Rains likely in Mymensingh, Sylhet; Heat wave to prevail in Dhaka, other districts
Rain or thunder showers is likely at one or two places over Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions with hails at isolated places in 24 hours from 9 am on Wednesday, said the Bangladesh Metrological Department .
However, the prevailing heat wave condition in different parts of the country is likely to continue, it said.
According to the bulletin, “Severe heat wave is sweeping over Dinajpur, Rajshshi, Pabna and Chuadanga districts and mild to moderate heat wave is lashing Dhaka and Barishal divisions and the rest part of Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and the districts of Panchagarh, Rangpur, Nilphamari, Moulvibazar, Rangamati and Bandarban and it may continue.”

Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.
The country’s maximum temperature was recorded at 42 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi on Tuesday while country’s minimum temperature was recorded at 22.4 degrees Celsius in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar district on Wednedsay.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
A trough of westerly low lies over West Bengal and adjoining area. Seasonal low lies over South Bay.

First nor’wester of season likely Wednesday
A light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and the regions of Cumilla, Jashore and Kushtia in the next 24 hours from 6pm on Tuesday.
Md Shahinur Alam, a meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), told UNB on Tuesday night.
A nor'wester is also likely to lash parts of Bangladesh with the speed of 60 to 80 kilometer per hour within the time, the meteorologist said.
Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, he said.
On the other hand, the Agriculture Ministry in a media release said the light to moderate rain is likely to occur in all districts from March 17- 22.
In the release Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) provided some instructions for farmers.
The instructions includes refraining from using sewerage, fertilizers and insecticides during the period, harvesting the ripped crops soon and reserving in dry spaces among others.
After the gusty rain, the farmers are asked to use fertilizers and insecticides as per the instructions.
A heatwave is sweeping over the parts of the country for the last a few days.
Nor'wester or the Kalbaishakhi occurs in India and Bangladesh, often with violent hurricane-speed winds and the pre-monsoon nor'wester is caused by heavy convection for excessive heat.

Another danger that has come to the fore in recent years is lightning accompanying the nor'westers, that have taken scores of lives in recent years. In 2016, 42 people were killed in a single day of nor'westers across the country.

Mild heatwave sweeps Bangladesh
A mild heatwave is sweeping parts of the country with sporadic rains doing little to ease the mercury levels, the Met office said on Thursday.
“Mild heatwave is sweeping through the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajgonj, Khulna, Satkhira, Jashore, Chuadanga, Cumilla and Bhola, and it may abate from some places,” the weather department said in its bulletin.
Besides, Light to moderate rains or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty winds is likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions; at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka and Chattogram divisions and at one or two places over Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over northern part of the country," it added.
Rainfall activity may continue.

Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, as per the bulletin.
The weather office recorded the highest rainfall of 173mm in Tetulia of Rangpur division in 24 hours till 6am on Thursday.
The highest temperature was recorded at 37 degrees Celsius in Tarash of Rajshahi division, while the lowest temperature was recorded at 22.8 degrees in Rajarhat of Rangpur division.
The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh.
One of its associated troughs extends up to the Northwest Bay.
Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and weak to moderate elsewhere over North Bay, reads the bulletin.

“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Dhaka, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country,” the department said in its bulletin Monday morning.
Day temperature may rise slightly over western part and it may remain nearly unchanged elsewhere over the country. Night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, it added.

The weather office recorded the highest rainfall at 81mm in Patuakhali of Barishal division in 24 hours till 6am on Monday.
The highest temperature was recorded at 33 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi, while the lowest temperature was recorded at 24 degree Celcius in Sitakunda.
The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh.

Early monsoon showers are likely to drench parts of the country in the next 24 hours, the weather department has said.
“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, at a few places over Rajshahi and Barishal divisions and at one or two places over Khulna division with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country,” the Met office said in its bulletin.

The trough of westerly low lies over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas. Southwest monsoon has advanced up to Chattogram division. And conditions are favorable for its further advancement, it added.

Meanwhile, the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazaar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three as a deep convection is continuing over the North Bay.
"All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay and the deep sea have been advised to come closer to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice," it added.
Deep convection refers to the thermally driven turbulent mixing that moves air parcels from the lower to the upper atmosphere.

Expect a brief reprieve from the sweltering summer heat, as the weather department has predicted rain or thunder showers in parts of Bangladesh in the next 24 hours.
“Rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at most places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions; at many places over Dhaka and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country" the Bangladesh Meteorology Department said in a weather bulletin on Monday.

Drink plenty of water before stepping out in the scorching heat, as a mild heatwave is sweeping through the districts of Rajshahi, Madaripur, Chandpur and Bagerhat.
The heatwave spell may spread further, the Met office said in its bulletin on Friday.

“Thunder showers with intense lightning flashes and temporary gusty or squally wind are likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions,” Bangladesh Meteorological Department said in its weather bulletin on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a mild heat wave sweeping over the districts of Chandpur, Rajshahi, Jashore and Khulna may continue, as per the weather forecast.
