Jubo League gears up for golden jubilee rally Friday
Awami Jubo League will mark its golden jubilee with a grand youth rally in the city on Friday.
Leaders of the youth front of the ruling Awami League said they expect that 10 lakh people will join the rally due to start at 2:30 pm at Suhrawardy Uddayan.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is also the president of Awami League, will address the rally as the chief guest, Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash said.
He said since its inception the youth organisation played a key role in the country’s democratic movement and national development.
He also warned that his organization will resist the BNP-Jamaat and their followers on the streets if they try to create anarchy. People didn't forget the 92-day strike imposed by BNP-Jamaat causing untold miseries to them.

Jubo League has already held a series of meetings to make the youth rally a success.
Up to 75 thousand t-shirts have been made for North and South Jubo League leaders and activists.
Metropolitan North Jubo League has been instructed to wear green and South Jubo League red caps.
On the 50th anniversary of the organization, Jubo League is all set for a massive showdown across the city, he said.

Why not cancel bail on ACC's plea, HC asks Samrat
The High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat asking why his bail should not be cancelled in a money laundering case.
A bench of justices Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Khizir Hayat issued the rule on a plea by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) seeking cancellation of the bail.
The court fixed October 23 as the next date of hearing in the case.
Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan represented the ACC during the hearing.
On Monday, the ACC lawyer filed the plea after taking permission from the High Court bench of justices.

On August 22, Judge Asad Md Asifuzzaman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 granted bail to Samrat in the money laundering case.
The court granted him bail till September 19 considering his poor health condition on a Tk 10,000 bond.
With this, Samrat has secured bail in four cases and there is no legal bar to his release, said his lawyer Ehsanul Haque Samazi.
The judge had also asked him to submit his passport to the court as his bail condition, and he was also asked to take the court's permission to go abroad.
Samrat secured bail in a drugs case on April 11 and in an Arms Act case and the money laundering case on April 10.
The expelled Jubo League leader was under treatment at the prison cell of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital from November 24 last year.
In October 2019, Rab detained Samrat and his associate Enamul Haque Arman from Chauddagram in Cumilla.
Rab raided his Kakrail office the next day. Huge quantities of foreign liquor, pistols, and two hides of kangaroo were seized from his office.

He was later sentenced by a mobile court to six months in prison under the Wildlife Conservation Act.
Abdul Khaleque, deputy assistant director of Rab-1, lodged two complaints against Samrat at Ramna police station under the Arms and the Narcotics acts. Arman was made an accused in the narcotics case.
Shekhar Chandra Mallik, a sub-inspector, submitted a chargesheet against Samrat in the Arms Act case.
The ACC lodged a complaint against him for acquiring assets worth Tk 2.94 crore beyond his known sources of income.
Rashedur Rahman, sub-inspector of CID, registered a case against him at the Ramna police station for laundering Tk 195 crore to Malaysia and Singapore. Last November, the investigating officer in the case submitted a chargesheet in the court.

Samrat gets bail in money laundering case; lawyer claims no legal bar left to his release
A Dhaka court on Monday granted bail to expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat in a money laundering case.

Samrat to stay in jail as SC rejects plea
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has upheld a High Court order cancelling the bail granted to expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat in a graft case.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Justice Md Nuruzzaman, rejected the leave-to-appeal petition of the expelled Jubo League leader on Wednesday.
"So, Samrat has to remain behind bars," said advocate Khurshid Alam, a counsel for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Advocate Munsurul Haque Chowdhury appeared for Samrat.
On May 18, the High Court rejected the bail petition of Samrat in the case. The HC also asked him to surrender before the lower court within seven days,
Upon surrender, a Dhaka court sent him to jail after rejecting his bail petition on May 24.

Order cancelling Samrat's bail upheld by Appellate Division
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday upheld the High Court order that cancelled the bail granted to the expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat in a graft case.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Samrat seeking a
3stay on the High Court order.
The petition will likely be heard on the regular bench of the Appellate Division on May 30.
Senior Advocate Rokonuddin Mahmud stood for the petitioner while Khurshid Alam Khan, a counsel of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) represented the state.
On May 18, the High Court cancelled the bail granted to Samrat in the graft case.
A two-judge bench of justices Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo passed the order in the wake of a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) challenging the bail order of a lower court on May 11.
The court also asked Samrat to surrender before a lower court within seven days, said deputy attorney general AGM Amin Uddin.
Earlier, on May 16, the ACC filed a petition before the High Court seeking cancellation of the bail of Samrat in the graft case.

ACC files petition seeking cancellation of Samrat’s bail
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday filed a petition before the High Court seeking cancellation of the bail of expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat in a graft case, granted by the lower court.
The ACC submitted their plea to the HC bench concerned, said ACC counsel Khurshid Alam Khan.
The petition will likely be heard by the bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo on Tuesday.

A Dhaka court on Thursday again turned down the bail petition of expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Expelled Jubo League leader Samrat gets bail in arms and money laundering cases
Expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat secured bail in an arms case and a money laundering case filed against him at the capital’s Ramna police station on Sunday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Special Tribunal-2 Judge Faysal Atik Bin Kader passed the order in the arms case and Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order in the money laundering case during hearings.
Samrat was produced in court for hearing on a remand appeal in the money laundering case on Sunday from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital.

On March 24, 2021, Mehedi Maksud, inspector of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police and investigation officer in the case appealed for three days in remand to interrogate Samrat in this case.
After that, the remand hearing was deferred several times as court activities were suspended during Covid-19 induced lockdown and Samrat was admitted to hospital for illness.
Advocate Ehsanul Haque Shomaji appeared for the accused while Public Prosecutor Azad Rahman opposed him representing the state during the hearing.
Advocate Ehsanul Haque Shomaji said, “Samrat got bail in two cases but there are two more cases filed against him. He can step out of jail after securing bail in narcotic and graft case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)”
