Case filed over death of N’ganj councillor’s wife
A case has been filed in connection with the death of a woman who was the first wife of a councillor of Narayanganj City Corporation on Monday.Jharna Haidar, mother of the deceased Sadia Islam, filed the case with Sadar Model Police Station on Monday, said Chai Lau Marma, additional superintendent of Narayanganj Police.Earlier on Sunday, Sadia, 30, first wife of councillor Shahajalal Badal, apparently committed suicide by jumping off the roof of a building at Chashara Balur Math in Narayanganj.Meanwhile, Detective Branch of police on Sunday detained Badal, who is the nephew of the notorious Nur Hossain, himself a former councillor but now a death row convict.
Badal was released after interrogation.“Police are investigating the incident and legal steps will be taken if any complaint is filed,” said ASP Chai Lau.The autopsy of Sadia was conducted at Narayanganj General hospital on Monday. Dr Sheikh Farhad, resident medical officer of the hospital and Mafiz Uddin, conducted her autopsy.The reason behind her death will be known after getting a postmortem report.On February 8, 2022, Sadia in a press briefing at her residence alleged that Councillor Badal had 'abandoned' her and married another woman without taking her permission, as prescribed in Islamic law.
According to the allegation of Sadia, she married Badal in 2007 and the couple were blessed with a child through IVF (In vitro fertilization).
Councillor Badal denies the allegations against him.

N’ganj fire victim dies at DMCH
One of the two victims who suffered serious burn injury in a fire at their house in Fatullah of Narayanganj on Sunday died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) early Monday.
Sukhi Begum, 20, breathed her last at around 6 am at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery while undergoing treatment there.
Md Bacchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, confirmed the matter to UNB.
Sukhi Begum’s husband Al Amin, 25, is still receiving treatment.

The fire broke out after a blast in the kitchen around 1:30 pm, leaving the couple injured, according to Fire Service sources.
Fakhr Uddin, deputy assistant director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense, said the fire might have broken out due to accumulated gas as the windows of the room were found closed during the incident.
The windowpanes and doors of the house were also blown away, and the window panes of four rooms adjacent to the house were also broken.
Some people standing outside of the house were also slightly injured during the explosion and subsequent fire.
On information, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.

4 burnt in N’ganj ‘gas leak’ fire
Four people sustained burn injuries as a fire broke out in a house apparently due to leakage in the gas pipeline at Behakoir in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj district on Tuesday.
The injured were identified as Sajeeb, 27, Mamun Mia, 32, Rubel, 30 and Zakaria, 34.
Mahbub Alam, officer-in-charge of Sonargaon Police Station, said the fire broke out in the house of one Baker when one of the victims tried lit cigarette at the kitchen of the house, leaving them injured.
First they were taken to Sonargaon Upazila Health Complex and then shifted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
The fire might have originated from the gas accumulated in the kitchen of the house, said police.

Worker dies in N’ganj gas cylinder blast
A worker died and two others sustained burn injuries as a gas cylinder exploded at a dockyard in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Nuruzzaman, a resident of Dohar of Dhaka and the injured were Shahidul and Yunus Mia.
The gas cylinder exploded at Shanghai-8 ship at King Fisher Dockyard in Darikandi area around 10 am, leaving three workers of a ship severely injured, said Rupganj Police Station Sub-Assistant Inspector Shahidul Islam Khan.

The injured were rushed to US Bangla Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared Nuruzzaman dead, he added.
The body has been sent to Sadar General Hospital morgue.

Couple's decomposed bodies recovered from flat in N’ganj
Police recovered the half-decomposed bodies of a man and his wife from a multi-storey building in Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Rabiul, son of Abu Taleb of Nilphamari district and Lucky Das, daughter of Anil Das of Bandarban district. However, on June 14, Lucky Das converted to Islam and changed her name to Ayesha Siddiqa.
Shahadat Hossain, the owner of the house, said the couple rented his flat on August 1. However, he did not ask them anything about which district they lived in or what their profession is.
As a bad smell started spreading around from their flat, other tenants of the house told me about it and later I informed the police, the house owner added.

Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Siddhirganj Police Station said they recovered the bodies from a flat of the five-storey building after being informed by the owner of the house Saturday at noon.
They might have committed suicide by drinking pesticides together, added the OC.
The bodies were sent to Narayanganj Sadar General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
However, the exact cause of death can be ascertained only after getting the autopsy report, he said.

Jubo Dal activist killed in N’ganj clash
An activist of Jubo Dal, BNP's youth wing, was killed and 50 people were injured in a clash between police and the opposition party members in Narayanganj's No 2 rail gate area Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Shaon, 21.
Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said the BNP activists took out a procession around 10.45am, marking the founding anniversary of the party.

When the procession reached the No-2 rail gate area around 11.30am, police stopped them, triggering a chase and counter chase.
At one stage, the protesters attacked the cops, prompting the law enforcers to fire rubber bullets.
The whole Bangabandhu road from No-2 rail gate point turned into a battlefield during the clash that left 50 people injured.
Shaon received bullet injuries during the clash. He was taken to Narayanganj General Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Microbus torched after schoolboy hurt in N’ganj road accident
Local people set a microbus on fire as a schoolboy was injured when the microbus hit an auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj district on Monday.
Quoting local people, Azizul Haque, officer-in-charge of Araihazar Police Station, said the microbus carrying some policemen hit the auto-rickshaw carrying some school students at Purinda area of the upazila, leaving a schoolboy injured.
One policeman was also injured during the accident.

When the policeman tried to blame the auto-rickshaw driver, the students of Purinda KM High School students turned furious and set the microbus on fire.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
The injured schoolboy was given first aid.

Vehicular movement on the busy road remained suspended for some time after the accident.

Mother, son hacked dead in N’ganj
A 40-year-old woman and her son were hacked to death in Araihajar upazila of Narayanganj on Sunday, police said.
The deceased were identified as Razia Sultana and her son Talha.
On information, police recovered the bodies from their house at Ujan Gobindi village of the upazila in the morning where Razia used to live with her son after her husband’s death.

Azizul Haque Hawladar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Araihajar police station, said the duo might have been killed by someone they knew on Saturday night.
The bodies were sent to Sadar General Hospital morgue for post-mortem, he added.
The motive behind the killing will be known after an investigation, said the OC.

6 sentenced to death for double murder in N’ganj
A Narayanganj tribunal on Monday sentenced six people to death for killing a couple in 2009.
The condemned convicts are -Ariful Islam, 30, Jamal Hossain, 20, Sumon, 31, Md Sumon, Lokman and Shafique.
Of them, Md Sumon, Lokman and Shafique were tried in absentia.

According to the prosecution, Khadiza Begum, wife of Abdur Rahman of Ganganagar village in Rupganj upazila ,was found dead in a water body on August 11, 2009.
During investigation police came to know that Rahman had hired the six men at Tk 10,000 to kill his wife over family feud.
They took Khadiza to an abandoned place and violated her in turns. Later, they killed her and dumped the body in a water body.
The convicts killed Abdur Rahman too as he refused to give them the money and dumped the body there.

Rupganj thana police registered a murder case after getting a complaint from Khadiza’s father.
After examining the records and 12 witnesses, Narayanganj Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Nazmul Haque handed down the punishment.

Returning from N’ganj, cop dies with fever in Sylhet
A police constable, who returned from Narayanganj, died at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital with fever on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Emon, of Khalilpur village in Moulvibazar Sadar upazila and a constable of Narayanganj Industrial Police.
Himangshu Lal Roy, deputy director of the hospital, sai he returned home from Narayanganj after he fell sick.
As his condition deteriorated, he was taken to the hospital on April 27 where he died around 8:30pm.
Though he had corona symptoms he was found negative for the virus in a test, said the official.
Meanwhile, a total 115 people tested coronavirus positive in the division on Friday.
Among them, 16 people’s samples tested positive in the lab of Sylhet Hospital and IEDCR confirmed 99 cases.
With the new cases, total patients rose to 226 in the division.
Among them, there died and two made recovery.
