Touring Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team suffered 4th consecutive defeat in the five-match Youth ODI series losing to hosts Sri Lanka by one wicket with three balls remaining at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Saturday. Earlier, Bangladesh youth side suffered 42-run defeat against the Lankans in the first match, conceded a narrow one-run defeat in the 2nd match and a three- wicket defeat in the 3rd match to lose series 0-3. Bangladesh will play their 5th and last match on Monday (Oct 25) at the same venue.    In the day’s match, visiting Bangladesh team opened the innings first after winning the toss and scored 224 for 8 in stipulated 20 overs, featuring two half centuries  by captain SM Meherob and Ariful Islam. Read: Youth ODI: Bangladesh lose series opener against Sri Lanka After the dismissal of the top four batters-- opener Mahfijul Islam (34), Iftikher Hossain (11), Prantik Nowrose Nabil (1) and Aich Mollah (37)  —for 109 runs in 27.4  overs, captain SM Meherob pairing with Ariful Islam contributed  81 runs in the 5th wicket stand. Captain SM Meherob scored 52 runs off 71 balls hitting four boundaries while Ariful Islam made 50 runs off 67 balls featuring three fours. Tahjibul Islam quickfired 13-ball 21 runs. Dunith Wellalage grabbed four wickets for 45 runs.  In reply, Sri Lanka reached their target scoring match-winner 225 for 9 with three balls to spare with number six batter Raveen De Silva hammering 88 runs off 100 balls with nine hits to the fence and one over the fence. Mushfiq Hasan claimed three wickets for 39 runs while Ahsan Habib took two for 44 runs.

After Bangladesh’s win in three matches in a row, Afghanistan won two matches to end the series 3-2. However, the hosts won the series. In the last match of the five-match Youth ODI series, Afghanistan won by three wickets with three balls to play at the Sylhet International Stadium. On Sunday, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. They put up 155 all-out in 47.4 overs with Abdullah Al Mamun scoring the highest 37 for Bangladesh. Apart from Al Mamun, Iftikher Hossain, Naimur Rohman and Tahjibul Islam were also among the batsmen who have reached double-digit scores. But none of them was able to carry on and register a big innings. Bangladesh U-19 kept losing wickets in regular intervals, and thus, they were wrapped up only for 155. Read: Youth ODI series: Afghanistan register first win with a Mankad For Afghanistan, Bilal Sami and Nangeyalia Kharote were the most successful bowlers taking three wickets each while Izharulhaq Naveed and Shahidullah Hasani took two wickets each. In reply, Afghanistan’s openers put up only 17 in the first wicket stand. Within 24 runs, both of their openers were departed. But the number three batsman, Ishaq Zazai, posted 52. Riding on his bat, Afghanistan recovered from early damage well. Afghanistan captain Ijaz Ahmad scored 32 to help his side overcome a low-scoring affair. They ended up on 156 for seven in 49.3 overs and won the match by three wickets with three balls to play. For Bangladesh, Ashikur Zaman scalped three wickets while Mushfik Hasan, Naimur Rohman, and Aich Mollah took one wicket each. Both the teams will now face off in a four-day match starting from September 22 at the Sylhet International Stadium.

Bangladesh U-19 team will play touring Afghanistan U-19 side in the 4th match of the five -match Youth ODI Series at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Friday.  The match will kick-off at 9 am (Bangladesh time). Earlier, hosts Bangladesh team took 1-0 lead in the five-match series beating Afghanistan team by 16 runs in the first match and consolidated their claim to win the series beating the visitors by three wickets with 161 balls to spare in the 2nd match last  Sunday. Bangladesh U-19 team will play the remaining Youth ODI match on Sept 19, also at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet. Earlier, the Young Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series beating Afghanistan team by 16 runs in the first match and consolidated their claim to win the series beating the visitors by three wickets with 161 balls to spare in the 2nd match on Sunday Bangladesh team will play  the remaining two Youth ODI matches on Sept 17 and 19, both at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium  and will play one-off Youth Test from Sept 22-25 at the same venue. The 19-year old right hand batsman Aich Mollah came to bat in number four,  hammered a century scoring 108 runs off 130 balls, hitting eight fours and four sixes and was adjudged man of the match. Besides, lower order Abdullah Al Mamun quick fired 20-ball 32 runs featuring one four and three sixes, Mofizul Islam made 93-ball 27 runs with  two boundaries while Tahjibul Islam scored 27-ball 18 runs hitting one four and one six for home team. Faisal Khab Ahmadzai claimed three Bangladesh wickets for 39 runs. Chasing a huge target of 223 runs, touring Afghanistan youth team were bundled out cheaply for 101 runs in 39.4 overs to concede an embrasing defeat . Among the Afghans, Bilal Sayedi (22), Ijaz Ahmed (21), Sulaiman Safi (18) and Zahidullah Salimi (13) were the notable batsmen reaching the double digit. Bangladeshi slow left arm orthodox bowler Naimur Rahman made the major damage in Afghan innings grabbing five wicktets, conceding only 17 runs in his 7.4 over spell with a maiden. Ripon Mondol captured three wickets for 17 runs while Ariful Islam took two for 23 runs.
