DU student allegedly harasses Brac University student on campus
A Dhaka University student and activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League allegedly slapped and harassed a girl, who is a law student of Brac University, on the campus during the early hours on Tuesday.
But the DU student contradicted and accused the girl of assaulting him.
The incident took place at 3:30 am in front of Raju Memorial Sculpture on the DU campus.
The girl was on the campus with two of her male friends when the incident took place.

Najmul Islam, a residential student of Masterda Surja Sen Hall and postgraduate student of Institute of Social Welfare and Research of Dhaka University, said the girl was filming floating people who were asleep on footpath.
Najmul said that he stopped along with a friend as he was returning on a bike to the university dormitory when he saw the girl and her friends.
He said he asked why the girl and her friends were filming the floating people without their permission.
An altercation broke out, prompting the girl to slap Najmul, he said. Najmul also retaliated and slapped the girl back.
In a video posted online it was seen that the girl using abusive words and slapping the boy.
According to an audio recorded by a witness some details have come out.
"After my birthday celebration, I was standing in front of the sculpture with my friends and taking pictures. At that time two boys stopped their bike and started questioning us using bad words against me. They teased me and slapped me when I protested," the girl was heard in the audio.
Najmul told UNB that the girl also used abusive words when he questioned their presence on the campus during early hours on Tuesday.
He said they were filming the people who were asleep on the footpaths and attires of the floating people were not in order.

"When I asked why the girl was taking pictures of the people without their consent, she said her father has the ability to buy the entire DU campus multiple times," he added.
"When I took my mobile phone to record her abusive words, she again insulted me,” he said.
"At one point she slapped me, and I slapped her in return,” he said.
The girl filed a complaint with the Proctor’s office on Tuesday.
DU Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani told UNB that they were investigating the incident.
“The complainant girl is not our student, so we have advised her take legal steps,” he said.

Sexual abuse: DU student suspended
A student of Dhaka University has been suspended for sexually abusing her female classmate.
The decision was taken at a disciplinary committee meeting held at Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate building on Thursday. DU VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman presided over the meeting.

"Kabir Ahmed Kaushik, a post graduate student of Communication Disorder department, has been suspended as allegation of sexual abuse against him was found true initially," said a press release.
On September 29 last year, a female student of the same department submitted a written complaint against Kabir Ahmed Kaushik to the proctor of the university for abusing her sexually.

DU student taken into custody on molestation charge
Raidul Khan Kowshik, a third-year student of the University of Dhaka, has been taken into police custody for molesting a girl at University’s TSC. Police however are yet to find his involvement in the incident.
Asked about the incident, officer-in-charge of Shahabag Police Station told UNB that Raidul was brought to custody under allegations.
"We primarily did not find his involvement in the incident," he added.
A female student of Dhaka University (DU) filed a case against five to six unidentified students for molesting her in the Teacher-Student Center (TSC).

"A female student filed a complaint to the proctor office of the university and based on the complaint, the proctor office handed over a student named Raidul Khan Kaushik to the police station for interrogation," said DU proctor AKM Golam Rabbani.
According to the complaint, the victim student was talking to youth at TSC around 7pm on Monday when five to five unidentified youths talked to them and at one stage assaulted both of them.
Later, a case was filed against 4/5 unidentified people at Shahbagh Police Station.
Based on the complaint, after seeing the CCTV footage of TSC, the proctor's office initially got the involvement of a second-year student of the university named Abdullah Al Maruf.
Later, when he went to catch the student at Madhur canteen, Maruf led the proctor to another student named Raidul Khan Kaushik. After finding Kaushik, the proctor's office handed him over to Shahbagh police station for preliminary interrogation.

Rail protest: Roni prevented from entering Kamalapur Station
Kamalapur railway police have again prevented Mohiuddin Roni from entering the station by blocking the main gate of the station.
Contacted, Roni said, "Railway police blocked the main gate of Kamalapur to restrict me from entering the station."
"I have decided to continue the programme at front yard of the main gate," he added.
Earlier in the week, Kamalapur railway police allegedly abused them and injured them when Mohiuddin Roni and his fellow protesters tried to enter the station to take position demanding six points.
Around 7 pm yesterday, Mohiuddin Roni and his friends took sitting programme at Shahabag demanding the justice of violation his citizen right but latet around 9.30 pm, he postponed the sitting programme saying that he will continue it at Kamalapur railway Station.

Another DU student 'assaulted by BCL leader'
Another student of Dhaka University's Jagannath Hall has been allegedly assaulted by a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader.
Utshab Roy, a student of Pali and Buddhist studies for the 2017-18 academic session, was reportedly beaten up by Satyajit Debnath, the former BCL science and technology secretary of Jagannath Hall, Wednesday.
Utshab submitted a written complaint, accusing 25 students involved in the attack, to the hall provost and the proctor.
The incident took place in room 7012 of the Santosh Chandra Bhattacharya Building.
Utshab was taken to Dhaka University Medical Centre for primary treatment after the attack.
"After having my lunch, I went to my room. Then one of my seniors knocked on the door and told me to come outside. And then they started beating me," Utshab said.
"Satyajit hit me on the head. He kicked me out of the hall and told me that if I return, he would kill me. I have not been able to enter the hall yet and I am worried about my life."
However, Satyajit denied the allegations against him, while admitting that Utshab did come under attack.

"I did not do this. The students of the hall beat him up and threw him out of the hall as there were allegations of committing crimes and taking drugs against him," he said.
Despite several attempts, Jagannath Hall Provost Dr Mihir Lal Saha could not be reached for comments over the phone till the filing of this report.
DU Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani told UNB, "I have received a written complaint from the victim and informed hall administration about it. Hall administration will take measures in this connection."

DU student jumps off 16-story building, dies
A 22-year-old BBA second-year student of Dhaka University (DU) killed herself by jumping off the roof of the 16-story building of her home in the capital's Mohammadpur Wednesday, police said.
Zaina Habib, a student of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems, would live in the Japan Garden City of Adabor.
Mujib Ahmed Patwari, assistant commissioner of Mohammadpur Zone Police, said after examining closed-circuit television footage of the roof they found that Zaina had committed suicide.
Zaina went to the top of their apartment building and locked its door around 5pm when it was raining.
At one point, she jumped off the roof, leaving a suicide note, and died on the spot, Mujib said. "Police handed over the body to Zaina's family instead of taking it away for a postmortem as they did not make any complaint about the death."

DU student assaulted ‘by BCL man’ for not offering salam
A student of Dhaka University was assaulted allegedly by an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Masterda Surja Sen Hall for not greeting him by saying salam.
Sajjadul Haque Sayedee, a student of Department of Anthropology of 2018-19 academic session and a resident student of Surya Sen Hall, lodged a written complaint against Mankiur Rahman, a student of Political Science department and a follower of Chhatra League general secretary of the hall unit Siam Rahman, with the hall administration regarding the physical assault.

"On Tuesday night, I was attending an online class at that time when some BCL activists stepped into my room. As I was busy in my class I couldn't greet them by saying salam. Being angered, BCL activist Manikur Rahman slapped me and kicked me", he wrote in his letter.
“Manikur scolded me and my roommates for not attending their programme and threatened me for not greeting them. When I stood up after disconnecting the Zoom link, he slapped me and kicked me in the chest and threw me away," he added.
Manikur did not receive the phone call when the correspondent tried to contact him for comment.

Admitting the incident of beating, Chhatra League general secretary of the hall unit Siam Rahman said ,"The incident that happened last night is totally unexpected. I will settle the issue with them this afternoon."
Surya Sen hall provost prof. Mokbul Hossen Vuiyan said, " I have received the complaint letter and formed a three-member probe committee to investigate the incident within three working days. Action will be taken if the allegation is proved true."

Missing DU student found in front of DB office
A student of Dhaka University, who was picked up from his mess in Azimpur Saturday, was found in front of Detective Branch (DB) office in Dhaka Sunday.
Ashikur Rahman, a fourth-year student of international relations department, is in good condition now, said his father Siraj Islam.
However, Ashikur's roommate Muhsin said, "Some members of Hizb ut-Tahrir were picked up by a group of people identifying themselves as the members of DB from the room next to us yesterday night. They also took away Ashikur with them at that time."

At 3pm today, students of international relations department formed a human chain at the foot of Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture, demanding to know about Ashikur's his whereabouts and for his immediate release.

When contacted, DB Deputy Commissioner for Lalbagh Razib Razib Al Masud said they did not detain Ashikur. "We did not make any such raid. He was not in our custody."

DU student's Unmukto Library gets books from Nagad
Nagad has given books to Unmukto Library, an initiative by Dhaka University (DU) student Tanbir Hasan Shaikat.
The library is located near Suhrawardy Udyan's main entrance, next to Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture in DU.

It is open to the public and was set up by cleaning up trash.
Nagad gave books, including "Unfinished Autobiography," "Prison Diary," "Amar Dekha Nayachin," and "Digital Revolution Drives Finclusion" to the library.

Nagad Chief Public Affairs Officer Solaiman Shukhon and Public Communications Head Muhammad Zahidul Islam handed over the books on behalf of its managing director Tanvir A Mishuk at an event organised at the main entrance of Suhrawardy Udyan.
Tanvir A Mishuk said, "We appreciate Tanbir Hasan Shaikat's initiative. Nagad will always support such endeavours."

SB man suspended for beating up DU student-journalist at campus
A member of the police's Special Branch (SB) has been suspended for beating up a journalist, who is also a student of Dhaka University (DU).
Harunur Rashid, additional deputy commissioner (Ramna zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said this to the Dhaka University Journalists Association (DUJA) members at Shahbagh Police Station Thursday.
"The Special Branch has confirmed the suspension of the Abdur Rab, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) at SB. The incident will now be investigated and the next move will be made after that," he added.
The assaulted Raihan Ahmed, a student of public administration of DU, is the university correspondent of Daily Sun and a resident of Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall.

"I was returning to my dormitory after attending a press conference of Dhaka University Alumni Association at 5.30pm. While I was crossing the road in front of the Central Shaheed Minar, Abdur Rab almost hit me from behind with his bike," he said.
“As I asked for an explanation, he started beating me, saying that he is a policeman,” said Raihan.
"However, I managed to escape with his identity card and keys. I gave his identity card and keys to the nearby police box of Dhaka Medical College Hospital."
