3 motorcyclists die in bus-motorbike collision in Gaibandha
Three motorcyclists were killed and two pedestrians injured as their motorcycle collided with a bus on Dhaka-Rangpur highway in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha district Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as motorcyclist Bidyut, 28, and his pillion riders Subhash, 27, and Sumon, 27, of the district.

Masud Rana, officer-in-charge (OC) of Palashbari police station, said the Nilphamari-bound bus of ‘Al Baraka Paribahan’ crashed into the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction around 8am, leaving Bidyut dead on spot.
The two pillion riders succumbed to their injuries at Palashbari Upazila Health Complex while two pedestrians were undergoing treatment there, the OC added.

2 motorcyclists killed in N’ganj
Two motorcyclists were killed when a vehicle hit their motorbike on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway near Kanchpur Bridge early Sunday, said police.
The deceased were identified as Srabon Reza, 18, son of Selim Reza and Amir Hamza, 18, son of Abdur Rashid Bhuiya of Siddhirganj area.
AKM Sharfuddin, in-charge of Shimrail Police Station said the accident occurred in the dead of night when an unknown vehicle hit the motorbike carrying two people, leaving them injured.

Later, they were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital and a private hospital in Dhaka where they succumbed to their injuries early Sunday.
Police are trying to identify the driver of the vehicles, said Nabir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kanchpur Highway Police Station.

Two motorcyclists killed in Manikganj road crash
Two youths were killed and another was injured in a road accident at Kaliganga Bridge of Manikganj on Tuesday night.
The deceased were identified as Juel Mia, an honours third-year student of Debendra University College and his friend motorcycle businessman Ashiqur Rahman, residents of Rathura village under Ghior upazila of the district.
Eyewitnesses said a Selfie Paribahan bus ran over a motorcycle from behind on the Dhaka-Aricha highway leaving two motorcyclists Juel Mia and Ashiqur Rahman dead on the spot and injuring another around 10:30pm.
Injured motorcyclist Hasibur Rahman was taken to Munnu Medical College Hospital.

Following the accident, an agitated mob vandalized a few buses of the Selfie Paribahan. On information, police brought the situation under control by charging batons.
Later, agitated people torched a bus at Baniajuri around 11:30pm. Being informed, firefighters doused the bus blaze.
Ghior police station officer-in-charge Riazuddin Ahmed Biplab confirmed the matter to UNB.

2 motorcyclists injured in first accident on Padma Bridge die
Two young motorcyclists who were critically injured in an accident on the Padma Bridge on its very first day are dead, according to police.
The deceased were identified as Md Alamgir, 24, and Fazlu, 25, by Bacchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Outpost.
The first known accident on the Padma Bridge occurred when they were crossing the bridge on a motorcycle around 8pm Sunday.
Later, pedestrians rushed them to DMCH where they were declared dead at 10 pm.

The bodies were kept in the hospital morgue for autopsies, Bacchu said.
The Padma Bridge saw a huge pressure of traffic and a crowd of onlookers Sunday, creating tailbacks on both sides of the long-awaited bridge.
Hundreds of vehicles including buses, trucks, private cars, motorbikes, and ambulances were seen waiting in front of the two toll plazas at Mawa and Nowdoba points of Shariatpur.
They were not maintaining queues and trying to cross each other haphazardly in front of the toll plazas.
The Bridges Division banned motorcycles on the Padma Bridge from Monday.

2 killed in Cumilla road accident
Two motorcyclists were killed in a road accident on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Nazira Bazar area of Cumilla's Burichang upazila on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Morshed Alam, son of Khorshed Alam of Burichang upazila and Anand, son of Latif Miah of the same area.

The accident occurred around 1.15 pm as their motorcycles collided with an unidentified long-haul vehicle heading towards Chattogram. Both of them fell off the bike and died on the spot, said police sources.
Mainamati Highway Police have recovered the bodies and seized the motorcycle, said the sources.

Wear quality helmets while on the streets, IGP tells motorbikers
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed on Thursday urged motorcyclists not to drive without wearing quality helmets.
The IGP made the call while speaking at the launching of UN Standard Helmet in Bangladesh organized by BRAC at a hotel in the capital.
The IGP said the number of different types of vehicles on the roads is increasing as the country is developing. Road safety is also becoming a challenge day by day.
Referring to study, he said that 70 per cent of the victims of road accidents are pedestrians. On the other hand, most of the motorcycle victims are young people between the ages of 20 and 30. They are the productive manpower of the country.

Benazir said at least 1,494 incidents of road accidents occurred in the country in the last six months. Among them, 478 were of motorcycle accidents. On the other hand, 336 people were killed and 305 injured in those motorcycle accidents during the period.
Of those victims, 239 had helmets, while among the injured people, 224 did not have helmets. This is an aspect of not having a helmet. On the other hand, the quality of the helmet, he added.
The police chief said that there is no certification authority for helmets in our country. He emphasized on Bangladesh importing European Union or US standard helmets or assembling them in the country.

The IGP said many companies in the country are now producing motorcycles. He appealed to the motorcycle manufacturers to fix the package price by adding helmets to the motorcycles. He also demanded an end to the import of low quality helmets.
He said that if a person is killed or injured in a road accident, it is not only the loss of a family but also the economy of the country.
