Two prisoners died at Chattogram Medical College and Hospital on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Abdus Shukkur, 60 and Rafiqul Islam, 73. Jailer Md Emran Hossain Mia of Chattogram Central Jail, said Abdus Shukkur, a resident of Chandgaon Police Station, fell sick around 12:55 am at the central jail. Abdus Shukkur was sentenced to two years' imprisonment in a narcotics case on October 17, 2021. Meanwhile, Rafiqul Islam, an under-trial prisoner and resident of Halisohor area, fell sick on Sunday night. He was also sent to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital where he died in the night. Rafiqul was arrested in a case filed over a clash between two groups.

One of the accused in Rohingya leader Mohibullah murder case has died at Chattogram central jail. The deceased was identified as Moulovi Jokoria, 53, son of late Abdul Karim of Block D/8 in Rohingya camp of Ukhiya upazila in Cox’s Bazar district. Chattogram Jail’s Deputy Jailer Monir Hossain said Jokoria was a cancer patient who died inside the jail on Friday night. Moulovi Jokoria, who allegedly gave fatawa to remove Mohibullah from the earth just a week before of the murder, was arrested in connection with the murder. Police in a drive arrested a prisoner, who escaped from Chattogram jail, from Ballakandi Char area in Raipur upazila of Narsingdi district.

The jailer and the deputy jailer of Chattogram Central Jail have been withdrawn  on charge of negligence of duty as a prisoner went missing from the jail on Saturday.

A football player from Ghana, who was in jail in a drug case, died in police custody at Chattogram Medical College Hospital on Friday.
