The body of a college student who went missing Monday after falling from a launch in the Pangasia canal, was fished out Tuesday, police said. The deceased was identified as Niloy, 18, a Class 11 student of Gajaria Government College and son of Dr Md Ali from Hoglakandi village. His body was recovered around 10am from the Pangasia canal, a distributary channel of the Meghna river in the district's Gajaria upazila, by divers from Narayanganj fire service, said Rifat Mallik, station officer of Gajaria fire service. "Niloy tried to remove a hanging live electric wire and was electrocuted. He fell in the river in the impact of the jolt and drowned," the officer said. Police have recovered the bodies of three tourists in the last three days who went missing while visiting the Napittachara stream in Chattogram’s  Mirsharai upazila. On Tuesday police recovered the body of a tourist from a canal in Khayachara union of the upazila. The deceased was identified as Tawfiq Ahmed Tarek, 22, student of Chittagong Collegiate School and College and a resident of Halishahar. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mirsharai Police Station, Kabir Hossain said Tareq's body was recovered 4 km away from Napittachara stream on Tuesday morning. According to police, three friends including two brothers from Chattogram’s Halishahar went to visit Napittachara stream in Mirsharai on June 19 (Sunday). Falling from the stream peak the three went missing in the water. Though Ishtiaqur's body was recovered that night, divers from Chittagong Fire Service couldn’t find the remaining two. 

Police have fished out the body of a 34-year-old man from a river in Sunamganj’s Dirai upazila. Police said that locals spotted the body of the man floating in the Lauajani river in Bhatipara union of the upazila on Thursday and informed them. "The body had several injury marks," he said. The body was later sent to the morgue of Sunamganj Hospital for an autopsy. Forest guards on Tuesday recovered the body of a fisherman in the Sunderbans, more than 12 hours after he was allegedly killed in a tiger attack. Mujibur Gazi was catching crabs in the Payratuli canal around 4pm on Monday when he was attacked by a tiger, according to officials. Authorities have promised a compensation of Tk 3 lakh to the victim’s family. So far, four fishermen have been killed by tigers in the Sundarbans this year and "we have given Tk 6 lakh compensation to the families of the two victims", said Hasan.

The body of an elderly woman was found in her son's house in Parnurulabad village of Naogaon's Manda upazila on Monday night. The deceased was identified as Aklima Begum (60). Police suspect she was killed and have detained her daughter-in-law for questioning. However, Laili Begum, the daughter-in-law of the deceased, said, "My husband is a microbus driver in Dhaka. My mother-in-law used to live with my brother-in-law. I brought her to our house on Thursday." When I returned home on Monday, I found the door locked from the outside. Later with the help of neighbours, I broke open the door only to find the body lying in a pool of blood," she said. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Manda Police Station Shahinur Rahman said the daughter-in-law of the deceased has been detained for questioning in connection with the death.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Monday recovered the dismembered body of the principal of Ashulia Residential School and College, who remained missing for almost a month, from Savar and Ashkona in the city's Dakkhin Khan area. Rab also arrested three persons in connection with the murder of 36-year-old Principal Mintu Chandra Barman. The arrestees were identified as Rabiul Islam and Motaleb—two founding members of the school and Rahim Badsha, nephew of Rabiul. Since then Mintu has been holding the post of principal and used to live at the adjacent building of the school on rent. On July 13, Mintu went missing and did not return home. Dipak Chandra Barman, younger brother of Mintu lodged a general diary at Ashulia Police Station on July 22, said Commanding officer of Rab-4, Lieutenant Rakib Mahmud Khan. During investigation, the elite force detained Rabiul, Motaleb and Badsha and following the confessional statement by them, Rab recovered the body of Mintu. Mintu was killed at the school following an enmity over the ownership of the school and his body has been cut into six pieces. Firefighters recovered the body of a security guard from debris on Tuesday, two days after the deadly blast in a three-storey building near Moghbazar Wireless Gate. Fire service men recovered the body of security guard Harun-ur-Rashid, 65, around 3:30 pm, said deputy director (operation) Debashish Bardhan of Fire Service and Civil Defence. Earlier in the day, police lodged a case against unidentified people for the deaths for negligence.
