Bus helper burnt to death as vehicle set on fire in Dhaka’s Demra
A 22-year-old assistant of a bus driver burned to death after the Asim Paribahan bus was set on fire by miscreants in Dhaka’s Demra area early Sunday (October 29, 2023).
The incident happened at around 3 am on Sunday, said Demra Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Saidur Rahman.

The deceased was identified as Md Naim, 22, son of Alam Chowkidar of Barishal’s Kotwali upazila. Naim used to live in Demra’s Hajinagar area.
The driver, identified as Robiul, 25, has sustained burn injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
SI Saidur said the bus was parked on the side of the road during the incident and both the driver and helper were sleeping inside.

The identities of the miscreants are yet to be ascertained, the police official said.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford Hospital) for autopsy.

Couple burnt to death in fire from gas cylinder leak in city
A couple was burnt to death in a fire that broke out due to gas cylinder leak at Syednagar in Bhatara area of the city early Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Majid Shikdar, 70 and Taslima Begum, 50.
Md Rajon, sub-inspector of Bhatara Police Station, said local people saw fire in the house of the couple and informed firefighting units early in the Thursday.

On information, a firefighting unit and police rushed to the spot and recovered the charred bodies of the couple.
Police suspected that the fire might have originated from gas leaked from a cylinder in the kitchen.
A general diary was lodged with Bhatara Police in this connection.

Mother arrested over 2 kids burnt to death in Madaripur
The mother of two children, who were burnt to death in a closed house in Sadar upazila of the district on Monday morning, was arrested in this connection from the capital’s Kakrail area on Tuesday.
She was identified as Purnima.
Monwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said an intelligence team led by Sub Inspector Tanmoy Mondal arrested her from the capital and brought back to the police station.
The children—Mithu and Manob--were burnt to death at the closed house at Jhikarhati village of the upazila. They were aged between one and two.

Mother Purnima and their grandmother went out of the house putting the door of the house under lock and key in the morning.
Someone noticed smoke billowing from the house and when neighbours broke open the door, they found the children’s charred bodies inside.
Though the reason behind the fire could not be known immediately, Purnima and her mother fled the area soon after the incident.

Later, the victims’ aunt Ratna Rani filed a case in this connection.

UP member burnt to death in Barguna; case filed
A case has been filed at Betagi police station in Barguna following the murder of a UP member who was locked in his house and burnt to death in the early hours of Tuesday.Manowara Begum, the mother of the victim Farooq Ahmed Shamim, filed a murder case at Betagi police station, accusing unknown persons on Saturday afternoon, Betagi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) M Shah Alam Howladar, said.On Tuesday night, some miscreants locked the door of the bedroom of UP member Farooq of Ward No. 2 at Mayar Ghun Bazar of Sarishamuri Union of Betagi upazila.In this fire, UP member Farooq, his wife Suchi Akter,25 and their two sons Mainul Khan,5, and Samiul Khan,2, sustained burn injuries. Farooq Ahmed received 75 percent burn injuries, added the OC.They were admitted to the Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

Woman burnt to death by ex-husband in Patuakhali
A 26-year-old woman was burnt to death in a fire set allegedly by her ex husband over dowry at Dumki upazila in Patuakhali early Friday.
Police said the deceased was identified as Eti Aktar of the district.
Locals said Eti’s former husband Jalil, 32, came to her house in Dhoparhat village in the small hours of Friday and set her on fire while she was sleeping.

Eti divorced Jalil few days ago as he used to torture her for dowry money, according to the locals.
Abdul Salam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dumki police station, said the body was sent to the local hospital morgue for an autopsy.
A case has been filed in this regard. Efforts are on to nab the killer, said the OC.

10-month old burnt to death in Chandpur fire
A 10 months old baby girl was burnt to death in sleep as a fire gutted three houses at Bishnupur union in Chandpur sadar upazila on Thursday.
The deceased was Nusrat, daughter of Md Joynal Abedin of Sugandhya Safarmali village in the union.
The fire started from the kitchen of Jaynal Abedin’s house at 12:30 pm and within a few minutes it spread to the whole house, said the locals.

Nusrat’s mother went out keeping her daughter asleep in the house when the fire broke out, said the family.
Two units of firefighters brought the flames under control within 30 minutes and recovered the baby’s charred body, said Md Jakir Hossain, Inspector of Chandpur South Fire Service Station.
Nusrat’s body was handed over to Chandpur sadar model police station, he said.

“There was a gas cylinder in the kitchen and electric connections in all the rooms but the origin will be known after an investigation,” said the Fire Service official.
