2 vessels carrying Rooppur power plant consignments dock at Mongla Port
Two vessels with consignments for the Rooppur Power Plant (NPP) in Pabna have arrived at Mongla port.
The ships-- ‘MV Anka Sun’ and ‘MV Sapodilla’ carrying goods weighing 1400.42 MT and 518.42 MT respectively docked at the port’s jetty no 7 and 8 on Sunday evening, Mongla Port Authority (MPA) Harbor Master Captain Shaheen Majid said.

The unloading of goods from the ships started on Sunday night, he added.
Liberian flag carrier MV Sapodilla left St. Petersburg Port of Russia for Mongla Port and docked at the jetty no 8 of the port on Sunday evening.
Another ship, MV Anka Sun left Russian Novorossiysk Sea Port on December 26 docked at the jetty no-7 of Mongla port at the same time.
The goods will be taken to the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant by road, said Sadhan Kumar Chakraborty, local shipping agent of MV Anka Sun.
Earlier on January 22, Panama flag carrier Liberty Harvest and Russian flag carrier MV Kamilia carrying goods for the nuke plant docked at the port.

Sanctioned Russian ship Sparta III (Ursa Major) was scheduled to dock at Mongla port in the southwestern part of the country at the end of December last year and unload cargo destined for the Rooppur NPP .
But the authorities denied the ship permission to dock at the port after officials got a letter from the US Embassy in Dhaka saying that the ship was on a list of Russian ships sanctioned by the US.
On January 22, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said Bangladesh will not accept those Russian ships which are under sanctions.

Another Russian employee of Rooppur nuke plant dies
Another Russian national who worked in Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project has died in Green City residential area in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna, police said on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Ivanov Anton, 33. He used to work as an employee of Rosem Company, a Russian contractor for the project.

With this, eight foreign employees of the nuke plant have died this year.
He used to live in room number 126 on the 12th floor of building No 2 in Green City residential area, a housing project for foreigners at Natun Hat in Sahapur of the upazila, said Arbinda Sarkar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ishwardi police station.
Ivanov fell unconscious in front of the elevator on the way back to his room after buying food from a restaurant near Green City Sunday night, he said.
Later, the physicians at Rooppur project declared him dead. The body was handed over to police.
“Ivanov might have died of a cardiac arrest,” the OC added.
8 foreign employees of Rooppur nuke plant die this year
With the latest one, six Russian employees, a Belarusian and a Kazak national have died at the Rooppur Nuke Plant site this year.
On April 15, Belarusian man Ivanu Maxim, 52, an employee of contractor firm Ruinwald of the under-construction project, was found dead at the Green City residential area.
Police suspected that Maxim died of cardiac arrest.
On March 26, Kazakhstan national Vladimir Soviet, an employee of contractor firm Nikim at Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, was killed at a house in Ishwardi Rooppur Residential Project Green city.

Three Belarus nationals- Urbanavichus Vitali, 44, Fedarovich Henadz, 42, and Matsveyeu Uladzimir, 43 - were detained from the area for their involvement in the killing. They work at Russian company Rossem.
A court in Pabna sent three Belarus citizens to jail on March 28, a day after Iurii Fedorov, director of the contracting firm, filed the case accusing them of committing the murder, said Raihan Pervez, sub-inspector of Ishwardi Police Station.
From January 28 to February 6, as many as five Russian employees of the nuke plant died, prompting the police to initiate a probe.

Russia keeps Rooppur plant's equipment shipment uninterrupted
Russia is continuing to deliver uninterrupted equipment shipment for the Rooppur nuclear power plant (NPP) in Bangladesh.
A cargo ship with a new batch of equipment for Rooppur NPP on board has left the Russian port of St Petersburg recently, Rosatom said in a statement on Tuesday.
Rosatom, working as a Russian contractor for the Rooppur NPP, said the equipment for units 1 and 2 of Bangladesh’s first-ever nuclear power plant includes 1,300 various items weighing 1,573 tonnes.
The cargo is expected to be delivered at the NPP site in June, according to the statement.
“Despite the international situation, our division being the general contractor for the Rooppur NPP construction fulfills all its obligations, both in terms of construction and supply of equipment,” said Alexey Deriy, director, Rooppur NPP construction project.
Rooppur NPP will be equipped with two Russian VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2,400 MW.
This is an evolutionary generation III+ design which fully complies with all the international safety requirements. The engineering division of Rosatom State Corporation is the general designer and general contractor of the project, said Rosatom.
According to Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, the implementing authority of the project, the first unit of the power plant was scheduled to start operations in 2022 and the second unit in 2024.
But recently the first unit’s operation deadline was rescheduled to 2024 and second unit a year later.

Worker dies falling off reactor at Rooppur Nuke Plant
A 32-year-old worker of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project in Pabna died after falling off the reactor of the plant on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Tushar Ahmed, son of Rafiqul Islam of Ishwardi upazila of the district.

Asaduzzaman Asad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ishwardi Police Station, said Tushar accidently fell on the ground while working in the morning and sustained serious head injuries.
Later, he was rushed to Upazila Health Complex and then to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, said the OC.

Rooppur N-plant: 5 Russians die in 11 days, probe ordered
As many as five Russian employees of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant have died in the past 11 days, prompting the police to initiate a probe.
On January 28, Barcenko Alexei, 48, died during treatment at Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, while Shakiroff Alexei, 40, passed away in his sleep on February 2.
Three days later, Schukin Pavel, a 48-year-old mechanical engineer of sub-contractor firm Trest Rossem, died at the same upazila medical facility after suddenly falling sick.

Tolmasoff Vassiliev, 59, another employee of another sub-contractor firm, died on the stairs of his 14th floor flat at a tower in the Green City housing project for the Russian officials of the power plant the same day.
On Sunday, Vortonikov Alexander, a 45-year-old employee of Nikim Atomstroya firm of the plant, was found dead in his flat at the same residential complex.
Asadussaman, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi police station, said that the autopsy reports of the deceased Russian nationals "did not show anything suspicious".

"One of them used to have drugs, while another had a cardiac ailment. However, we are probing all the deaths," he said.

RPV to be installed in Rooppur nuke plant Sunday
The reactor pressure vessel (RPV) of Power unit-1 of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project, the country’s first nuclear power plant, will be installed on Sunday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the installation work from Gonobhaban through a videoconference, official sources on Saturday.

Russian and Bangladeshi expert teams will install the reactor pressure vessel brought to the project site from Russia in October, 2020.
The nuclear power plant, designed and built by the engineering division of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation of Russia, will consist of two such VVER-1200 reactor power units; their life cycle is expected to be 60 years, with the possible extension of service life of another 20 years.

The Russian design with VVER-1200 reactors, successfully implemented at Novovoronezh NPP-2, was selected for the first NPP in Bangladesh.
The plant will have two power units with an electrical capacity of 1,200 MW each.
