Global Covid-19 cases hit 68.8 million
A total of 68.8 million people have been infected with coronavirus globally and over 1.5 million of them died, according to data compiled by the Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
The global caseload stood at 68,848,383 with 1,568,734 fatalities on Thursday.
The United States recorded 15,384,264 cases as of Thursday morning with 289,257 deaths.
The total number of Covid-19 cases in the US topped 15 million on Tuesday.
With an additional 49 deaths reported on Wednesday, the death toll from the coronavirus in Washington state has surpassed 3,000, according to state health officials, reports AP.
Since the pandemic began, 3,016 people in Washington have died from the virus that causes COVID-19, according to the state Department of Health. The total number of confirmed cases in the state is now nearing 190,000, officials said.
India's Covid-19 tally reached 9,735,850 on Thursday while the death toll mounted to 141,360 according to the JHU data.
Brazil has recorded the world's second-highest COVID-19 death toll, after the United States, and the third-largest caseload, after the United States and India.
The country registered on Thursday 53,453 new cases, raising the nationwide tally to 6,728,452, the Health Ministry said.
Meanwhile, 836 deaths were recorded over the past 24 hours, taking the national count to 178,995.
Infections have been reported in more than 191 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
