Schoolboy killed in Dhaka road crash
A schoolboy was killed as an unidentified vehicle hit him in the city’s Tejgaon area on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Ali Hossain, 16, a resident of the area and a class X student of Government Science College.
The speeding vehicle hit Hossain in front of Bangladesh Government (BG) Press in Tejgaon industrial area around 7:30 am when he was going for his coaching classes, leaving him seriously injured, said Hossain’s father Azmir Matbor.

Locals rushed him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead, said DMCH police outpost in-charge inspector Md Bacchu Mia.
The body has been kept in the hospital morgue, he said.

Schoolboy drowns in city pond
A 17-year-old schoolboy drowned in a pond at the city’s Badda area on Tuesday, said police.
The deceased was identified as Miladun Nabi Mahim, a resident of the capital’s Aftab Nagar area.
Mahim drowned in the pond of Chinese Project at Aftab Nagar while bathing along with some friends in the afternoon.

Later, the fire service divers recovered his body and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where the doctor declared him dead, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost.
The body was kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy, he added.

Schoolboy dies from electrocution in Kurigram
A 12-year-old schoolboy died from electrocution while cutting a branch of a tree at Gorosthanpara in Kurigram municipality on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Pushanto, a class IV student of a local primary school and son of Porosh of the area.

Pushanto came in touch with an electric wire while cutting a branch of a tree and got electrocuted, said Khan Mohammad Shahrier, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Later, he was taken to Kurigram General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Schoolboy’s throat-slit body found in Tangail
Police recovered the throat-slit body of a schoolboy from a waterbody in Kalihati upazila of Tangail on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Rahat, 13, son of Shahadat Hossain of Agbaniya village of the upazila. He was a student of class VII of Balla Coronation High School.

Locals said Rahat remained missing since Tuesday night.
Locals spotted the throat-slit body in the waterbody at Kagujipara and informed police, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalihati Police Station Mollah Azizur Rahman.
The body was later sent to hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police detained two people for interrogation, the OC said.
Besides, processes are underway to file a case in this regard.

4 to die for killing schoolboy in N’ganj
A Narayanganj court on Sunday sentenced four people to death and two others to life imprisonment for killing a schoolboy in 2013.
Narayanganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2 Begum Sabina Yeasmin handed down the judgment.

The condemned convicts are Siraj, 45, son of Abdus Samad, Ahmed Ali, 55, Nahid, 21, son of Amanullah and Sentu Mia, 25.
The lifers are Salma, 42, son of Sirajul Islam Siraj and Husna, 47, wife of Ahmed.
The court also acquitted four accused from the murder charges as allegations brought against them could not be proved.
According to the prosecution, Ahmed Ali and his nephew Iqbal, a Bangladeshi expatriate in Singapore and son of Ismail Hossain of Char Radhanagar village in Fatulla area, had longstanding enmity with Iqbal.

As a sequel to the enmity, Ahmed took Iqbal’s brother Emon Hossain, 13, a class VI student, where he killed the boy and dumped the body after cutting the body into nine pieces on June 13, 2013.
Later, police recovered the body of Emon and a complaint was lodged with Sadar Police Station.
After investigation, police submitted a chargesheet against ten people.

Schoolboy killed in Dinajpur road crash
A 14-year old boy was killed in a road crash on his way to receive Covid-19 vaccine jab in Nawabganj upazila of Dinajpur on Monday.
The deceased was Hummayun Kabir, a student of class IX of Helencha High School and son of Shariful Islam Pradhan of Shibrampur village.

The accident occurred around 11 am when a sand-laden trolley truck hit an auto-rickshaw carrying Humayun and some six or seven of his classmates to Upazila Health Complex, said Bibhutibhusan Brati Ray, Sub-Inspector of Nawabganj police station.
Efforts are on to arrest the truck driver, said the SI.

Schoolboy found dead in Sirajganj
Police have recovered the hanging body of a teenager from Chalavora village in Sirajganj’s Kazipur upazila.
The body was recovered Thursday morning from a tree near his house.

The deceased was identified as Swapan (16), son of Mofazzal Hossain of the same village and a 10th grade student of Shimuldair Bohumukhi High School.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kazipur Police Station, Panchananda Sarkar confirmed the information and said Swapan went missing from his house around 8 pm on Wednesday (August 25). On Thursday morning, locals found his body hanging from a tree next to their house and informed the police.
Recovering his body, it was sent to Sirajganj Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital morgue for autopsy. A UD case has been registered in this regard, he added.

Kidnapped schoolboy found dead in Meherpur; 2 held
A 12-year-old schoolboy was found dead hours after he was kidnapped for ransom at a village in the district, police said Sunday.
Police found the body at Minapara village in Gangni upazila of Meherpur district on Saturday midnight.

The deceased was identified as Abir Hossain, a class V student of Minapara Government Primary School and son of expatriate Asadul Haque of Chuadanga district.
Bazlur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Gangni Police Station, said Abir along with his mother used to live at his maternal grandfather’s house since his childhood.
On Saturday, Abir went out with two people including Hamim Hossain, 15, son of Nuh Member by a motorbike and since then he remained missing.

Later, Abir’s family informed the police.
Zahurul Islam, grandfather of Abir said they received a phone call from a person asking for a ransom of Tk one lakh for the boy’s reelase on Saturday evening.
Later, a team of police conducted a drive and arrested Hamim and Muzahid, 15, son of Mirajul Islam of the village and following their statement, police recovered the body of Abir around midnight.

The arrestees told police that they strangled Abir to death and dumped the body there. They body was sent to local hospital morgue.
Both the arrestees have long been involved in many criminal cases including that of taking drugs and stealing.
