Chinese national among 6 jailed in graft case
A Dhaka court on Wednesday sentenced six people including a Chinese national to different jail terms in a case filed over embezzling Tk 2.59 crore.
Judge of the Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 Iqbal Hossain handed down the judgment.

Of them, Chairman of The Sinfa Knitters Limited Chinese national Yang Wang Chug and its director Khasru Al Rahman get 13 years imprisonment while its director Mansurul Haque and Golam Mostafa 10 years imprisonment. All of them were tried in absentia.
Besides, then senior vice-president of National Bank Dilkusha branch Abdul Wadud Khan and its executive vice president Shahabuddin were sentenced to six years jail. The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each, in default, to suffer three months more rigorous imprisonment.
On October 26, a court fixed November 16 for delivering judgment in the case.

According to the case statement, the convicts, in collusion with each other took loan Tk 2.59 crore from National Bank after submitting a fake document of land against their business company and embezzled the whole money.
A deputy director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case with Motijheel Police Station on January 17, 2017.
On June 24, 2018, police submitted chargesheet against the six people.

Chinese national dies after falling sick in Chattogram
A Chinese worker of China Petroleum Pipeline (CPP) engineering company at Karnafuli area in Chattogram died on Friday night after falling sick at his residence.
The deceased was identified as Tiang Yu, 40, a foreman of the company.
Police said he suddenly fell sick at his rented house at Badamtali Apple Tower in the port city on Friday night.

Pachanlaish police station Officer-in-Charge Sadiqur Rahman said his colleagues took him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
However, the cause of the death could not be ascertained yet, he said.

Chinese worker goes missing in Chattogram
A Chinese national, working at a thermal power plant in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram district, has gone missing, police said on Thursday.
The missing Chinese worker has been identified as G Kingwan, 34, an employee of the S. Alam Group that owns the power plant in Chattogram.

"He has been missing since Wednesday noon. He was last spotted catching fish in the Bay of Bengal," said Safiul Kabir, officer-in-charge of the Banshkhali police station.
The Chinese national, along with his colleagues, went to the site adjacent to the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday morning for pipe installation work. His colleagues informed police about his disappearance around 2.30 pm.
"We are on the job," the OC said.

No trace of Chinese engineer 24 hrs after likely falling into Padma
There is still no sign of a 26-year-old Chinese engineer, working in the Padma Bridge Project, more than 24 hours after he reportedly fell in the river near the Shimulia ferry terminal in Munshiganj's Louhajang.
Zhao Jianpeng was tasked with installing a power tower (number 13) of the National Grid as part of the project. He had gone to the tower point for work at 5pm and went missing around 8:30pm Tuesday.
His colleagues alerted police after failing to locate him. On being informed, the fire service, coast guard, river police; and army personnel working in the security team of the project started conducting rescue operations but there was no trace of him till 9pm today.
