Couple among 4 dead in Gaibandha road accident
Four people, including a couple, were dead and another was injured when a bus rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Gaibandha-Palashbari road at Sakoa Majhipara under Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha district today.
Three of the deceased were identified as Shamim, his wife Shimu Sarkar and Shakil Mia while the identity of the other deceased could not be known immediately.

Masud Rana, officer-in-charge of Palashbari Police Station, said the accident occurred around 7:30 am when a Gaibandha-bound bus hit the CNG-run auto-rickshaw due to poor visibility caused by fog. Three people were dead on the spot and two, including the driver of the CNG, were injured.
Of the injured, the CNG driver died on the way to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.

5 killed in Gazipur road crash
Five people were killed as a bus crashed into a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur on Saturday night, police said.
The deceased were identified as auto rickshaw driver Nazrul Islam, 27, and its four passengers- Mehedi Hasan, 44, Atiqul Islam, 42, Saidul Islam, 27, and Shahin Uddin, 28.
The accident occurred around 10:30 pm when a speeding passenger bus of ‘Itihas Paribahan’ collided with the auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction at Makish Bathan in the upazila, leaving the auto-rickshaw driver and Mehedi dead on spot and three injured, said Abdul Bashar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaliakair police station.
The injured were rushed to Kaliakair Health Complex in critical condition where two of them succumbed to their injuries, said the OC.

Later, another was shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where he was declared dead, said Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kaliakair police station Rahat Akand.
The bodies were handed over to their respective families without post mortem, he added.
Police seized the killer bus but its driver escaped, said the SI.
Road accidents in Bangladesh
As many as 524 people including 73 children were killed and 821 others injured in 467 road accidents across the country in June alone.
Of these, 204 people died in motorbike accidents alone during this period, which is 38.93% of the total fatalities, the Road Safety Foundation said in its latest report released on July 4.
Besides, 107 pedestrians, 86 drivers and their assistants were killed in the accidents.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh witnessed 398 deaths on roads in 319 accidents in just 15 days during journeys before and after Eid-ul-Azha this year.
The accidents and deaths recorded on Bangladesh roads during Eid-ul-Azha were highest in the last 7 years, according to a report prepared by Jatri Kalyan Samiti, a passenger welfare organization.

26-yr-old man killed in city road crash
A rickshaw puller was killed when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw hit his rickshaw in the capital’s Elephant Road area early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Samiul,26, son of Sonahar of Jamalpur district.

The accident occurred around 3:40 am when auto-rickshaw hit the rickshaw in front of Kabab House in the area, leaving Samiul injured.
He was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead, said inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police camp.

2 killed in B’baria road accident
Two people were killed and 2 others injured in a collision between a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Akhaura upazila of Brahmanbaria district on Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as Awal Mia, 50, of Maheshpur village in Nabinagar upazila and Fayez Mia, 45, son of Hekim Bepari of the same village.
However, the identities of the injured could not be known immediately.

Md Shahjalal Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Brahmanbaria Khatihata Highway Police said the Brahmanbaria-bound truck collided with the auto- rickshaw in the morning, leaving two people dead on the spot.
The injured were rushed to a hospital, the OC added.

The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.

2 dead, 4 injured in Brahmanbaria road crash
Two persons were killed and four others injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw veered off the road and plunged into a ditch after a collision with a truck on the Cumilla-Sylhet highway in Brahmanbaria early on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Kawsar Alam, 35, a resident of Cumilla, and his passenger Khul Islam, of Kishoreganj. All the victims were occupants of the auto-rickshaw.

Eye-witnesses said the auto-rickshaw with five passengers plunged into the roadside ditch following a collision with the truck on the high-speed corridor in Kasba upazila, leaving its two occupants dead on the spot and four others injured.
The injured have been admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital, police said.
Md Shahjalal Alam, officer-in-charge of the Khantihata Highway Police, said the bodies was sent to the Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem.

Four of family killed in Cumilla road crash
Four of a family were killed while another was injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Cumilla-Noakhali regional highway on Thursday morning.
The deceased were identified as Bahar Mia, 50, his wife Parul Begum, daughter Jannatul Mawa, and his mother-in-law Golap Nahar. All the victims were occupants of the auto-rickshaw.
The accident occurred around 8am on the high-speed corridor near Kaliacho in Cumilla's Laksham upazila when the BRTC bus hit the auto-rickshaw.

"The impact of the collision was such that it left Bahar and his mother-in-law dead on the spot," said Jasim Uddin, a sub-inspector at the Lalmai outpost of Laksham Highway Police.
Parul and her daughter Jannatul succumbed to their injuries on the way to Cumilla Medical College and Hospital, where the critically injured auto-rickshaw driver is currently undergoing treatment.
Police have seized the killer bus and the auto-rickshaw. However, the bus driver is on the run, said SI Jasim.
Road accidents in Bangladesh
As many as 413 lives were lost and 532 people sustained injuries in 379 road accidents across the country in November last year alone, according to a report of Road Safety Foundation (RSF), a body that campaigns for safer roads.
As per the RSF report, 407 people were killed in 346 road accidents in October 2021.
In November, motorcycle accidents turned out to be the deadliest as those alone caused the deaths of 184 people, which is 44.55% of the total fatalities.

The total number of motorcycle accidents was 158 during the last month, which is 41.68% of the total accidents.
According to the RSF findings, at least 96 pedestrians were killed in road accidents, which account for 23.24% of the total deaths.
The RSF pointed out 10 major reasons behind the increasing number of road accidents -- faulty vehicles, reckless driving, scant regard for traffic rules and poor traffic management being some of them.

Chandpur road crash leaves two dead
Two people were killed and another was injured when a truck rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Chandpur-Cumilla regional highway at Khazuria in Kachua upazila on Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Sohel Mia, 36 and Gokul Sarkar, 32, of Haziganj upazila.
The truck hit the CNG run auto-rickshaw around 10:30 pm, leaving two people dead on the spot and another injured, said Mohiuddin, officer-in-charge of Kachua Police Station.

Injured Ripon was taken to Cumilla Medical College and Hospital.
Vehicular movement on the highway remained suspended for an hour following the incident.
On information, police recovered the bodies.
