President asks UGC to hold single admission test at all public universities for 2023-24 session
Bangladesh's President Abdul Hamid, who is also chancellor of universities, has directed the University Grants Commission (UGC) to take necessary measures for holding a single admission test for all public universities for the 2023-24 session.
A media release signed by Md Mahmudul Alam, joint secretary of secondary and higher education department of the Education Ministry, conveyed the directive today.

The release also said the public universities that earlier held admission test in the cluster method for 2022-23 session were asked to complete the admission process.

DU holds 'Gha' unit admission test
Dhaka University (DU) on Saturday held the admission test of the 'Gha' unit under the Faculty of Social Science for the 2021-22 academic session.
The test was held at designated examination centres across the eight divisions of the country. The test began at 11am for a duration of one-and-a-half hours.
"This year, we decided to hold the exams in all eight divisions of the country to minimise the sufferings of the candidates and their parents," said DU vice-chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman after visiting an exam center of Social science faculty building.

"Social Science faculty dean Prof. Dr. Zia Rahman coordinating the unit exam and vice-chancellors of the respective universities are helping us in this regard. I was told that the exams were held smoothly," he said.
Asked about QS University ranking position, he said, "We have no attention on ranking. We want to improve the quality of education, expand the field of basic research and the parameters of ranking in the international arena like research, foreign students, foreign teachers, the overall learning environment, the quality of life of students and we need to address it soon."
He said, "If we can build a university in the light of all these indicators, then the place of our expectations in the international arena will be clearer. It is very difficult to expect good ranking position improving the parameters that are used for ranking."

59 students are competing for every seat of social science faculty as 78,045 students have applied for 1,337 seats in 'Gha' unit under the faculty of Social Science.
'Gha' unit exam is a group changing exam in which students of all groups (Science, Commerce and Arts) can participate.

BUET holds preliminary admission test
The preliminary admission test of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology(BUET) for academic session 2021-22 was held today.
Of all the applicants, 17034 students were allowed in the preliminary test against a total of 1279 seats of 12 departments under 5 faculties. The exam was held in two shifts.
"More than 95% students attended the test," a BUET press release said.
BUET Vice-Chancellor Dr Satya Prasad Majumdar and pro- Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdul Jabbar Khan visited various centers during the exam. President of the Admission Committees and Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Dr. Abu Siddique along with other teachers of BUET were also present at the time.

DU admission tests to start from June 3
The admission tests of University of Dhaka for academic session 2021-22 will begin from June 3 with ‘Ga’ unit enrolment test.
‘Kha’ unit intake test will be held on June 4 (Saturday).
The ‘Ka’ unit entry test will be held on June 10 and ‘Gha’ unit test on June 11.
The MCQ test for ‘Cha’ unit under Fine Arts faculty will be held on June 17.
The decisions were taken in a deans committee meeting held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury senate building on Wednesday.
However, GPA score conditions for admission applicants have also been eased this time.
The students who have science background in SSC/ equivalent and HSC/ equivalent exams can apply for ‘Ka’ unit entry test if they have a total of minimum GPA 8 with the condition that he/she must have at least 3.50 in both SSC/HSC or equivalent exams.

The students of Arts and Commerce background in HSC or equivalent exams can apply for ‘Kha’, ‘Ga’ and ‘Gha’ unit entry tests if they have a total of minimum GPA 7.5 with the condition that he/she must have at least 3.00 in both SSC/HSC or equivalent exams.
Applicants, having science background, can apply for ‘Gha’ unit entry test only if they obtain a total of at least GPA 8.00 with the condition that he/she secured at least 3.50 in both SSC/HSC or equivalent exams.
However, the application fee for the entry test has been increased from taka 650 to Taka 1000.
Applicants can apply for the entry test from April 20 to May 11.
All the exams will be taken on a total of 120 marks of which 20(10+10) marks will be counted from SSC and HSC GPA, 60 marks from MCQ exam and 40 marks from written exam,
The tests will be held from 11 am to 12.30 pm on the scheduled dates.
Following the practice of previous years, DU authority has decided to take the exams in divisional cities of the country to reduce the suffering of students and parents.
Asked about easing the conditions of GPA for the applicants, DU Pro VC ASM Maksud Kamal said "From our previous experiences we came to know that GPA does not necessarily prove the excellence of a student. There are lots of instances which show that low GPA achievers obtained better score than higher GPA achievers in the admission test exam."

RU to include students failed in admission tests
The Rajshahi University authority has decided to admit the children and grand-children of the university teachers and staff under ward quote, even if they could not secure the minimum marks to pass the entrance examinations.
According to the admission circular, the admission seekers must secure 40 marks out of 100 in the admission test to get admitted to the university.
According to the new decision, the admission seekers under the ward quota, who secured 30 out of 100 marks in the entrance exams, would be able to get admitted at the university.

The decision came from a meeting of the admission test sub-committee that was held on Monday where university vice-chancellor Professor Golam Sabbir Sattar chaired.
Agriculture faculty dean professor Abdul Alim said, A number of students cancel their admission at the university and get admitted to other universities, that’s why hundreds of seats are left vacant each year.
We have decided to include the admission seekers under ward quota to fill the vacant seats who secured at least 30 out of 100 marks in the entrance exams, he added.

A total of 1 lakh 27 thousand 647 applicants across the country applied for the admission test against around 4,137 seats in 59 departments and 2 institutes under three units, this year.

Dhaka University ‘Cha’ unit admission test results on Sunday
The results of Dhaka University’s ‘Cha’ unit admission test under the Fine Arts Faculty for the 2020-21 academic session will be published on Sunday.
Vice-Chancellor of the university Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman will announce the results at 12.00 pm at Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury virtual classroom, said a DU press release on Saturday.

Admission test results can be checked through official admission website admission.eis.du.ac.bd. It can also be checked by sending mobile SMS as per the instruction mentioned in the admit card.
The admission test of ‘Cha unit’ was held on October 9 where a total of 15,496 admission seekers vied against 135 available seats.

DU holds ‘D’ unit admission test
Dhaka University (DU) on Saturday held the admission test of the 'D' unit under the social science faculty for the 2020-21 academic session.
The test was held in eight divisional cities across the country. The test began at 11am for a duration of 30 minutes.
DU Vice Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman, pro-VC (administration) Prof Dr Samad, and pro-VC (administration) Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal visited a number of exam centers.
This year, 74 students are fighting for a single seat.
From October 1, DU started conducting its admission tests through a unit of the Science Group.
This year, a total off 1 lakh 15 thousand 881 students applied for the DU unit admission tests. Some 1,570 seats are up for grabs.
The exam centres outside Dhaka are: Chittagong University, Rajshahi University, Khulna University, Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet, Barishal University, and Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur.

RU admission tests begin
Rajshahi University authority started admission test for the 2020-21 academic session on Monday.
'C' unit 1st shift exams started at 9.30 am and ended at 10.30 am. The 2nd and 3rd shift examinations will be held from 12pm to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 4pm respectively.

According to the university authorities, a total of 44,194 candidates applied for 'C' unit, 43,558 for 'A' unit, and 39,895 for 'B' unit.
RU pro-vice-chancellor professor Sultan Ul Islam said, “We have already completed all the preparations for the admission test. 'C' unit exams have started today.”

'A' unit exams will be held Tuesday and 'B' unit exams on October 06.
Rajshahi University authority decided to allow female candidates to stay in the female residential halls but no guardians are allowed there.

HC questions exclusion of SSC-2016 passed students from admission test
The High Court on Monday issued a rule questioning the legality of excluding students who passed SSC in 2016 from the cluster admission test of 20 general and science and technology universities.
A bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after a preliminary hearing on a writ petition filed by 12 SSC students who passed in 2016.
Barrister Anik R Haque and Advocate Saiful Islam Sohel presented the petitioner’s side while Deputy Attorney General Bipul Bagmar stood for state.

For academic year 2020-2021 admission, 20 universities recently issued two notices on their admission test in cluster method.
The notice, issued on March 3, said students who passed SSC and equivalent exams from 2016 to 2018 and HSC and equivalent exams passed students of 2019 and 2020 are allowed to participate in the cluster admission test.
Later on March 31, another notice was issued where 2017 was mentioned excluding the students who passed in 2016.

Following this, a student named Abir Hasan and 11 others who passed SSC exam in 2016 filed a writ petition at the High Court challenging the legality of the exclusion.
