Li Jiming pays farewell call on Speaker Shirin Sharmin
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming Thursday paid a farewell call on Speaker of the Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the capital.
Yan Hualong, minister counsellor of the embassy, was also present.
During the meeting the speaker recalled her meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the latter's visit to Bangladesh in 2016, the talks with her Chinese counterpart Li Zhanshu earlier this year, and the experience of attending the past sessions of the China-South Asia Exposition.
She lauded the interactions between top leaders and parliaments of the two countries.

She asked Ambassador Li to convey her warm regards to the Chinese leaders and invited the Chinese side to the upcoming celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Bangladesh Parliament.
Shirin appreciated China's contribution to Bangladesh's fight against Covid-19, the construction of major development projects in the country, and the facilitation of repatriating displaced persons from the Rakhine State of Myanmar to Bangladesh.
She highly commended Ambassador Li for his significant contribution to Bangladesh-China relations during his tenure and welcomed him to visit Bangladesh anytime in the future.
Ambassador Li appreciated her efforts in promoting inter-parliamentary exchanges between the two countries.

He hoped that, with the help of the speaker, the Bangladesh Parliament would further contribute to pursuing economic growth in Bangladesh and uplifting China-Bangladesh relations to a higher level.
The two sides also discussed bilateral cooperation on trade and economy and people-to-people exchange.
Momen bids farewell to Li Jiming
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming had a farewell meeting with Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital Wednesday.
During the meeting, the foreign minister expressed his deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies over the death of the former president of China Jiang Zemin.
Momen appreciated Jiming's efforts and contributions to strengthening Bangladesh-China ties.
Also, he recalled the visits of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to China in 1952 and 1957 and referred to Bangabandhu's impression of the "New China," in his book "Amar Dekha Naya Chin" on his 1952 visit.
The foreign minister lauded the support of the Chinese government and the Chinese ambassador in addressing the Covid-19 pandemic in Bangladesh, particularly for the gift of over 5 million doses and for opening the commercial supply line of 77 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines to Bangladesh at the most critical time of the pandemic, and good progress of the China-assisted mega projects in Bangladesh.
Both sides exchanged views on regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest, including cooperation in different multilateral fora on SDGs, climate change, and South-South cooperation.

Reiterating Bangladesh's position on the "One China Policy," the foreign minister said Bangladesh shares the vision for a free, open, peaceful, secure, and inclusive Indo-Pacific, based on international law and with shared prosperity for all.
He hoped that China would continue to extend support towards the repatriation of the Rohingyas from Bangladesh to Myanmar at an early date for peace and security in the region.
Li Jiming pays farewell call on Raushon
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming Thursday paid a farewell call on opposition leader in parliament Raushon Ershad in the capital.
The envoy paid the visit at a city hotel around 11am, Golam Masih, political secretary to the Jatiya Party leader, said.
During the meeting, Li and Raushon discussed issues of bilateral interests.Raushon hoped that China would continue its cooperation with Bangladesh in the future.

During the meeting, the state minister appreciated Jiming's efforts and contributions to strengthening Bangladesh-China ties.

India not a strategic rival or competitor for China: Ambassador Jiming
He sees promising outlook, brighter future for Dhaka-Beijing relations
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming on Wednesday said his country does not have any “strategic rivalry or hostility” to Bangladesh’s friendly neighbor India at all.
The envoy said the two countries - India and China can "closely work together" to “resolve any economic, geopolitical and other issues” in this region and beyond.
“We never view India as a strategic rival or strategic competitor of China,” he said while speaking at “DCAB Talk” held at Jatiya Press Club.
Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) organised its flagship programme. DCAB President Rezaul Karim Lotus and General Secretary AKM Moinuddin also spoke at the programme.
Energy Cooperation
Media reported that India and China have been increasingly buying discounted Russian oil as global energy prices remain high.
Responding to a question, Ambassador Jiming said China is an importer of LNG and other products and generally speaking China is not in a good position to export those kinds of products to Bangladesh.
“If there is an emergency situation, I think, as always, China will not sit idle and keep watching,” he said, adding that both sides are in discussion on the possibility of any emergency supply.
Rohingya Crisis
On the Rohingya crisis, Ambassador Jiming said China keeps putting its efforts in pursuing early repatriation, and, at the same time, helps to improve settlement facilities to relieve local sufferings.
“We also appreciate Bangladesh for coping well with the turbulence along the Myanmar border,” he said.
“You need sincere support from the Myanmar side,” he said, adding that they have an Asian way of solving it.
Asked then why the Rohingya issue is not being resolved, he said that China is seriously and sincerely working towards that end. "We are working silently.”
The envoy also talked about debt management, global development initiative, trade and investment issues.
“There is no Chinese debt trap in Bangladesh. There is no Chinese debt trap globally,” he said.
The envoy also said China “never acts against Muslims in the country” and they have no particular reason to hate or discriminate against any group.
“This is totally fake news (what you see in Uyghur). I can tell you with certainty,” he said.

The Chinese envoy said he is personally a “big fan” of India, and he used to travel to many Indian places and made many friends.
He also laid emphasis on resolving all the problems in the region in an “Asian way” and said that is the basic intention of China.
Describing the situation in Europe as “miserable”, Ambassador Jiming said, “Do you want to see what happened in Europe to happen here in our region? I don’t think you want to see that. So, let’s solve all the problems in an Asian way.”
The envoy said his country will continue to work closely with Bangladesh to ensure development, peace and stability in the region.
“China-Bangladesh relations have grown healthily and steadily, and (I) foresee a promising outlook. We are ready to work with Bangladesh for a brighter future,” he said.
The envoy said China wants a "peaceful and stable" Bangladesh as “peace and stability” are preconditions for development.
Any problem, therefore, should be resolved in a democratic and peaceful way, he said, adding that China considers Bangladesh as a "very good strategic partner" and continues to improve the relations with it.
The envoy said that China shares the same views like Bangladesh on the Ukraine issue and highlighted the importance of having dialogue and discussion to resolve problems peacefully.
“We both stand with peace and call for appropriate settlement of the concerns of all through diplomatic channels,” he said.

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming has said Bangamata Begum Fazilatun Nesa Mujib 8th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge, over the Kacha river in Pirojpur’s Bekutia, will give a strong boost to the development of southern Bangladesh.
“The bridge stands as a perfect illustration of how the integration of Bangladesh’s Vision 2041 perspective plan and the Belt and Road Initiative would benefit the people of Bangladesh and the region beyond,” he said.
Ambassador Li said the bridge directly connects Khulna and Barishal, the two sides of the Kacha River, and provides faster transportation opportunity between Mongla and Payra.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina opened the 1,493-metre bridge today (September 4, 2022).
To continue the tradition of friendship, China is determined to build the 9th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge, Ambassador Li said.

Experts from the two countries are already preparing for feasibility study on the project.
Under the phenomenal leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said, Bangladesh has impressed the world with its fast and steady growth in the past decade, and is graduating from the least developed countries category.
“Despite recent headwinds, Bangladesh’s economy shows significant resilience and is recovering vigorously. The world is witnessing Bangladesh rising from the subcontinent,” said the Chinese envoy.
He said the Chinese dream of the great national rejuvenation and the “Sonar Bangla” dream are well connected. “Let us join hands to realize our dreams together!”
Will expedite Rohingya repatriation efforts through talks: Envoy
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming on Thursday said his country is trying to expedite the Rohingya repatriation efforts through holding talks with Bangladesh and Myanmar.
China always remains beside Bangladesh when it faces any problem, said Ambassador Li while attending a function at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.
Ambassador Li noted that China has been playing a role of “mediator” between Bangladesh and Myanmar during the past five years since the latest crisis happened in Rakhine State of Myanmar and has been working with relevant stakeholders, including UNHCR, to facilitate the early repatriation of the displaced people.

Bangabandhu Exhibition Centre a ‘new icon’ of Dhaka-Beijing fruitful ties: Envoy
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming on Thursday termed the newly-built "Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center" at Purbachal a "new icon” of the fruitful cooperation between Bangladesh and China.
He said it is also a vivid epitome of the friendship between the two peoples, not only in the field of economic and trade cooperation, but also in the fight against the pandemic.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the exhibition centre virtually from her official residence Gonobhaban.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Vice Chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau AHM Ahsan also joined the launching ceremony.
On the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Exhibition Centre was named after him to honor the great contribution of Bangabandhu, said the Chinese envoy.
Dhaka-Beijing political trust continues to deepen: Envoy
Terming China the largest trading partner of Bangladesh, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming on Wednesday said the Bangladesh-China relations have achieved a rapid development.
"The political mutual trust between our two sides has continued to deepen, the cultural exchange and education cooperation as an integral part of our deeply-rooted bilateral relations, have been active and fruitful," he said.
Currently, the envoy said, China has become one of the top destinations for Bangladeshi students to study abroad and students are one of the main cornerstones of the friendship between the two peoples.
"All of you are well aware of the journey to development that our two countries are having together and shoulder to shoulder," said the Ambassador.
China doesn’t attach any political strings to vaccine cooperation: Envoy
China has stressed that it does not attach any political strings or economic calculations to carrying out vaccine cooperation with Bangladesh and other countries.
“The only purpose of China is to make vaccines a global public good that truly serves people’s interests and help the world defeat the pandemic at an early date. To this end, China will take further actions,” said Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Li Jiming on Monday.
While speaking at a signing ceremony of the local production of Sinopharm vaccines in Bangladesh, he said at least three deficits -- distribution deficit, production deficit and cooperation deficit -- need to be addressed.
The Ambassador thanked Bangladesh for respecting science, multilateralism and justice, and said he is sure that their anti-pandemic cooperation will only become stronger and more fruitful, leading to further contribution to the global fight against Covid-19.
