5 get death sentence for raping teenage girl in Khulna
A tribunal in Khulna today (September 7, 2022) sentenced five men to death for raping a teenage girl in Khalishpur of the district in 2011.
The death row convicts are-Ali Akbar alias Hridoy, Mehedi Hasan alias Ibu, Sohel, Abdullah and Mohon.
Khulna Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 Judge Abdus Salam Khan pronounced the judgment.

On March 23 in 2011, convict Mohon abducted the girl from the Bihari Camp in Khalishpur and took her to a banana orchard in Charer Haat.
Ali Akbar and some others raped the girl there, leaving her unconscious near the camp.
Later, a case was filed at Khalishpur police station.

On June 20 of the same year, the investigation officer of the case sub-inspector (SI) Kazi Rezaul Karim submitted a chargesheet against the five.
Among the convicts, Sohel, Abdullah and Mohon were tried in absentia.

Noakhali housewife molestation: 13 get 10 years jail
A Noakhali court on Tuesday sentenced 13 people to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment in a case over torturing a housewife after undressing her at Joykrishnapur village in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali district in September last year.
Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge Jainal Abedin handed down the verdict.

The convicts were fined Tk 50,000 each, in default, to suffer three months more imprisonment.
The convicts are Delwar Hossain Dulu, Noor Hossain Badal, Abdur Rahim, Mohammad Ali alias Abul Kalam, Israfil Hossain Miah, Moyeen Uddin Sazu, Shamsuddin Sumon, Abdur Rob Chowdhury, Mostafizur Rahman, Jamal Uddin, Noor Hossain Russel, Mizanur Rahman Tareq and Anwar Hossain Sohag.
Among them, Abdur Rob, Mostafizur Rahman, Jamal Uddin and Mizanur Rahman were tried in absentia.
Earlier on October 4 in 2020, the victim filed the case against nine people of ‘Delwar Bahini’ at Begumganj Model Police Station.
The case was later handed over to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI). The PBI farmed charges against 13 persons in the case.
The victim was molested by some local miscreants of ‘Delwar Bahini’ at Ward No. 9 of Eklashpur Union on September 2 in 2020.
The incident came to light after a video of the barbaric incident went viral on the internet.

The miscreants tortured the housewife after undressing her and captured it on phone. The video sent a shock wave throughout the country, triggering protests everywhere.
The victim filed two cases accusing nine people 33 days after the incident.
One of the cases was filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and another under the Pornography Control Act.
Earlier on October 4, the court sentenced Delwar an Abul Kalam to life imprisonment in a case filed over raping the woman.

Rangpur school teacher gets life term for raping student
A Rangpur court on Thursday sentenced a school teacher to life time imprisonment in a case filed over raping a ninth grader last year.
Rangpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Judge Md Rokonuzzaman pronounced the verdict and fined the convict Tk one lakh.

The lifer is Monwarul Islam Mithu, 40, English teacher of Suger Mills High School in Shyampur.
According to the case statement, on June 30, 2020, the class IX student of Suger Mills High School met Monwarul Islam near Shyampur Railway station on her way home from a coaching center around 10 am.
Monwarul asked the student to go to school immediately for filling up information form for students.
When she went to school she found no one else there except Monwarul who raped her in a classroom.

Monwarul later threatened the girl not to inform the matter to others.
The same day the girl filed a complaint at the Badarganj police station with the help of her family members and then police filed a case.
On November 12, 2020, investigation officer in the case submitted the charge sheet in the case.

Banani double rape case: Shafat, 4 other accused acquitted
A Dhaka court on Thursday acquitted all five accused, including Shafat Ahmed, from the charges of raping two girls in a hotel in the capital’s Banani area in 2017.
Safat Ahmed is son of Apan Jewellers co-owner Dildar Ahmed Selim.
The other accused are Nayeem Ashraf, Safat’s friend Sadman Sakif, Shafat's driver Billal Hossain and bodyguard Rahmat Ali.

Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 Judge Begum Kamrunnahar passed the acquittal order in presence of the accused as the prosecution failed to prove the charges brought against them’.
The delivery of the judgment was rescheduled twice-on October 12 and October 27.
On June 7, 2017, investigation officer of the case Inspector Ismot Ara submitted a charge sheet to the court against five accused.
On June 19, the tribunal accepted the charge sheet.
On May 6, 2017, one of the two abused girls filed the case with Banani Police Station against five persons including Shafat and Sadman Sakif.

According to the case statement, Safat and Nayeem raped the plaintiff and her friend on March 28 at The Raintree Dhaka in the capital's Banani area while the three others assisted them.
The victims were acquainted with Safat through Sadman two weeks before the incident and they were tricked in attending a grand program at the hotel on that day, said the statement.

Lalmonirhat tribunal judge dies of Covid-19
Lalmonirhat Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Ferdous Ahmed died of Covid-19 on Wednesday night.
He breathed his last at 8:30 pm while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka, said Special Officer of Supreme Court Md Saifur Rahman.
Justice Ferdous Ahmed, 58, went to Lalmonirhat on June 1 and returned to Dhaka on June 4 after completing his judicial activities. Later, he tested positive for coronavirus and got admitted to CMH.
