Fed Cup Football: Abahani make winning start, but Mohammedan concede defeat in respective opening fixtures
Former champions Dhaka Abahani Limited made a winning start while last time's runners up Dhaka Mohammedan SC conceded defeat in the 10-team Federation Cup Football at two separate venues across the country on Tuesday.
Dhaka Mohammedan SC, which shocked last season's treble winners Bashundhara Kings beating them by 1-0 goal in a BPL match last week, today (Tuesday) made a frustrating journey in Fed Cup Football losing to Rahmatganj MFS by 0-1 goal at the Bashundhara Kings Arena.
This was the 2nd successive defeat for traditional black and whites Mohammedan at the Basundhara Kings Arena (ground) this season after conceding 1-3 defeat against the Kings in the one-match Challenge Cup Football recently.
Rajon Hawlader scored the match winning goal for the old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj in the 83rd minute by an angular rebound shot (1-0).
Rahmatganj started the season brilliantly winning all three matches after winning two consecutive BPL matches..
Although, Rahmatganj winning the day' s match, but Mohammedan SC played a better game and they did everything except scoring goal from half dozen of good opportunities.
Rahmatganj goalkeeper Mamun Alif also performed brilliantly under the bar and foiled a series of Mohammedan good attempts.
Fed Cup Football: Traditional rivals Mohammedan, Abahani start campaign on Tuesday
Mohammedan SC were restricted to 10-men in the 85th minute as their player Shanto hit one of the opponent's booters.
In the day's other match, Dhaka Abahani Ltd, without any foreign players, made a flying start beating their minnow Chittagong Abahani Ltd by 3-0 goals at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla on Tuesday.
Sumon Reza opened the Abahani account in the 17th minute by a good header, off a Kamrul Islam free kick and led the first half by 1-0 goal.
Mohammad Ibrahim doubled the Dhaka Abahani margin in the 76th minute by a placing shot (2-0) while Yeasin Khan sealed the fate of the scoring 3rd goal in the 88th minute (3-0).,
Earlier in the tournament opener on last Tuesday, Holders Bashundhara Kings managed 1-0 goal victory over Brothers Union Club while the other opening day's day's match between Bangladesh Police FC and Fortis FC ended in a goalless draw.
Ten premier division league clubs, split into two groups, are initially participating in the first phase of the Federation Cup Football at three venues in Dhaka, Mymensingh and Cumilla

Group A -Bashundhara Kings, Bangladesh Police FC, Fortis FC, Brothers Union Club and Dhaka Wanderers Club
Group B - Mohammedan SC Ltd, Dhaka Abahani Ltd, Chattagram Abahani Ltd, Rahmatganj MFS and Fakirerpool Youngmen's Club.
Later, top two teams from each of the groups will play in the meet's next round (qualification and elimination) like the Franchisee Cricket League

Challenge Cup Football: Bashundhara Kings clinch season's first title beating Mohammedan SC 3-1
Bashundhara Kings clinched the season's curtain raiser soccer meet, the Bangladesh 2.0 Challenge Cup Football 2024-25, beating Dhaka Mohammedan SC by 3-1 goals at the Basundhara Kings Arena here on Friday.
Adviser for Youth and Sports Ministry Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan was the chief guest in the match and distributed the prizes.

The BPL and Federation Cup champions Kings took control of the match in the 2nd half and won the match comfortably scoring three goals in a row.
Defender Topu Barman leveled the margin for the Kings in the 74th minute by placing a shot from the danger zone, utilizing a corner of Brazilian midfielder Miguel Damasceno (1-1).
Federation Cup champions Bashundhara Kings took the lead from behind in the 81st minute when Foysal Ahmed Fahim scored the 2nd goal by brilliant shot, off a Miguel Damasceno cross (2-1).
The Bhutanese referee gave 18 minutes additional time as the match was stopped for about ten minutes.
Antigua Test: Bangladesh opt to bowl first
Kings captain Miguel Damasceno, who played a vital role in the team's first two goals, finally sealed the fate of the match scoring the 3rd goal in the 7th minute of the additional time (90+9 minute).
The country's most prestigious 10-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football will kick off on November 29 and the 10-team Federation Cup Football will begin on December 3 in a new format.

Fed Cup Football: Mohammedan do the 7UP against Azampur FC
Dhaka Mohammedan SC Ltd earned a comfortable 7-0 goals victory over Azampur Football Club of Uttara in the Bashundhara Group Federation Cup Football 2022-23 at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla on Tuesday.
By virtue of the day's well merited victory, Dhaka Mohammedan SC almost assured their quarterfinal berth with two successive wins.

Tajik striker Fatkhulloev, Brazilian forward Michael Vinicius and Columbian forward Valencia scored one goal each for the old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj, which dominated the first half by 2-0 goals.

BFF U-18s: Rahmatganj edge out Mohammedan in 5-goal thriller
Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society managed a 3-2 victory Dhaka Mohammedan SC in the BFF U-18 Football League at the Govt. Physical Education College ground here on Sunday.After a barren first half, Nabidul (63rd minute), Aminul (71st minute) and Sangram (84th minute) scored one each for the winners while Kagozi scored both the goals (88th and 90+2 minute) for the losers.Meanwhile, BFF U-16 Football Tournament with the participation of eleven youth teams of the Bashundhara Group Bangladesh Championship League, begins on Tuesday (Sept 20).The draw of the tournament was held on Sunday (Sept 18) at the BFF House in Motijheel where BFF vice president Mohiuddin Ahmed Mohi was the chief guestEleven teams, split into two groups, will initially take part in the tournament.

BPL Football: Muktijoddha upset Mohammedan 2-1
Muktijoddha Sangsad upset Dhaka Mohammedan 2-1 in the 20th round match of the 12-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj Thursday.
Burundian forward Sudi Abdullah scored both goals for Muktijoddha in the 26th and 69th minutes. Nigerian midfielder Ugochukwu Obi Moneka pulled one back for the Black and Whites in the 89th.
With the day's victory, Muktijoddha moved to the 10th spot in the league table after securing 15 points from 20 matches. Dhaka Mohammedan remained in the fifth spot with 29 points from 20 matches.
In the day's other match, former champions Sheikh Russel outplayed Bangladesh Police 4-1 at the Bashundhara Sports Complex in Dhaka.
Nigerian forward Ismahil Akinade scored twice for Sheikh Russel in the 45th and 56th minutes, Ghanaian striker Richard Gadze and Ivory Coast player Didier Brossou scored one each in the 49th and 70th minutes.
Amiruddin Sharifi scored a consolation goal for Police in the 51st minute.
Despite the day's win, Sheikh Russel remained in the 8th spot after securing 25 points from 20 matches and Police in sixth place with 29 points from 20 matches.
In the day's other match, Rahmatganj crushed bottom-placed Swadhinata 5-1 at the Muktijoddha Smriti Stadium in Rajshahi. Sunday Chizoba scored a hattrick Rahmatganj.
Ghanaian forward Philip Adijat and local midfielder Sanwar Hossain scored one each in the 28th and 86th minutes.

Serbian Ivan Maric netted the lone goal for Swadhinata in the 56th minute.
Despite the day's victory, Rahmatganj remained rooted at the ninth spot with 18 points from 20 matches. Bottom-placed Swadhinata earned nine points from 20 encounters.
After the day's 20th round matches, Swadhinata (9 points), Uttara Baridhara (14 points) and Muktijoddha (15 points) and Rahmatganj MFS (18 points) are left looking over their shoulders at the relegation trap door.
Earlier, Bashundhara Kings stormed past Saif Sporting 2-0 to lift their third Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football title in a row winning a fierce encounter at Bir Shrestha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj Monday.
Before Monday's match, the Kings earned 49 points in 19 matches. They needed just one win in their remaining three matches against Saif Monday, Dhaka Abahani on July 24 and Sheikh Jamal on July 30 to lift the title for the third time in a row after Dhaka Abahani.
The Sky Blue Brigade clinched the BPL title for a record six times, including three times in a row.
The Kings were crowned champions after securing 51 points from 20 matches with 16 wins, three draws and one loss.
Independence Cup and Federation Cup champions Dhaka Abahani secured 44 points from 20 matches.

BPL Football: Mohammedan beat Sheikh Jamal 3-1 to return to winning ways
Dhaka Mohammedan returned to winning ways in the 12-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football after outplaying three times champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi 3-1 at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla Monday.
Mohammedan suffered a 2-4 defeat against their arch-rivals Dhaka Abahani in their last match at the same venue Wednesday.
In the day's match, local midfielder Sheikh Morsalin put Mohammedan ahead in the 34th minute (1-0).

Sheikh Jamal restored parity in the 38th minute when Mohammedan's Malian striker Souleymane Diabate scored an own goal while trying to block a dangerous shot (1-1).
However, Souleymane compensated for his mistake by scoring two goals in the 43rd and 83rd minutes, both from penalties (3-1).
Despite Monday's win, Mohammedan remained at the sixth spot in the league table, securing 25 points from 17 matches. Sheikh Jamal remained at the fourth spot with 30 points from as many matches.

Defending champions and table topper Bashundhara Kings secured 44 points from 17 matches, nine points ahead of the second-placed Dhaka Abahani.
Six times champions Dhaka Abahani earned 35 points from 16 matches and third-placed Saif DC secured 30 points from 16 matches.

Mohammedan in trouble after another defeat
Mohammedan Sporting Club on Saturday endured their fifth defeat in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League against Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club.
Mohammedan’s chances of qualifying for the Super League stage of the event is slim now.
Mohammedan batted first in Saturday’s match and posted only 143 runs for all wickets in 38.1 over. Mahmudullah Riyad was the best batter for them scoring 48 off 52 balls.

The other batters failed to play well against Enamul Haque Jnr of Rupganj Tigers who bagged five wickets conceding 41 runs in 9.1 overs. It was his maiden five-for in a 20-year-long career.
In reply, Rupganj Tigers chased down the target in just 36.2 overs and won the match by seven wickets. It was their fourth win in eight matches.
In other matches of the day, City Club beat Brothers Union by three wickets while Legends of Rupganj beat Shinepukur Cricket Club by nine runs.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club are at the top of the table with 14 points from seven wins in eight matches while Prime Bank Cricket Club are right behind them with 12 points from six wins in nine matches.
The other teams in the top eight are: Legends of Rupganj (12 points), Abahani Club Limited (10), Gazi Group Cricketers (10), Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club (8), Shinepukur Cricket Club (6), and City Club (6).

BPL Football: Police force Mohammedan to play out goalless draw
Bangladesh Police FC forced traditional giants Dhaka Mohammedan SC to play out a goalless draw in the 12-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football '2021-22 at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla on Monday.
After the day's match, Bangladesh Police FC remain 5th in the league table securing 16 points fron 10 encounters while Mohammedan SC are struggling at the 7th place securing 14 points from 1O matches.
Last two times champions Bashundhara Kings comfortably dominate the league table securing 25 points from 10 matches while two former champions Sheikh Jamal DC and Dhaka Abahani follow the leader with 20 and 19 points respectively, playing 10 matches each.
In the day's other league match, Sheikh Russel KC play 1-1 draw with Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society at their home venue --Bashundhara Sports Complex here.

Nigerian striker Sunday Chizoba, a well known face in the Dhaka league put the old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj ahead in very 4th minute of the match (1-0).
But, their lead was very shortlived as Mohammad Jewel leveled the margin for Sheikh Russel KC in the following minute (1-1).
After the match, Rahmatganj MFS remained at the 8th slot securing nine points from 10 matches while former champions Sheikh Russel KC remained at the 10 slot with seven points, also playing 10 matches.

Mohammedan earns maiden win in low-scoring match
In their second match of the ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, Mohammedan Sporting Club registered their maiden win beating Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity by five wickets on Saturday in Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
In their first match of the season, Mohammedan lost to Shinepukur Cricket Club at the same venu.
On Saturday, Khelaghar batted first and posted a small total of 148 for all wickets in 49 overs. Captain Nadif Chowdhury was their best batter scoring 33 runs while number nine Iftekhar Sajjad scored the second highest of 24 runs.

For Mohammedan, left-arm spinner Nazmul Islam Apu bagged four wickets conceding 18 runs in 10 overs while Mohammad Hafeez sclaped three and Shuvagata Hom took two wickets.
In reply, Mohammedan chased down the target in just 40.1 overs with five wickets in hand. Left-handed batter Soumya Sarkar hit unbeaten 59 off 100 balls while opener Parvez Hossain Emon scored 30.
Mohammad Hossain Ali was the best bowler for Khelaghar taking two wickets conceding only eight runs in 2.5 overs while Masum Khan Tutul also took two wickets conceding 16 runs.
In the other match of the day, Tasamul Haque and Sikandar Raja guided Shinepukur to 280 for six against Brothers Union scoring 68 and 74 respectively while Anisul Islam scored 51 off 51 balls as well.

Leg-spinner Aminul Islam Biplob bagged three wickets for Brothers conceding 60 runs in 10 overs.
In reply, Imtiaz Hossain and Sadikur Rahman scored 159 runs in the opening stand and set a solid foundation for them to win the match. While Imtiaz posted 78, Sadikur scored 84 runs. Riding on their stunning start, Brothers won this match in 49.1 overs with three wickets in hand.

Shinepukur stun Mohammedan in Dhaka League
Shinepukur Cricket Club defeated Mohammedan Sporting Club by 41 runs in their first match of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League on Wednesday in Mirpur.
Shinepukur batted first and posted 250 for seven wickets riding on 70 by Sazzadul Hoque Ripon. Along with him, Alauddin Ahmed Babu also did well with the bat scoring 46 off just 19 runs with four fours and three sixes. Sikandar Raza, the Zimbabwean recruit of Shinepkuru scored 42 as well.
For Mohammedan, Soumya Sarkar bagged three wickets while Salauddin Shakil took two wickets.

In reply, Mohammedan fell short of 41 runs. Parvez Hossain Emon was the best batter for them scoring 54 off 88 balls with three fours and one six. Sohrawordi Shuvo also hit a fifty (51), but their efforts went in vain as the other batters were unable to bat well which was needed most for Mohammedan.
Mohammad Hafeez, the Pakistani star of Mohammedan, failed to do well in the first match as he was sent back by Alauddin Babu only for four.
For Shinepukur, Alauddin, Sikandar and Anisurl Islam scalped two wickets each.
In the other match of the day, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club won by six wickets against Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity in BKSP.
Khelaghar batted first, and with a century by Amite Hasan, they posted 221 for seven. For Sheikh Jamal, Saif Hassan scalped three wickets conceding 30 runs in 10 overs. In reply, Shykat Ali and Saif scored a fifty each while posting a 111-run opening stand. Jahurul Islam scored 47 as well. They chased down the target in 47.4 overs and won the match by six wickets. For Khelaghar, Mohammad Hossain Ali took two wickets.

With these two matches, the first round of the Dhaka League has ended. The matches of the second round will take place on March 18 and 19.
