ICC World Cup Events: Bangladesh to host 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup
The highest governing body of cricket has noticed the growth that Bangladesh's women's team has shown over the past few years. That is why the ICC has decided to give the opportunity to Bangladesh to host the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, one of the major ICC World Cup events in the upcoming FTP. The International Cricket Council confirmed the news in a press release after the final day of their latest annual conference.
Host nations for the forthcoming FTP’s ICC Women’s National Team events
The ICC’s next FTP, which will last till 2027, will include four major events for the women’s national cricket team. The first major event will take place in Bangladesh in the year 2024. The BCB will organize the ninth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup in the September-October window in 2024.
Bangladesh have the experience of staging big ICC World Cup events, so the previous experience will help them to make the upcoming competition even better. The Bangladesh Cricket Board previously staged the fourth edition of the Women’s Twenty20 World Cup in 2014, and the winner of that event was Australia.

Apart from Bangladesh, India will host the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup and Sri Lanka will host the Women's Champions Trophy's first edition in 2027 if they qualify for the competition. Besides, England has obtained the hosting rights for the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup.
One of the significant things about the ICC’s decision to pick the hosting nations for the upcoming women’s events in the next FTP cycle is that three of the four tournaments will take place in Asia. The international cricket council has realized that women’s cricket is gaining popularity in the sub-continent. They want to cash in on this growing interest among the cricket fans by staging as many big events as possible in the region.
Who will host the WTC finals in the years 2023 and 2025?
The newly formed ICC World Test Championship has generated a strong interest among the cricket fans. The final of the inaugural edition of the Test Championship was initially planned to be held at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground in London. However, the venue of the championship match was later moved to the Rose Bowl in Southampton because of some COVID-19 complications. New Zealand won the inaugural edition by beating India in the final by 8 wickets.

The International Cricket Council has decided to organize the next two editions of the World Test Championship at Lord’s. The decision was approved at the ICC’s AGM. Both the 2023 and 2025 Test final matches are scheduled in the month of June. The South African team currently leads the points table with 71.43 percent in the 2021–2023 Test championship.
Bottom Line
Women's cricket in Bangladesh first gained international attention when the tigress won the 2018 Asia Cup in Malaysia by defeating India by three wickets in the final, breaking India's dominance in the competition. Since then, the Bangladesh women's team has continued to improve and recently participated in their first-ever 50-over World Cup competition.
Getting the hosting rights for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup is a recognition by the ICC that Bangladesh’s women’s national team is progressing on the international stage. Besides, women’s cricket has been getting more interest from Bangladeshi fans in recent years. Bangladesh will have the chance to host more ICC World Cup events in the future if the BCB makes the most of this opportunity and organizes the competition professionally.

Will have a very good team in 2023 World Cup: Shakib
Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan said Bangladesh will have a strong team in the next ICC World Cup 2023.
“I don’t think we need many things (to do well in the next WC). I believe we already have what we need. We’ve good players in our current team capable of doing well in the World Cup. But what we need is to care for them well. We need hard preparation. I believe we’ll have a good team in the next World Cup in India,” he said in an Instagram live session with his fans.
Shakib is currently living in the USA with his family.
He has been serving a two-year ban, with one year is suspended, for failing to report corrupt approaches made to him several times. The all-rounder is expected to return to the action after October this year.
In the last World Cup, in England, Shakib was Bangladesh’s light bearer hitting 606 runs and scalping 12 wickets. It was the best all-rounding performance in the World Cup. Despite his tremendous show, Bangladesh failed to do something memorable in the World Cup due to the off-form of the others.
“The next World Cup is in India. The condition of India is like what we get in our country. But the truth is the condition matters little in ICC events. ICC emphasise on batting surfaces as we have seen the last two World Cups in Australia and England,” Shakib added.
Currently, all cricketing activities are on hold in Bangladesh and other parts of the world due to the spread of coronavirus. Bangladesh Cricket Board on Wednesday postponed the Dhaka Premier League indefinitely.
