Police arrested three people in connection with the killing of a mentally-challenged woman after raping her in Gowainghat upazila of the district. The arrestees--Jabbar Miah, son of Jalil Miah of Mujibnagar village, Bachhu Miah, son of Barek Miah of the same village and Sebul Miah, son of Harunur Rashid of Budhigaon Haor village, were all  residents of the upazila. Probas Kumar Singha, senior assistant superintendent of police (Gowainghat circle) of the district police, disclosed these at a press conference at Gowainghat police station on Tuesday noon. He said the arrestees were Yaba addicts and accused of several cases including theft and other anti-social activities. Read more: Four arrested in Khulna over gang rape of woman The accused hit upon a plan to rape the mentally-challenged woman when they were taking Yaba at the house of Jabbar on the night of December 11. As per plan, they took away the woman to a hillock on the pretext of giving her food and other things, he said. The trio killed her by hitting her on the head and other parts of the body with sticks and stones when she tried to resist their attempts to rape her, the police officer narrated. Police recovered the body from the hillock upon information from the locals as they spotted her on December 12 morning, he said. The police station’s Sub Inspector Jahirul Islam Khan filed a murder case accusing some individuals as unidentified on the same day. The clueless case’s Investigation Officer Emrul Kabir arrested Jabbar, Bachhu and Sebul on December 15, 18 and 19 respectively from several areas. Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal here on Thursday sentenced three people to death for raping a girl in front of her mother 19 years ago. The tribunal also fined the convicts  Tk 2 lakh each. The convicts are—Abul Kashem, son of Fakir Ahmed, Md Latu, son of Abdur Rashid and Jahangir Alam, son of Abul Kalam from Nababpur union under Feni’s Fulgazi upazila. Public Prosecutor Farid Ahmed Hazari said that all the convicts except Faruk were tried in absentia. According to the case statement, Abul Kashem, Latu, Jahangir Alam and Mohammad Faruk abducted the victim and her mother on the night of May 13, 2003. Later, they raped the girl keeping her mother at gunpoint. Police have arrested a man for allegedly raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter in Kamalnagar upazila of Lakshmipur. Locals told UNB that the accused had been living at his parents-in-law's house since his marriage with the rape survivor’s mother three years ago. The girl narrated her ordeal to her aunt the next morning, following which the police were informed and a complaint was lodged. The girl has been sent for a medical test," Mohammad Solaiman, officer-in-charge of Kamalnagar police station, said.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two people from Sylhet’s South Surma upazila for kidnapping and raping a 17-year-old girl. The arrestees are Abdul Ali, 40, of Jafrabad village under the upazila and Md. Alauddin, 32, of Chhopdolpur village. READ: Minister urges Sylhet DC not to collect entry fee at Jaflong  The victim was rescued and they were arrested from Jalalpur Bazar area of the upazila on May 8, said Somen Majumder, Assistant Director, Media Wing of RAB-9 on Tuesday. Initially, the victim told RAB that 4 to 5 unidentified persons, including the arrestees kidnapped her in a CNG-run autorickshaw and later gang-raped her for 10 days keeping her captive. The victim was kidnapped on April 29 from the Moglabazar area, said a RAB media release.

Two people were arrested over raping a female student of class III in Salikha upazila  of Magura district.  The arrestees were Imdadul Haque, neighbour of the rape survivor and Rezaul Munshi, a local matabbar (an influential person). The arrestees were produced before court on Saturday, said Tarakanath Biswash, Officer-in-Charge of Salikha police station.  A case has been filed in this regard following a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother, said the OC.  On April 20, Imdadul Haque allegedly called the girl into his house when his wife went out  and raped her. Three youths allegedly raped a 5-year-old boy in Moheshkhali upazila in Cox’s Bazar and recorded the video of the crime, that they later shared using Facebook messenger.   The accused are Salah Uddin, 22, son of Saber Ahmed, Md Mamun, 16, son of Md Kasim, and Nezam Uddin,17, son of Tunu Mia.   On Sunday, a case was filled at Moheshkhali police station in this regard, followed by a complaint lodged by the victim's father, said Md Abdul Hai, Officer-in-Charge of Moheshkhali police station.   Also read: 3 held over gang rape of woman after abduction in Cox’s Bazar    According to the complaint, on March 20, around 3 pm the accused took the child to an abandoned shop in Matarbari union in the upazila and raped him.  They recorded a video of the incident and shared it among some of their acquaintances using messenger.   Locals recently got informed of the video as it spread and they got agitated.   Also read: Khulna gang rape: 2 more accused held   OC Abdul Hai said several teams of police are conducting operations to arrest the accused after the case filing.

Members of rapid Action Battalion (RAb) arrested two men on Sunday night in a case filed over raping a 15-year old girl after abduction in Gazipur. The arrestees are Harun Ur Rashid, 28, and Shipon, 32, said Major SM Maidul Islam, company Commander of Rab-1. On March 1, the accused abducted the victim from in front of her house in Sonatala village under Kaliakair police station in Gazipur and raped her several times. On March 4, the victim was rescued by locals and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after her condition deteriorated. Rab Porabari camp started a shadow investigation to arrest the accused after the victim's sister filed a case in this regard at Kaliakair police station under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Police arrested three people from Chowdhury Bazar area in Ramgati upazila here early Tuesday for allegedly raping a seventh grader on January 23.

A court on Thursday sent a shopkeeper to jail in a case filed over the rape of a physically-challenged girl in Paikosho area of Kamarkhand upazila on Sunday.
