10 India returnees admitted to CMCH
Ten Bangladeshis, who returned from India after treatment, were admitted to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Friday morning.
CMCH sources said most of them are cancer patients.
Zahirul Islam Bhuiyan, in-charge of CMCH police outpost, said they returned home from India after undergoing treatment. “They’ve been kept in the hospital for initial care,” he said.
Among the returnees, three are from Fatikchhari upazila, three from Chandnaish, three from Karnafuli and one from Patia.
Iqbal Hossain, who went to India with a patient, said, "I went there in February for treatment. I came to Jashore from Kolkata on May 4. Before returning home, we tested negative for Covid-19. Here too the report came negative. The hospital authorities said they would send us home."
He said that they want to go home as soon as possible but no doctor visited them since morning to talk about their release.
Bangladesh shut its border with India after the neighbouring country saw a record upsurge in cases and fatalities. The Indian variant of the coronavirus is suspected to be more contagious.
A number of Bangladeshis returned home through Benapole. All of them were tested for Covid-19 and kept at Jashore Chest Disease Hospital. They were sent to their respective district hospitals at the instruction of the authorities concerned yesterday.

105 Bangladeshis return from India through Benapole
Another batch of 105 Bangladeshis returned home from India through the Benapole checkpost on Friday morning.
They are undergoing a 14-day quarantine at a Benapole hotel at their own expense.
They returned with NOC from the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata.
Meanwhile, 21 Indians have returned to their country from Bangladesh.
Many patients and students went to India before Bangladesh announced a 14-day border closure with the neighbouring country.
A Samad, a passenger from India, said the border closure should have been announced at least a day earlier. “It’d have saved us a lot of trouble at the border,” he said.
Ahsan Habib, officer-in-charge Benapole Immigration, said people with special permits from the high commission are being allowed to cross the border.
In the last four days, 810 Bangladeshis have returned home from India through Benapole, according to officials.

1,090 Bangladeshis return from India through Benapole in 4 days
Some 1,090 Bangladesh nationals, mostly patients and medical tourists, have returned home through Benapole International Check Post in the last four days.
The travellers, who got stuck in India due to coronavirus lockdown, have returned from India under a special management.
According to the Benapole Immigration Police, 235 people returned home on May 14 while 270, 375 and 210 on May 15, 16, 17 respectively.
The on-duty medical team of Benapole Immigration Police gave them clearance certificates after medical check-up.
As per a government order issued on May 13, those who have no coronavirus symptom need not to be kept under institutional quarantine.
Inspector Md Mohsin Uddin at the immigration police said 1,090 Bangladeshis have returned home from India in the last four days.
They have been given clearance to go back home after their medical test as they had no corona symptom.

141 Bangladeshis return from India through Benapole in 3 days
One hundred forty one Bangladeshi nationals, who got stuck in West Bengal in India, returned home through Benapole check-post under special arrangement in the last three days.
Dr Habibur Rahman, health officer of Benapole check-post, said the Bangladeshi nationals came through Benapole check-post on Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning.
Of them, 81 people came to the country on Friday, 35 on Saturday and 25 on Sunday morning.
Besides, five people who returned home on Saturday were sent to isolation unit in Sharsha Upazila Health Complex as their body temperature was found high.
The Bangladeshi nationals remained stranded in Kolkata since March 26 following the suspension of the suspension of travelers movement though landports.
