Dr Harun-or-Rashid assumes 'Bangabandhu Chair' at National University
Prof Dr Harun-ur-Rashid, former vice-chancellor of National University, has been appointed as 'Bangabandhu Chair' of National University (NU).
The appointment decision was made at the 252nd syndicate meeting of the university on Saturday, said a press release.
The 'Bangabandhu Chair' position has been introduced for the first time in the National University, it said.

Dr Rashid completed his BA (Hons) and MA in Political Science Department from Dhaka University and obtained PhD degree from London University in 1983 with Commonwealth Scholarship.
He did post-doctoral research at the University of London, Uppsala University in Sweden and Ryukoku University in Japan.
He started teaching as a lecturer in the Political Science Department of Chittagong University in 1979.
Later he joined the Political Science Department of Dhaka University.

Dr. Rashid won the 'Bangla Academy Literary Award-2021' for his research on Bangabandhu. In 2016, he was awarded the Best Book Gold Medal by Bangladesh University Grants Commission for Best Publications.
Dr. Rashid has written 19 original research books so far. His 100 research articles have been published in journals at home and abroad.
He recently served as 'Bangabandhu Professorial Fellow' at the Bangladesh Chair of the South Asian Institute at Heidelberg University, Germany.

National University expels two students over CU female student's assault
National University has expelled two students of Hathazari Government College in connection with the sexual harassment of a female student at Chittagong University.
The decision was taken at a syndicate meeting held on Monday night, chaired by National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Mashiur Rahman.
“The expulsion is temporary. The students have been asked to show reason why it should not be made permanent. They have been asked to respond to the notice within 10 days,” said Md Ataur Rahman, director of the university's public relations office.
A decision to form a committee to investigate the incident has also been taken at the meeting, he added.

Hathazari Government College is affiliated with National University.
On July 17, a female student was physically assaulted by five youths while she was going to Botanical Garden from Pritilata Hall of the Chittagong University campus with her friend around 10pm.
The miscreants had also captured the incident on video and threatened to make it viral. Later, they fled with the mobile phones and wallets of the two students.
A five-member body was initially formed to investigate the assault in the wake of the female student's written complaint to the proctor.
A case was also filed under the Women and Children Repression Act against them.
Police later arrested five Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists for their involvement in the incident.

7 DU colleges & 3 universities to hold exams
All pre-scheduled examinations of National University, Islamic Arabic University, Open University and seven colleges affiliated to Dhaka University will be held, adhering to the mandatory Covid-safety protocols, officials have said.
"All the examinations will be held in compliance with health-safety rules," MA Khair, public relations officer of the Education Ministry, told UNB.

On January 21, National University announced the suspension of all its examinations "till further notice" in view of a surge in Covid-19 cases.
Meanwhile, the government on Wednesday extended the closure of secondary and higher secondary-level educational institutions by two weeks until February 20. The decision was taken in view of the worsening Covid-19 situation in the country.

National University suspends all exams
All examinations of National University have been suspended till further notice in view of surging Covid-19 pandemic.
This was announced in a press release issued by the university authority on Friday.
The schedule of these exams will be informed when the situation gets normal, said the release.

NU undergrad admission window opens Wednesday
The National University (NU) will open the application window for its 2020-21 undergraduate programmes Wednesday, and the process will end on Aug. 14 midnight.
The students will be required to fill the admission forms on www.nu.ac.bd/admissions. Also, the admission seekers will have to pay application fees by Aug. 16 through mobile banking services.

Online classes for first-year students will start on September 15.
The NU officials have been asked to complete the entire process online while complying with health rules.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the admission committee on July 12, with Vice-Chancellor Dr Md Mashiur Rahman in the chair, the university said in a notification Sunday.

Dr Mashiur appointed National University VC
Dhaka University sociology professor Dr Mashiur Rahman has been appointed National University (NU) vice-chancellor for four years.
Dr Mashiur, who previously served as NU pro-vice-chancellor, will replace Dr Harun-or-Rashid who completed his second term on March 5.
