Design and Build Quality
The Blade V50 has the word ‘Design’ in its official name. While it might sound rather odd, the stylish look and hefty build quality would justify the naming choice. Even at an affordable price, the Blade V50 design comes with a glass front, plastic frame, and a glass back design.
The dimension of the device comes in at 165 mm by 76.1 mm by 8.3 mm with 207 g weight. Beyond the dimensions, the ports and button choices are all standard on the V50 Design. There’s a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a micro SDXC slot, and a power button that doubles as the fingerprint scanner. The only downside to an otherwise iPhone-like design is the lack of a secondary noise-cancellation mic.

Other than that, the Blade V50 Design is everything one would expect from a budget-friendly smartphone. It will be available in three colorways - Beach Green, Sunrise Violet, and Diamond Black.
The Display
The display is one of the strong suits of the V50 Design. It’s a 6.6 inch IPS LCD panel with 1080 by 2408 pixels resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio. ZTE claims that the screen has a 90.5% screen-to-body ratio with the noticeable chin on a water drop-style display design.
Being an FHD+ panel, the pixel density comes in at around 400 PPI. Users might notice a cooler tone on the color profile out of the box. However, it can be easily tweaked from the settings for a more vivid look. As for the display itself, there’s good contrast with sufficient brightness and details making it perfect for media consumption.

The Camera
There’s a triple camera setup on the ZTE Blade V50 Design. The main sensor is a 50 MP f/1.8 wide-angle shooter with PDAF. The additional sensors are a 2 MP f/2.4 macro shooter and a depth sensor with the same configuration.
In effect, the 50 MP does all the work here. Pictures came out great in direct sunlight with good details and dynamic range. ZTE claims to have incorporated some AI features that help with subject profiling and exposure.

However, ZTE uses its proprietary brand name for all sorts of different smartphones as well. Recently, the brand launched the Blade A54 in November 2023. The entry-level smartphone brings a design overhaul with some interesting quirks. Let’s have a detailed look.

Design and Build Quality: Revamped Design with Same Old Plastic Build
At first look, the A54 looks much like the Realme GT 5 with its large end-to-end rectangular camera housing on the back. ZTE had a complete design overhaul on the A54 from the A53 as has been the case with all their models. The rectangular camera housing has a glossy finish whereas the back itself has a matte tone.
The smartphone has a 164 mm by 75.8 mm by 8.5 mm dimension with a plastic build all around. That brings the weight to around 185 g. The A54 keeps the 3.5 mm headphone jack and the dedicated microSD slot in place as is widely seen in this price segment.

The plastic material is durable with drop and scratch resistance. The smartphone is available in three colorways, blue, gray, and lilac.
The Display: IPS LCD Panel with 90 Hz Refresh Rate
The display on the A54 is a 6.6-inch IPS LCD panel with a 90 Hz refresh rate. The water drop style notch and the large chin is a usual feature in any budget-friendly smartphone. There’s nothing really special about the display other than that it can get relatively bright indoors. The color reproduction is satisfactory with a slightly cooler tone. Viewing angles are passable with color shifts at extreme angles. Outdoor legibility isn’t all that great with the panel struggling under direct sunlight.

The Camera: Dual Camera with a Single Usable Lens
The main camera on the A54 is a 13 MP one with AF. The supporting sensor is a 0.08 MP auxiliary sensor which unsurprisingly, does nothing. And if an auxiliary sensor wasn’t a marketing gimmick enough, there’s a camera sensor-like design on the housing which is just printed graphics. Such design choices can be distracting for potential buyers.
The front features a 2 MP selfie shooter which ZTE claims to be “interpolated to 5 MP”. What it means is that post-processing can enhance the image up to 5 MP quality. The results aren’t all that great even in well-lit conditions. It’s disappointing considering even the most stringent entry-level smartphones these days come with at least 8 MP front shooters.
The performance from the main camera was as expected from a budget-friendly smartphone. Pictures taken under direct sunlight had good details but the dynamic range was average at best. Pictures taken at night or indoors had exposure issues and noticeable grain here and there. The warm tone pop was missing in photos captured by the A54. However, this feature is common on the average basic-level smartphones.

The ultra-wide 50MP (f/1.8) camera, using an 18mm lens, captures a wider field of view, while the 64 MP (f/ 3.3) telephoto camera features an 85mm lens. It achieves 5x optical zoom and 20x hybrid zoom.
The front-facing under-display 12MP camera facilitates unobstructed selfies and video calls, complemented by AI beautification and HDR modes.

Banglalink, ZTE bring next-generation 4G service to Bangladesh
Banglalink and ZTE have launched the next-generation 4G service for superior customer experience in Bangladesh with the new 2.3GHz time division duplex (TDD) spectrum in Khulna.
The two parties showed high-speed internet services based on high-performance devices, signalling that the Bangladeshi telecom market is "ready to provide and welcome advanced technologies," said a media statement.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder; Banglalink Chief Executive Officer Erik Aas, Chief Technology and Information Officer Huseyin Turker, ZTE Corporation for VEON Global Managing Director Liao Hui, and ZTE Bangladesh Chief Executive Officer Liu Wencheng were present at the launch event.
Shyam Sunder said: "I am delighted to see how Banglalink is prioritising different regions of the country as part of its nationwide expansion strategy. Such initiatives can play an important role in accelerating Bangladesh's technological progress by fostering digital inclusion."

Banglalink signs agreement with ZTE for network modernization
Banglalink has signed an agreement with ZTE for its network modernization across the country.
Chief Executive Officer of Banglalink Erik Aas and Senior Vice President of ZTE Corporation Zhang Jian Peng (James) signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations at a signing ceremony held in Banglalink office on Tuesday.
Digital communications service provider Banglalink will utilize ZTE’s best-in-class products and technology solutions to enhance its network capacity over the next five years under this agreement, according to a press release issued by Banglalink.

ZTE implements SuperDSS for 5G transition in S Africa
Chinese tech company ZTE has implemented dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) solution for transition to fifth generation network without any disruption in the existing second, third and fourth generation services.
‘ZTE's SuperDSS’ was implemented in South Africa, the first of its kind in the region, the company said in a press release on Sunday.
Leveraging tri-signal radio access technology, the SuperDSS field trial was implemented on 2.1 gigahertz spectrum within 15-megahertz bandwidth, compared with the current static spectrum allocation solution of third and fourth generation’s network.
According to the trial results, the company said the SuperDSS solution allowed the fast introduction of 5G on the 2.1 ghz spectrum, and simultaneously increased the 4G single user average throughput by 39.85 percent, without negatively affecting the existing 3G and 4G major KPIs and user experiences.
For a long time, ZTE has been dedicated to investigating the feasibility of spectrum sharing solutions at various stages of network development. ZTE's SuperDSS is a design-oriented 5G evolution networking solution.
It helps operators build a lean multi-mode and multi-service network that supports 5G safeguarding existing investments.
The DSS among 3G to 5G network helps maximise spectrum utilisation in the network evolution process, with more bandwidth being allocated for LTE and NR as UMTS bandwidth changes on demand apart from traditional voice service.
