4 houses, 1 shop gutted in Kurigram fire
Four houses and a shop were gutted in a fire at Nayarhat Ververi area in Sadar upazila of Kurigram on Sunday morning.
A van with 5 maunds of cotton was burnt to ashes in the fire that broke at the house of Khairul Islam of Nayarhat area at 4am.

Locals said the fire spread to some neighboring houses immediately.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Later, locals entered a house and rescued eight sheep from the house. But the van, 5 maunds of cotton and some clothes in the shops were burnt to ashes.
Fire service personnel from Kurigram Sadar arrived and brought the fire under control.

20 shops gutted in Sherpur market fire
Fifteen shops were gutted in a fire which broke out at Kushumhati market of Sherpur Sadar upazila early Sunday.
Jabed Hossain Tareq, deputy assistant director of Sherpur Fire Service, said the fire broke out at the market around 6am and spread soon.

On information, firemen rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after two hours of frantic effort.
Evidence of the fire originating from an electrical short circuit was found in primary investigation, said the official.

Meanwhile, the affected shop owners claimed that the estimated loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk 1 crore.
Necessary action will be taken if the traders file a complaint in this regard, Jabed Hossain added.

Fire destroys 30 shops in Sitakunda kitchen market
A fire swept through a kitchen market on Saturday morning gutting 30 shops in Vatiari union of Sitakunda upazila in Chattogram.
The locals called Kumira Fire Service and Naval Fire Service immediately after the fire broke out around 7am at Uttar Bazar area.

Station Officer of Kumira Fire service said a total of 30 small and big shops were destroyed before the blaze was brought under control.
“The actual amount of losses or the origin of the fire couldn’t be known immediately. An investigation is underway,” he said.
However, the local traders claimed they incurred losses of around Tk 50 lakh.

Mentally retarded youth charred to death in Cumilla
A mentally challenged youth living in chains was charred to death in a fire that broke out at his house in Paschim Kharera village of Burichang upazila on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Alauddin, 18, a Class XII student of Khasru Degree Government College and son of Abdul Matin of the village.

On Tuesday night, a fire broke out at the house. Alauddin was inside the house at that time and could not escape as he had been chained, said Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Burichang police station.
"Hearing his screams, Alauddin’s mother tried to save her son but failed. The fire also gutted two more adjoining houses," he said.

Fire guts valuables at Gazipur RMG factory
A fire broke out at a garment factory in Bhogra Vasan road area of Gazipur city early Monday.
Abdul Hamid Mia, Deputy Assistant Director of Gazipur Fire Service, said the blaze started around 6am in the dyeing and knitting section of Alema Textile Limited.

On information, four firefighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze in a couple of hours.
Machineries and other valuables inside the one-storey building were gutted in the fire before the fire was brought under control, officials said.

70 houses, school gutted in Bandarban fire
At least 70 houses, a primary school and three shops were gutted in a fire which broke out at Talukdarpara in Roangchhari upazila of Bandarban district early Tuesday.
Chahai Marma, chairman of Roangchhari Upazila, said the fire originated from an oven early this morning and spread soon.

However, the firefighting units failed to reach the area for lack of communication facilities and the fire was doused with the help of local people.
On information, the army provided some food and financial assistance to the victims who have lost their dwellings.
The estimated loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk 5 crore, said Chahai Marma.

Jute mill gutted in Jahsore fire
A fore broke out at Afil Jute Weaving Mills Limited in Sharsha upazila on Wednesday night.
Touhidur Rahman, in-charge of Benapole Civil Defence and Fire Service, said the fire was sparked by an electric short circuit at night and spread soon.
On information, a firefighting unit went to the spot and extinguished the blaze after one and a half hours of frantic effort.
The estimated loss caused by the fire was about Tk 1.3 crore, said Managing Director of Afil Jute Weaving Mills Limited Kabiruzzaman.
