England will look to clinch the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh when they face off in the second ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Friday. The visitors won the first ODI by three wickets on Wednesday, posing a threat to end Bangladesh’s seven-year-old unbeaten run at home in the ODI series. Dawid Malan’s unbeaten century steered England to a smooth victory that seemed difficult on the challenging Mirpur pitch. Malan, who has plenty of experience playing in Bangladesh, assessed the situation well and delivered what England required. Both teams will be hoping for better batting performances in the second ODI, as they struggled to cope with the disciplined bowling from both sides. Bangladesh were bowled out for 209 overs, with only Najmul Hossain Shanto hitting a fifty. Shanto reached his maiden ODI half-century but fell soon after, playing a loose shot. The left-hander will be keen to convert his starts into big scores and cement his place in the middle order. England also lost wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 103-5 at one stage. Malan held the innings together with a mature knock and found support from Will Jack (26), Moeen Ali (14) and Adil Rashid (17 not out). The left-hander hit eight fours and four sixes and smothered Bangladesh’s charge with his calmness under pressure. England captain Jos Buttler praised Malan’s innings and said he was pleased with the team’s performance. Read more: Analysis of BAN vs ENG 1st ODI 2023 “It was a fantastic knock from Dawid Malan. He showed great composure and skill. It was a great win for us. We showed great character and fight,” he said after the match. Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal rued the lack of runs on the board and said his team need to bat better in the second ODI. “We were probably 20-25 runs short. We lost too many wickets in clusters. We need to bat better as a unit,” he said in the post-match presentation. Bangladesh are likely to stick with the same XI that played in the first ODI, unless they opt to replace underperforming Mustafizur Rahman with any of Ebadot Hossain and Hasan Mahmud. The pitch is expected to be similar to the one used in the first ODI, offering some assistance to both seamers and spinners. Dew could play a factor in the evening and prompt the team winning the toss to bowl first. The weather is forecasted to be dry but getting warm.
Left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed won the player of the match award in his second ODI match, as Bangladesh beat the West Indies by nine wickets to win the ODI series Wednesday at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Bangladesh won the first ODI at the same venue by six wickets. "The dressing room wasn't the happiest (after the Tests and T20Is), but everyone was eager to win. It feels great to win, but there is still room for improvement. And we need to tick more boxes," Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal told the media. Nasum bagged three wickets after Bangladesh chose to bowl first. The Tigers managed to restrict their hosts to 108/10 in 35 overs. Nicholas Pooran, West Indian captain, made a golden duck. Keemo Paul, the number eight batter, scored the most runs (25) for the hosts. Read: Shakib to skip West Indies ODIs, Zimbabwe tour In the absence of Shakib Al Hasan, right-arm all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowled superbly, picking up four wickets and conceding only 29 runs in eight overs. In reply to the West Indies' 108, Bangladesh won the match in just 20.4 overs, with Tamim scoring an unbeaten 50, and Liton Das 32. The visitors did not include Anamul Haque in the team. The right-handed batter did well in the 50-over format at the domestic level but failed to bring his form to the international format. He played five innings in the ongoing tour and managed to pass the 20-run mark only once. Kevin Spacey and his production companies must pay the studio behind “House of Cards” more than $30 million because of losses brought on by his firing for sexual misconduct, according to an arbitration decision made final Monday. A document filed in Los Angeles Superior Court requesting a judge's approval of the ruling says that the arbitrators found that Spacey violated his contract's demands for professional behavior by “engaging certain conduct in connection with several crew members in each of the five seasons that he starred in and executive produced House of Cards.” MRC, the studio behind “House of Cards,” had to fire Spacey, halt production of the show's sixth season, rewrite it to remove Spacey's central character, and shorten it from 13 to eight episodes to meet deadlines, resulting in tens of millions in losses, the document said. “The safety of our employees, sets and work environments is of paramount importance to MRC and why we set out to push for accountability," MRC said in a statement Monday. His attorneys argued that the actor's actions were not a substantial factor in the show's losses. The ruling came after a legal fight of more than three years and an eight-day evidentiary hearing that was kept secret from the public, along with the rest of the dispute. Spacey appealed the decision to a panel of three more private arbitrators, who found for the plaintiffs, making the decision final, and public, on Monday. "MRC stood its ground, pursued this case doggedly, and obtained the right result in the end,” plaintiff's attorney Michael Kump said in a statement. The one criminal case brought against him, an indecent assault and battery charge stemming from the alleged groping of an 18-year-old man at a Nantucket resort, was dismissed by Massachusetts prosecutors in 2019.

Bangladesh’s series win over Australia by a margin of 4-1 is a big step towards becoming a big team in future, believes Bangladesh all rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who won the player of the series award. Bangladesh played this series without the services of Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Liton Das, who are integral parts of the Bangladesh T20I setup. Despite their absence, young Bangladeshi players did well and lifted the title. It was Bangladesh’s maiden series win against Australia. Before this series, the Tigers faced Australia in four T20Is but failed to win any of them. When they will come back, our strength will surely increase,” Shakib added. Shakib believes that the young players created a healthy competition in the team. According to him, healthy competition is something that helps a team to become a big team. Along with Shakib, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam and Nasum Ahmed played tremendously well against Australia. In the third and fourth matches, Mustafizur conceded only nine runs each. His bowling performance against Australia became the talk of the cricketing world. Australian spinner Ashton Agar said Mustafizur is a “difficult customer”.
