Police rescued a tortured female homemaker from Road No. 11 of Dhanmondi area on Tuesday after getting a call from the national emergency helpline 999.
“Please save me, they will kill me. Please take me out from here,” the girl said to the police over the phone.

A press release signed by Anwar Sattar, Inspector of Police and Media and Public Relations Officer of National emergency service 999, revealed the matter on Wednesday.
The call was received by 999 call taker Constable Manzoor Rashid. He immediately informed Dhanmondi Police Station to take immediate action to recover the girl.

On receiving the information, a team of Dhanmondi Police Station rushed to the spot and rescued a 20-year-old female homemaker named Sumi.
Later, the girl was handed over to the custody of her parents. The rescued girl and her parents were reluctant to take further legal action or file a written complaint.

Tk 2.53 crore more recovered , 8 arrested over Uttara robbery
Intelligence teams of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have recovered over 2.53 core more and arrested eight people from Dhaka, its adjacent areas and Sunamganj, three days after robbers snatched Tk 11.25 crore of a bank from a private security agency’s vehicle in Turag area of Uttara in the capital on Saturday.
The arrestees are Md. Sanoar Hossain, Md. Eman alias Milan, Md. Akash Madbar, Sagar Madbar, Md. Badrul Alam, Md. Mizanur Rahman, Md. Sonai Mia and Md. Enamul Haque Badsha.
With these, a total 6.43 crore have been recovered so far, said Additional Police Commissioner (Intelligence) Md. Harun-ur-Rashid while talking to journalists at DMP media center on Sunday.
“According to Money Plant Link Private Limited, robbers looted Tk 11.25 crore from a microbus in Turag area while going to deposit it in Dutch Bangla Bank’s booths. After the incident, intelligence department immediately raided Khilkhet area and recovered Tk 3.89 crore on the same day,” said the officer.
Besides, various teams of Intelligence-Mirpur Division and Intelligence-Uttara Division conducted a series of drives in different areas of the capital and Sunamganj and arrested the eight accused. They recovered Tk 2.53 crore, the DMP official added.
A private car, used in the robbery, has also been seized, he said.
“There was no personal security system or armed security personnel with the car during the transportation of Tk 11.25 crore. Most of the time big amount of money is transferred in this way where the security system is not enough to protect the money,” Md. Harun-ur-Rashid said, alleging that the private security agency didn’t inform local police about the money transformation.
Drives are on to recover the remaining snatched money and arrest the rest accused, he said.

Unidentified man's body recovered from Jatrabari pavement
The body of an unidentified man was recovered from a pavement of the capital's Jatrabari Thursday, police said.
The identity of the deceased could not immediately be confirmed.
The man was found lying on the pavement on Kutubkhali Bridge around 7:30am.
On information, police went to the spot and took the man to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he was declared dead around 12:30pm, Mehbah Uddin, sub-inspector of Jatrabari Police Station, said.
Police assumed that the man had been living on the streets and suffering from a long illness. However, the exact cause of his death is pending autopsy and has not been confirmed.

Body of missing Kurigram boat capsize victim recovered
The body of a woman who went missing after an overloaded good-laden boat capsized in the Dudhkumar River in Nageshwari upazila of Kurigram on 16 January has been recovered.
Locals spotted the body floating in the river near the Adarsha Bazar area on Friday noon.
The deceased, Nalo Begum, 49, was wife of Nur Mohammad of Telianikuti village of Bamondanga union.
Abed Ali, Bamondanga union Ward no.8 member, said Nalo Begum was returning home from the eastern side of Murea Ghar that day. The overloaded boat capsized a few minutes after it started its journey. Except for Nalo Begum, all of the passengers managed to swim ashore.
Firefighters continued their search until Tuesday noon.
Tambirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Nageshwari Police Station, said the body was handed over to her family.

Narail boat capsize: Death toll climbs to 5
The death toll from the boat capsize in the Nabaganga River in Narail rose to five with the recovery of one body on Monday.
Sheikh Tasmim Alam, officer-in-charge of Kalia Police Station, said the divers from local fire service fished out the body of Royel Par, son of Imamul Mandal of Bahirdanga village around 3:30 pm.
Another victim identified as Mahmud Sheikh, 41, son of Khalek Sheikh of Kalia village and son-in-law of Enamul Mandal, still remained missing since the boat capsized.
Efforts are on to find Mahmud, he added.

Narail boat capsize: Death toll rises to 4
The death toll from the boat capsize in the Nabaganga River in Narail rose to four with the recovery of two bodies Sunday noon.
Two people drowned and five others went missing after their boat capsized in the river off the coast of Kalia upazila on Friday night.
The bodies of Labu, 32, son of Tuku Chowkidar of Babupur village, and Khanze Sheikh, 55, son of Matiar Sheikh of Jokar Char village, were recovered today.
Fire service divers fished out the bodies from the Nabaganga River in Kalia upazila, said Sheikh Tasmeem Alam, office-in-charge (OC) of Kalia police station.

“The bodies were handed over to the Naval Police. They will take necessary legal steps,” said OC Tasmeem.
Efforts are on to find the others who went missing after the accident, he added.

Cox’s Bazar trawler capsize: 2 more bodies recovered
A Coast Guard team on Sunday fished out the bodies of two more fishermen from the Bay of Bengal, two days after a fishing trawler carrying 19 fishermen capsized amid inclement weather.
The deceased were identified as Anwar Hossain and Nurul Islam.
Local fishermen spotted the bodies at Najirartek Channel of the Bay in the afternoon and informed the coast guard, said Selim Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Cox’s Bazar Sadar police station.
So far, seven bodies have been recovered from the Bay, he added.
On Sunday morning, coast guard members recovered the bodies of three fishermen from Maheshkhali Sonadia channel.
They were Hossain Ahmad, Azizul Haque and Mohammad Absar, residents of Sadar upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

Another dead dolphin recovered from Halda River
Another dead dolphin was found floating in the Halda river in Chattogram on Thursday morning.
The decomposed body of the seven feet long dolphin weighing 60 kg was recovered from near Ajimer Ghat area in Raozan upazila, said Abdus Samad Shikder, Raozan Upazila Nirbahi officer
With this, three dead dolphins have been recovered from Halda in a week, he said.

Earlier on Wednesday noon, another dead dolphin came floating near the same area with a part of it head injured.
On July 14, another eight feet long dolphin carcass weighing 120 kgs was recovered from Burisorta canal connected with the Halda River.
“From September, 2017, a total of 38 dead dolphins have been recovered from Halda river till date. Along with the two recovered from Karnaphuli River the total number stands at 40,” said Dr Manjurul Kibria, Professor of Zoology department in Chattogram University and coordinator of Halda Research Center.

He said according to a research conducted in 2020, there were 127 dolphins in the country. “If effective steps are not taken to conserve them soon there will be no Dolphin in Halda in future,” he added.

Body of missing REB officer recovered from Haor in Kishoreganj
Body of a Rural Electrification Board (REB) officer, who went missing in a haor faced with with a heavy current while fishing Monday, was recovered in the district Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Hossain, son of Nur Mohammad at Char Jabbar union in Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali district. He was assistant enforcement coordinator (ANC) of Mithamoin zonal office in Kishoreganj Palli Bidyut Samity.
Kalindra Nath Goldar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mithamoin police station, said the REB officer went to a Haor near Itna-Mithamoin-Astagram road to catch fish with net around 6 pm Monday.
A heavy current took him away when he threw the net in the Haor as the net was tied with his hand, the OC said.

On information, divers of fire service and civil defense rushed to the spot and carried out the salvation work but failed to find him initially.
The divers finally were able to find body of the missing officer some 200 meters away from the road Tuesday, the OC added.

Bodies of two siblings recovered in Lakshmipur
Bodies of two siblings were recovered from a waterbody in Nabbar Char area under Lakshmipur’s Sadar upazila early Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Samia, 10, and Tajmul, 7. They were the children of Sujan Dali, a farmer of the area.
According to locals, Sujan and his neighbor Akkas Bepari had been at loggerhead for long over a piece of land. A case is also ongoing over this issue.
Sujan was long receiving threats from Akkas and his people.

On Saturday afternoon, Sujan went to a nearby shop with his three children by a boat. He kept his elder son with him and sent his other two kids to home with the boat.
The water of the river started to rise and the two kids went missing while returning home.
After searching for some hours, their blood-strained bodies were found in a waterbody near Sujan’s house.
Palash Kanti Nath, Additional Superintendent of Lakshmipur police, said that the bodies were sent to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
“Necessary steps will be taken after investigating the incident,” said Palash.
Blood on the deceased’s bodies has created suspicion among the locals. Sujan alleged that the kids didn’t drown, rather they were killed by his rival group.
