4 arrested over murder of trader, assistant in Dhaka
Police arrested four members of a gang on Thursday for their suspected involvement in killing a local raw material trader and his assistant after kidnapping from the capital’s Lalbagh area .
The arrestees were identified as Nuruzzaman Hawladar, 40, Md A Aziz Shikder, 34, Hafez Choukidar, 46, and Delwar Hossain Molla Delu, 35, said a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) press release on Thursday.
They were all arrested during drives at different places in the capital and Barishal district, said police.

Plastic raw materials trader Jewel Shikder’s father registered a general diary on the night of December 15 at Chawkbazar police station over his son going missing.
After that police started a shadow investigation and drive and traced last location of Jewel and his assistant Morshed Alam at Mehediganj upazila in Barishal.
Later DMP Chawkbazar police conducted a drive to rescue the victims but managed to arrest the four kidnappers.
In primary questioning the arrestees confessed to kidnapping Jewel and Morshed for snatching money.

They took the victims in the middle of the Meghna River in Barishal by a fishing trawler and strangled them after getting the money. They confirmed their death by drowning them in the river, said police.
A case has been filed in this regard at Chawkbazar model police station.

Bizman robbed of Tk 1.5 lakh in Sylhet
Armed men held a stone crushing mill owner at gunpoint and robbed him of Tk 1.5 lakh in Companiganj upazila of Sylhet on Wednesday, police said.
Around 8.30pm, Bashir Mia, son of Imamul Haque from Islampur village of the upazila, was returning home from Allah Bhorosha Crusher Mill in the Bholaganj No 10 area.
"As soon as I reached the Parua Sakera area of the busy Sylhet-Bholaganj highway, the criminals intercepted me, pointed a gun at me and left with my bag containing Tk 1.5 lakh,” Bashir said in his police complaint.

Bashir sustained injuries as he was manhandled by the robbers when he initially tried to resist the crime. He received first aid at Companiganj Health Complex.
Officer-in-charge of Companiganj police station, Shukanto Chakrabarti, said that they had received a complaint from the victim. “Efforts are on to nab the robbers,” he said.

Youth stabbed to death in Bogura
A 22-year-old youth was stabbed to death allegedly by some miscreants in the Colony area of Bogura city on Friday evening.
The deceased was identified as Boni, son of Anishur Rahman Babu, a dentist from Maltinagar Paschimpara in the town.
Police said a month-long weaving and textile fair was underway at Bogura Mohammad Ali Hospital playground. As a part of this fair, some youths were selling lottery tickets in front of Taj Pharmacy in the Colony Battala area on Friday evening. Boni bought a lottery ticket from them. When Boni went to put down the lottery into the lottery box, he had an altercation with another youth named Sohan.
At one stage, some others along with Sohan hacked Boni mercilessly, leaving him seriously injured.
Later, he was taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where Boni died after a while.
Police recovered the body immediately after being informed, said Additional Superintendent of Police Sharafat Islam of Bogura Sadar Circle.
The body has been kept in the hospital morgue.
“Efforts are on to nab the culprits,” added the officer.

Missing gold trader found dead after 5 months
Police have recovered the body of a gold trader from Sirajdikhan, Munshiganj five months after he went missing.
Anup Baul, a gold trader in Old Dhaka's Tanti Bazar, was from Teghoria union of South Keraniganj.
Biplob Baul, the younger brother of the deceased, said Anup was owed Tk2 lakh by his business partner Noyon – that at the time of his disappearance he was trying to get back.
In fact, on the day Anup went missing, last January 4, Noyon had told him over the phone that he was ready to pay up, for which he asked to meet in Sirajdikhan. Since then, Anup had been missing.
A general diary was filed at Sirajdikhan Police Station the next day.
Later Biplob lodged a complaint at Dhalpur RAB-10 office in the capital.
Police's Detective Branch (DB) detained Noyon over the incident and questioned him, according to Khorshed Alam, superintendent of police at PBI Dhaka district unit.
Based on Noyon's information, police recovered Anup's body Thursday and sent it to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, added the officer.

Trader stabbed to death in Narail
A 55-year-old trader was stabbed to death allegedly by his rivals in Telkara village of the district's Lohagara upazila on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Nizam Sheikh, son of Peta Sheikh of the village. He was a vegetable vendor in Baradia Bazar.
Police suspect the murder was a fallout of an old rivalry between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy.

Around 9pm on Monday, a group of assailants attacked Nizam and stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him dead on spot, said Sheikh Abu Hena Milon, officer-in-charge of Lohagara police station.
The body has been kept at the morgue of the local government hospital for an autopsy. “Efforts are on to nab the culprits,” said the officer.

TCB goods recovered from Gazipur market godown; trader arrested
Police arrested a trader on Sunday night after recovering essential goods of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) from his godown in Gazipur that was to be sold at a subsidised price by the government to the poor.
The arrestee was identified as Md Shahin, 33.
Ismail Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Gacha police station said Shahin was arrested during a drive conducted at Alhaz Mohor Khan Waqf Estate market at Board Bazar area following a tip off.

During the drive at Sabbir-Shahin godown in the market, 2 liters each 37 bottles of edible oil, 37 packet sugar and 37 packets pulse with TCB packaging were recovered.
In primary questioning Shahin said Jahangir Alamand Rafiq, office assistants of Abdullah Al Mamun Mandal, ward-35 councilor have sold him the TCB goods, said OC Ismail Hossain.
“ Shamim said the office staffers of the ward-35 councilor sold oil at Tk 150 per litre, sugar at Tk 60 per Kg, pulse at Tk 70 per Kg to him and some other traders. We are conducting an investigation in this regard,” said the OC.

To interrogate the accused a seven day remand will be sought after producing him before court, he said.
Meanwhile local sources said on Sunday, the first day of TCB sale through family cards , many listed families of ward-35 had to return empty handed at the early end of the sale at the councilor's office.

3 cops closed in Feni after complaint of mugging trader
Three policemen were on Monday closed to the police lines in a punitive action after a trader complaint that he was mugged by them in Companiganj upazila of the district.
The action was taken against assistant sub-inspector of Feni Model Police Station Zahirul Haque and two constables of Adarshagram police camp—Kawsar and Anwar Hossain, said assistant superintendent of police (Sonagazi circle), Mashqur Rahman.
Sheikh Farid, a trader of Chotodhali village in Companiganj upazila, said three policemen riding a CNG-run auto-rickshaw waylaid him on his way home from business establishment around 12 am.

They snatched away Tk 48,600 from him, he said. As he demanded the money back, the policemen tried to pick him up threatening to implicate him as a Yaba trader, said Farid.
When Farid raised hue and cry for help, local people caught them and handed them over to police.
Sajedul Islam Palash, officer-in-charge of Sonagazi Model Police Station, however, denied that the trader was mugged by the cops.
A probe body has formed to look into the matter and action will be taken after investigation, said ASP Mashqur.

Trader slaughtered in Cumilla
A trader was slaughtered by some miscreants at his house in Nurpur Chowmuhani area of Cumilla city Sunday night.
The deceased is Rafi Sarwar, son of late Anwar Hossain of the area. He was involved in the mobile recharge business.
Police said Rafi's mother Syda Aktar returned home from a relative's home and found his son's slaughtered body lying on bed around 9pm.

Later, police recovered the body at 10pm, said Sahidur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station.
The motive behind the murder is not yet known, said the OC.
The cause of the murder is being investigated. Criminal Investigation Department (CID) members collected several clues from the scene, the OC added.

In debt, Ctg garment trader 'ends life'
A local garment trader allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his factory office in the port city of Chattogram Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Nasir Uddin, 43, the owner of JNK fashion.
Sadekur Rahman, inspector (investigation) at Panchlaish police station, said the trader ended his life around 7.30 pm in his office inside Chowdhury Mansion.

Locals rushed Nasir to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, said the Inspector.
Preliminary interrogation has revealed that Nasir took the extreme step as he was in huge debt, said Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the Pahartoli police station.
"We will have a chat with his family members. The body has been sent for an autopsy," said inspector Sadekur.

Trader stabbed to death in Jashore
A trader was stabbed to death and two others were injured in an attack by miscreants at Kharki in the Jashore district town on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Al Amin, 24, son of Alamgir Hossain of the area.
Maniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, said a group of miscreants swooped on them while they were returning home around 9:30pm.
The miscreants stabbed them indiscriminately, leaving them injured.
Later, they were taken to Jashore Medical College Hospital. Doctors referred Al Amin to Khulna Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Al-Amin died while being taken to KMCH around 1am.
Police arrested three suspects over the murder.
