8 arrested while trying to rob a RAB vehicle in Narayanganj: RAB
Eight members of a robbery gang have been arrested while trying to take over a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) vehicle in Narayanganj.
RAB 11 Company Commander and Deputy Director Monirul Alam confirmed the information at a press conference at its local camp in Kalirbazar area of the city this afternoon.
“Two teams of RAB 11 were on patrol duty on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in plain clothes last night. At that time, one team got stuck in traffic in the Char Bausia area under Gazaria Police Station in Munshiganj,” he said.

“A group of armed robbers, thinking the Rab vehicle to be a normal passenger car, surrounded it. At one stage, the robbers attacked the car, in return, RAB men in plain clothes chased and arrested eight people, including the leader of the gang,” said the RAB deputy director.
“Several locally-made weapons were seized from the robbers at the time. Legal action, including a case, is under way against them,” he added.
During primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed to committing more than 50 robberies on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in the last two years. There are also multiple cases against them at different police stations, said RAB.

‘Robber met JMB members in jail and became leader of new militant group’
Arrested council (Shura) member and head of the armed wing of a new militant group, Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya, met JMB militants while in jail on robbery charges and became a top leader of the new group after he was released.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of Rab’s legal and media wing, revealed the information while briefing the media today over the arrest of two members of the new militant group yesterday from a Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar.
He said Rab interrogated Masukur Rahman alias Ronobir alias Masud and Bashar after arresting them yesterday and got some important tip-offs.
Ronobir’s associate, Bashar, is a bomb-making expert.
Ronobir used to work at a post office. He also led an armed robbery gang and got arrested.
“During his time in prison, he met the leaders and activists of JMB and decided to join forces with them,” said the Rab officer.

He continued to visit JMB members in jail after his release. He had contact with their families too, he added.
In 2017, he met Rakib, a Shura member and later head of Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya’s finance and media wing, and became a founding member.
Members of Rab yesterday (January 23, 2023) arrested Ronobir and Bashar after a gunfight at Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar.
Rab arrested the duo along with arms and explosives from a den in the camp following the gunfight.

6 Rohingya robbers detained with foreign arms in Cox’s Bazar
Members of Coast Guard (CG) detained six Rohingya robbers with 14 foreign arms, 486 rounds of bullets and 20,000 pieces of Yaba pills from the estuary of Naf River and Bay of Bengal on Tuesday.
Lieutenant Commandant Md Mohiuddin of the CG Teknaf station, at a press conference, said acting on a tip-off, they came to know that a group of the Rohingya robbers was taking preparations for committing robbery in the estuary of the Naf River and Bay of Bengal.

A team of the CG conducted a drive in the estuary and detained the Rohingya robbers with the arms, he said.
With information revealed from the detainees another drive was also conducted at Kharer Island and several other arms and drugs were recovered, the CG officer said.
In the primary interrogation, the detainees admitted that they had been involved with the robbery for a long time, he said, adding that they were residents of Ukhia and Teknaf camps.

The Rohingyas set up a den at the isolated Kharer Island to carry out criminal activities smoothly to dodge the eyes of law enforcers, he added.

‘Robber’ lynched in Gazipur
A suspected robber was killed in a lynch-mob attack at Rajendrapur in Gazipur district in the small hours of Saturday, said police.
The deceased was identified as Rakib, 27, son of Alamgir H ossain of Joydebpur upazila. He was wanted in four robbery cases.
Mahtab Uddin, officer-in-charge of Joydebpur Police Station, said garment worker Hashi Akter, 19 along with her colleague Ilias Hossain was heading towards Rajendrapur Haldoba area to visit one their colleague’s house in the evening.

When they reached near Rakkhitpara, a group of miscreants intercepted them and took Hashi to Rakkhitpara forest after beating Ilias up mercilessly.
Later, they tied Hashi to a tree and tried to realise ransom.
At one stage, Ilias informed the matter to the local people and sought help.
Local people then besieged the forest and caught Rakib around 12:30 am while the others managed to flee the scene. They also gave him a good thrashing, leaving him injured.

They also gouged out the eyes of Rakib and broke his two legs.
On information, police rescued Hashi and Rakib and took him to Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Hashi lodged a complaint with Joydebpur Police at night.

Six robbers held in city
Sleuths of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch claimed to have busted a gang of robbers, with the arrest of its six members on Monday.
The arrestees have been identified as Md. Sujan Hawladar,32, Md. Rabiul Awal Robi ,19, Md. Babu Jewel ,22, Md. Rony, 19, Md. Ekram Ali, 33 and Md. Ibrahim Mizhi 20.
Farrukh Hossain, deputy commissioner (media) of DMP said the detectives conducted a special drive at the city’s Mohammadpur area and nabbed them as they were planning to commit a robbery in the area.
During the drive, the law enforcers also recovered a gun, a CNG and some local weapons from their possession, he added.

During the preliminary interrogation, the detainees confessed their involvement in the robberies in Dhamrai, South Keraniganj and Munshiganj.
A case was filed with Mohammadpur police in this connection.

Mistaken for robber, man beaten to death in Gaibandha
A man who went to meet his ex-wife in Gaibandha was allegedly lynched to death by an angry mob Thursday on suspicion of being a robber.
The deceased was identified as Sakhawat Hossain, son of Abdur Razzak of Gaibandha town.
Police said that local residents mistook Sakhawat as a robber and thrashed him to death when he went to Tari village in Kholahati of Sadar upazila to meet his former wife in the early hours of the day.

Masudur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Gaibandha Sadar Police Station, said, "His ex-wife Shiuli's husband Bayejid Islam came to know that Sakhawat had come to meet her secretly in Tari and alerted locals."
The residents thrashed the victim, suspecting him to be a robber, leaving him critically injured, said the OC.
Sakhawat was rushed to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital where he died of his injuries. "Shiuli and her husband have been detained in connection with the death," the OC added.

‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’ in Chattogram
A suspected robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rab members in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Md Alamgir alias ‘Alam Dakat’, 45, a member of a robber gang in Bashkhali upazila.

Rab sources said when a team was patrolling Gondamara village in the upazila in the early hours of Wednesday some miscreants suddenly opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back.
At one stage, Alam was caught in the line of fire while the gang members managed to flee the scene.
Later, he was later taken to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Four firearms, three sharp weapons, 13 bullets were recovered from the spot.
Chattogram Rab Assistant Director (Media) Nurul Absar said there are nine cases against Alamgir with different police stations of Chattogram including Banshkhali police station.

3 members of robber gang held with arms
Detectives have arrested three suspected members of an inter-district robber gang along with arms in connection with robbery on Mouchak Flyover in the capital and Sanarpar area in Narayanganj district.
The arrestees are Jalil Molla, Riyaj and Dipu.

Additional Commissioner (DB) AKM Hafeez Akhter at a press briefing at DMP Media Center said detectives conducted drives and arrested them from different areas in Dhaka city, Savar and Jashore districts on Wednesday.
Two foreign pistols used in the robbery, 50 rounds of bullets, two motorcycles and Tk 1 lakh cash were seized from their possession.
A case has been filed at Kotwali police station over the seizure of arms, said the official.

Earlier on August 28, six robbers followed a businessman's car on a motorcycle when he left Nihon Money Exchange in Motijheel with Tk 60 lakh. Later, the robbers stopped the car on Mouchak flyover and snatched the money after firing two rounds of blank shots.
On August 29, a case was filed in this regard at Ramna Model Police Station.
On September 4, the same gang robbed Tk 25 lakh from another businessman at Sanarpar in Siddhirganj of Narayanganj after following him from the city’s Motijheel area. A pedestrian was shot by the robbers as he tried to resist the snatching.

Police said Detectives of Ramna Zonal Team started investigating the two incidents of robbery.
It was found in investigation that this group of robbers used to target people in the money exchange area who carry a large amount of money.
The information of the targeted persons was given to their associates and when they reached a convenient place they snatched his valuables and money at gun point.

‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with Rab in Gazipur
A suspected robber was killed in a 'gunfight' with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Satchungipar in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur district early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Parvez Ahmed, ringleader of inter-district robber gang.

Pervez was wanted in 23 criminal cases, said Mushfiqul Rahim Tushar, assistant director of Rab-1 (media).
Tipped off, a team of Rab-1 conducted an anti-narcotics drive in the area around 1 am.

Sensing the presence of the Rab personnel, Parvez and his two associates opened fire on Rab men, forcing them to fire back.
At one stage, Pervez was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while the two others managed to flee the scene.

Later, the body was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College and Hospital.

2 ‘robbers’ killed in Habiganj lynch-mob attack
Two suspected robbers were killed in a lynch-mob attack at Gunipur in Lakhai upazila of Habiganj district early Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Hamid, 42, of Dharmandal village of Brahmanbaria district and Humayun Mia, 40 of Madhabpur upazila in the district.
Mohiuddin Sumon, officer-in-charge of Lakhai Police Station, said a group of robbers numbering 9/10 swooped on the house of one Jalal Mia around 1:30 am and kept the house inmates hostages at gunpoint.

Sensing presence of the robbers, Jalal informed the matter to his neighbours over phone.
Later, local people encircled the house and managed to catch two robbers while the others managed to flee the scene.

Police recovered the bodies.
