Dhaka tops list of cities with worst air quality
Dhaka has topped the list of cities around the world with the worst air quality this morning (January 15, 2023).
With an air quality index (AQI) score of 285 at 9:30 am on Sunday, Dhaka ranked first in the list of cities with worst air.
An AQI between 151 and 200 is said to be ‘unhealthy’ while 201 and 300 is considered ‘very unhealthy’, and 301 to 400 is considered 'hazardous', posing serious health risks to residents.

India’s Delhi, Bishkek of Kyrgyzstan occupied the second and third places with an AQI of 193 and 190 respectively.
In Bangladesh, the AQI is based on five criteria pollutants -- Particulate Matter (PM10 and PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2 and Ozone.
Dhaka has long been grappling with air pollution issues. Its air quality usually turns unhealthy in winter and improves during the monsoon.

As per the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution kills an estimated seven million people worldwide every year, largely as a result of increased mortality from stroke, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer and acute respiratory infections.

Air quality: Dhaka world’s 3rd most polluted city this morning
Air pollution still remains one of the top-most environmental challenges for Bangladesh and Dhaka has ranked as the third most polluted city in the world with ‘very unhealthy’ air quality this morning.
Dhaka’s air quality index (AQI) score was 239 at 9 am today (January 12, 2023).
An AQI between 201 and 300 is said to be ‘very unhealthy’, while a reading of 301 to 400 is considered 'hazardous', posing serious health risks to residents.

Pakistan’s Karachi and India’s Delhi occupied the first two spots in the list, with AQI scores of 428 and 241 respectively.
In Bangladesh, the AQI is based on five criteria pollutants -- Particulate Matter (PM10 and PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2 and Ozone.

Dhaka's air quality still ‘very unhealthy' as it ranks 2nd worst polluted city
Dhaka's air quality continued to be in the 'very unhealthy' zone on Thursday morning.
With an air quality index (AQI) score of 2:18 at 08:45 am, the metropolis ranked second in the list of world cities with the worst air quality.
An AQI between 201 and 300 is said to be ‘very unhealthy’, while a reading of 301 to 400 is considered 'hazardous', posing serious health risks to residents..
Pakistan’s Lahore and China’s Wuhan occupied the first and third spots with an AQI of 309 and 204, respectively.
Meanwhile, an AQI between 101 and 200 is considered 'unhealthy', particularly for sensitive groups.

Dhaka’s air quality still ‘very unhealthy’ as it ranks second-worst polluted city
Dhaka recorded a fall in air pollution with its air quality index (AQI) hitting 225 around 9am on Monday.
The densely populated capital of Bangladesh has, in fact, been ranked second-most polluted in the latest list of world cities with the worst air quality being categorised as 'very unhealthy'.
When air quality is in this 'very unhealthy' range, it is expected that there will be widespread effects among the general population and more serious effects in members of sensitive groups.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Lahore occupied the first spot with a score of 321 which is classified as ‘Hazardous’.

China’s Wuhan occupied the third spot with a score of 220 which is 'very unhealthy'.
