modern medical services. He said thousands of people from Bangladesh go to neighboring countries for treatment every year. Highlighting the various steps taken by the government for the development of medical services in Sylhet, the Foreign Minister said the capacity of SOMC Hospital to provide medical services has increased significantly with the completion of the ten-storey outdoor building. Besides, the minister said the eight-storey building under construction of Sylhet Sadar Hospital will be completed by May next year and then the medical services in Sylhet will be further advanced. Director of Osmani Medical College Hospital, Sylhet Deputy Commissioner and local administration officials were present among others on the occasion.
